  1. Easy SDS.  I like my CreativeLabs muvo mp3 player w/fm receiver and display over an Apple one that has neither.  No big deal.  Just my opinion.

PS I did read the review that was part of the first post in this thread.

in case you want to actually see it.

How in God's green Earth do you know you like something better if you haven't even seen a picture of it? Or put it in your hands to feel the quality (or lack of). There is no problem in liking what you have, but criticizing Apple for doing market research and seeing how people actually use their flash players and putting out what they feel is a better product is silly.

Would you like to place a bet on Apple's market share of flash based players in the future?

I don't see what the big deal is; I bought a 20G Dell DJ for about $150 several months ago, and with that I don't have to pick and choose what to put on the player.  To each their own.  If I wanted a flash-based player, I'd just use my Palm Pilot.

You know, perhaps you should look at why Apple has 70% of the market with higher prices than their competitors? Perhaps there is some additional value there? Windows users are buying them by the handfuls. Every time someone mentions the iPod - you jump on it with criticisms.

I read you drive a Camry. Was that the cheapest car you could find? Couldn't you have purchased a KIA? I mean afterall - a car is only 4 wheels, an engine, and a couple of seats wrapped in sheet metal...

Apparently, price isn't the end all of everything you buy - why should it be the end of MP3 players?

The tight integration with iTunes, the music store, the players, the gorgeous designs, the COUNTLESS after market products, the integration into automobiles all have significant value to - well 70% of the marketplace and it shouldn't be dismissed at every single opportunity.

  3. BFD....Creative Labs has had this one on the market for a while.  Apple acts like they reinvented the wheel.

No offense, but I shall be going on a rant that will include most of my Bills brothers in this thread....

Your criticism is unfounded. Were you at MWSF? Did you read the reports from there? I'm guessing no...

Flash-based players had 62% of the market in 2003 - the iPod mini reduced that to 29%. Now, Apple has targeted the remaining 29% who see a value in extremely small devices. They DID NOT claim to reinvent the wheel. They ARE expanding their product line to appeal to users who have different needs.

Considering Apple is kicking the absolute SNOT out of every single competitor in this area - with higher prices - maybe pausing to actually evaluate their new product would be worthwhile.

  4. Doug does deserve 100% of the credit for saving the Bills.

That does not mean we'd be a playoff team if he were still QB.  It's the same as Drew Bledsoe.  He was tearing up the league until opposing defenses learned to neutralize his game.  That happened with Flutie as well.  He was great until someone figured out how to gameplan against his style.  From that point on, it was over.  In the NFL, one-trick ponies don't last.

again... if Ralph wanted money he could have just sold the Bills or moved them and received WAAAAY more than $11M.... Flutie saved nothing.

  5. It can be debated how much of an effect Flutie's presence made, but I firmly believe that had Rob Johnson stayed healthy (fat chance) and remained the starter, the rash of Bills fever that sparked the seat sales would never have happened. It's a very real possibility that the Bills would be going year to year on a lease in Orchard Park, just waiting for the right offer from another city. Or worse, have already moved on to some other venue.

Ralph wasn't going to move this team for a paltry $11M in extra seat revenue... He is a business man who extracted more money from the fan base using his built in hammer. Nothing more, nothing less.

  6. How is it that someone will drive for 15-20 minutes in their car looking for a parking spot that is 50 feet closer to the store than the available ones???? Or they will sit in their car - RIGHT NEXT TO AN OPEN SPOT - while they wait for 5 minutes until the car 6 spaces closer finally leaves?

Just how lazy are people that they can't just park in a spot and walk an extra 50-75 feet or so and get on with their day????

  7. That piece of turf would be bitchin. It'd bring me one step closer to my dream of owning my own NFL stadium. With a few renovations I could definitely make a case for moving the Cardinals to my backyard.

And yeah...are we counting the playoffs? Wouldn't that throw off the whole 'worst week doesn't count' business?

no playoffs... PM me your address.

  8. SDS, for future reference, what was the cause?

I got my folks TiVo for Christmas and I hooked it up (they have DirecTV).  It's running pretty well, but anytime they want to do something I have to talk them through it (I live 4 hours away).  I wasn't able to set it up to have the ability to watch one show while recording another because their TV is like 10 years old and it doesn't have the ability to change the input.  I could rig up some splitters and A/B switches, but that would just confuse the situation.

I can just see them now getting the same message.  Did you get it up so that the PIP works?

    187698[/snapback]

the TV has nothing to do with recording one/watch another. You need two lines from your dish coming into your receiver for that. If you have 2 lines - you probably configured the tivo wrong.

I just disconnected one line to use another receiver (because you need a 2nd mpeg decoder) to get PIP. One receiver will not work for PIP.

I just nbeeded to tell the tivo unit that one line was coming in and not two through the setup.

  9. Just go to the guided setup and tell it you only have one lined connected.  It takes about 30 seconds.

Need help doing that?  Let me know. (I'm assuming you have a DirecTV/TiVo and are pulling one coax cable out from the back to connect it to a second DirecTV receiver, correct?)

it takes longer than 30 seconds.... I'm already done, but it was aggravating.
