I can only imagine the precendent that has been set by throwing boatloads of cash at Kelsay. Now I am sure whitner and Poz - both are much much much better than Kelsay - are going to be expecting a lot of coin.

Marcell Dareus and Nick Fairley playing right now
High Mark replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I caught most of the Clemson SC game tonight, first time I saw the Dewuan Bowers live - what a monster. He looks like Peppers out there. He is a force vrs the run and gets good pressure. I pulled up some Youtube video of him vrs GT this year where he was in a 2 point stance, and played the run extremely well again. He is such a freak I bet he could play 34 DE or OLB, or 4-3 DE. I will dream of this guy replacing Kelsay untill the draft. With Bowers, Fairley, and Marcells, we may see 3 of the top 4 guys in the draft being front 7 guys. They are all underclassmen and I hope they come out. -
Who would stanford get then? Maybe a matchup TDB dream matchup vrs Arkansas? Is that possible?

Some interesting Lee Evans doo-dad

A team with Michael Irvin, Jerry Rice, Andre Reed, and Chris Carter at WR would have a terrible passing game with an Edwards/Losman at QB and Cornell Green's along the OL. WR depends on other players mroe than any other position, and IMO are also the least important position in football because of that (outsife of FB in offenses like the Colts, who dont even use a FB). -
Thus making a good offense win championships!
-
Dang, TCU hes first dibs in the Rose this year? That stinks - and I love those small school teams, I just miss the ole pac 10- big 10 matchups.
-
The best Defense is a good offense.
-
I wouldnt go that far. Wisconsin has a more talented roster but Stanford is very overlooked. This will be the best game of the BCS I bet.
-
Lets add their OL coach while we are at it. Cant wait to watch Wisc/Stanford in the Rose Bowl. Two of my favortie teams to watch this year. I wish the Bills were built the same way these teams are.

Totally unimpressed by Mallet right now
High Mark replied to The Big Cat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like watching the lineman. D Love is flipping to the play side on some of these runs and has been housing dudes. Even the announcers are starting to notice it. Id take Love over Mallet all day. Bewteen him, Carimi, Bamas Carpenter, and Moffite the Wisc G, there are a lot of OLman I like this year. Maybe we will draft some for once! -

That pick was pretty ugly. He sees the guy open, then throws. Ball arrives after WR is coverd, easy INT. Mallet doesnt throw it before teh WR is open only after. Thats a big thing we shouldnt overlook. -
Brad smith plays WR for the Jets. He was used more before they added Braylon Edwards and Homles. No reason not to use Cam in the WIldcat too. I just think thats where Newton will have the most success. He is highly unlikly to decalare - I didnt mean it to sound like he wasnt eligible. He is a Jr that needs to stay in school to improve his skills and I think he knows that. If he is suspended that will force his hand.

Marcell Dareus and Nick Fairley playing right now
High Mark replied to 1B4IDie's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I wasnt comparing, I said reminded me of. I agree his foot speed is very very impressive. But why would you not want a Dlineman to shred a blocker? I understand the tie up blockers and keeping your gaps mentality but thats nto what he was doing when I was watching. IHe was stunting as a pass rusher, would get picked up by a G, and that was it - no more pass rush. I think Fairley is a better fit for us. -
The NCAA would have revoked every win the Pats had that season, including the SB. Thats a real punishment, and was the proper course of action IMO.

I agree with what you say althought I dont think anyone is wasted in a 4-3. Fairley v Marcell was a good matchup. One thing I took away from the game (which I watched in a small window on my comp at work ) is that Marcell was very quick and had good feet, but honestly reminded me of Maybin. Running stunts and looping and runnign free he was great, but once he was engaged with an OL he was done. I didnt watch the whole game obviously but when I did see him get locked up he didnt shed a single block - which is exactly what i said about Maybin 2 years ago. Fairley on the other had wasnt as fast running around out there but he just ran straight through defenders blowing up 2 and sometimes even 3 blockers. He played more like Suh did last year. He is really mean and at 6'5'' with his long arms, he will likely be gone if we keep winning. FWIW, Dez Bryant, a top 5 rated player in this last years draft, fell into the late 20s bc of charactor concerns and getting suspended. He had more film on him than Quinn does. Its not too much of a stretch to imagine Quinn falling into the 30s or even the 2nd round. Maybe we could add him then? -
He will have to get suspended by the NCAA to enter this draft. Either way I think him and Pryor could make mean WR. 6-6, 250, can run very well, and he (along with pryor in Pryors Frosh year boal game) did have a very athletic and touch TD catch. Imagine running a quick screen to him 1 v 1 on a corner like Revis or Cromarti. Fade routes too.

I think he is a 5th-UDFA type guy that may just go play baseball

Thats a hand timed estimation. He ran a 4.37 laser timed 40. Laser as in 100% accurate. Yes I watch a lot of football, pro and college. I have yet to see Spiller do in the NFL what he did in College. And that goes for everyone because he hasnt done it. Geeze, thanks for making it personal. Clearly BPA sounds like you are drinking the Koolaid and can regurgitate what other people say, good for you. That opinion has really held up too hasnt it? O and why should I be over it? Is it because the Bills are playoff bound and loaded with talent? Or maybe because Spiller has been so super awesome this year and a huge part of our success. You act like the main reason this team has stunk for 10 years isnt our terrible drafting. I have every right to be furious when they blow 1st round picks and the team remains completely devoid of talent at the most important positions. And you can try to compare a 64 300+lb athlete to a 510 190 lber but good luck. Its apples to oranges in every regard. There is no common ground to base anything on.

Think Chan can handle Vince Young?
High Mark replied to Haven Moses's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
thats exactly what I was getting at. Why couldnt he do the same with Young? Isnt his past success with similiar guys a good indicator that he could also work well with Young? If we are going to stick with Fitz next season and beyond (im not implying replace him with VY here) it may be in our best interest to add a Cam Newton or Locker in the later rounds of the draft. In 4 years they could take over. Like I said, somone has to be 3rd string QB. -
I dont know how many times I will have to post this, but Spiller ran a 4.37 at the Comine. Jacoby Ford, who ironically plays for the Raiders, ran the 4.28 http://www.nfl.com/combine/top-performers Consensus best athelete, by athelete do you mean skill position? How can anyone guage athletic ability? Id say Suh was the best athlete with his size, strength, and quickness. Athletic abilty cannot be measured or compared between positions. besides, I know Spiller is a better athlete than Jackson, but guess who the better RB is - the worse athlete. PS if you mean skill position player, Mayock and others had D Bryant as a better prospect - something I think Bryant is living up to. Me personally, I thought Spiller was the 3rd best pure RB behind Gerhart and Best. http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/09000d5d8171c657/article/bryant-beats-out-bradford-as-drafts-top-offensive-prospect What have you seen, in the NFL, that makes him the most elusive on the team. That is my point, he hasnt shown that, preseason doesnt count bc half of those guys are flipping burgers now - yet fans still go on believing it is true. McKelvin is producing more as a KR too.

Think Chan can handle Vince Young?
High Mark replied to Haven Moses's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, considering the parts of the last two seasons (not this one) were Young’s best, and how he is very mobile, I think Chan could do wonders with him – Just look what he is doing with Fitz and what he has done with Thigpen and K. Stewart. I definitely think Vince could be a killer QB under Chan – but that’s not the point. Levi Brown was on the roster through the preseason – at which point the staff felt he wasn’t good enough to keep around and cut him, not put him on the PS, but cut him. 31 other teams agreed as Levi sat around on his arse in Alabama. Then we decided to bring him back after we cut Trent. So, who is the better 3rd string QB, Levi “not 1 team in the NFL liked me enough to have me on the PS” Brown, or Vince “I’m a head case but still very talented and the former rookie of the year and Coach Chan loves mobile QBs and has proven he can take mediocre players and turn them into statistical studs” Young. Yea, I vote Young. Let him battle for the backup role. We are only 1 play from Brohm starting (although I like him he may be horrible, he has no starting experience, where as Young has a lot) VY is gonna be a FA so why not, it wont cost us a thing, someone has to be 3rd string. -
Having never played line myself, and not knowing what they do at the pro level exactly, the basics of the calls tend to deal with the Os formation and the Ds alignment. AKA if the TE is on the left side of the formation the LT and LG may have a different call than in he was on the right or flexed out into the slot. Also if the DT is head up on the center, head up on the G, or in the Center/Guard Gap could change the calls and assignments for each individual Lineman. The same goes for the DEs alignment and alignment of the LBs, the # of players in the box etc. The playside and backside of the Line will have different calls. The purpose is to get them all on the same page and account for every defender. Some calls will have the T block down on a DT or a LB inside of him (meaning between him and the C), with a pulling G or FB kicking out the widest defender (referred to as down blocking), or the T could fan out to block the widest DE with a FB or pulling G going up field and taking out the OLB (called the Power O). Another play is the ISO where the GC combo on the DT in the G/C gap and the FB is "isolated" on the MLB. Zone blocking requires lineman to get to get to spots rather than a specific man. And yes the QB plays a huge part in this. Unless I am mistaken the QB will identify the front for the D is in and call out the blitz packages - that falls squarely on the QB, and is why the O struggled so much under Trent IMO, including the run game - they were always making the wrong calls and he failed to identify the blitz. Fitz is doing so well not because of physical talent but because of his intelligence and identifying the D. Hope that helps from an amateur.

He is the best athlete on the team - I disagree. Evans, McKelvin, Mcgee they all share the same build, same or better 40 time, and are all more proven than Spiller. On top of that, I think Kyle Williams is the best athlete on the team. To be 300+ pounds at only 6'1'' and to be as quick and strong as he is is much more impressive than being one of 5-10 players ont eh team that can run a sub 4.4 forty. Wood or Levitre too. Beside, I don’t want great athletes I want football players, there are plenty of great athletes who stink at football. Whitner, better athlete, Jim Leonard, better safety - take your pick Al Davis. Spiller needs a solid RT and TE to be good but Lynch and Jackson don’t? Doesn’t that make Spiller the worst of the three? He is not an inside runner - I know, which is why I don’t think he is ever going to be a very good RB. He needs to be used in space but we cant figure out how, yea I know, its the NFL, space is hard to come by, which is why you need RBs who are good in between the tackles. So now we have an awesome athlete at RB whose supposed talents we cannot seem to utilize, whether that’s Spillers fault or not is moot, because that’s the definition of a bad draft pick.
-
It seems that everyone seems to be *assuming* Spiller is/is going to be some great RB – where is that notion coming from? He has looked very average this year, and been outperformed by Lynch and Jackson – one of which was just determined to be worth a 4th round pick. Spillers speed no longer gives him the crazy advantage it did in college. He is not a strong enough runner to bounce out of tackles, he is a dancer and he tries to bounce too much outside. I don’t see how he will ever be able to grind out yardage at the end of a game. As a returner McKelvin has been out producing him by a fairly wide margin – I wouldn’t put Spiller back there when he is back from injury. I am upset about this guy, but I think that stems from the Bills FO likely being so surprised in what has transpired when I and others saw this coming from a mile away.

Wasnt John Guy fired before last offseason? That really helped us add Cornell Green and with our draft.
