Brand J Posted August 30, 2009 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Turk Schonert does have a role in contributing to the lack luster performance of the offense this preseason, but he isn't the biggest problem. The main problem lies with the guy running the offense/throwing the ball. To put the blame on Schonert would also indicate that if Tom Brady or Peyton Manning were to step behind center and run the same offense, they too would have similar stats the past few games - 7/11 - 45 yds 1 int; 6-13 - 31 yds 1 int. silvermike Posted August 30, 2009 Share Posted August 30, 2009 THe problem is this: If you fire Turk Schonert midseason, who do you replace him with? The rest of our offensive staff doesn't seem much better. Why did we hire him in the first place? He's broadly been a failure with young QBs. He saw terrible seasons from Craig Erickson and Trent Dilfer in Tampa before he got fired, even though Dilfer recovered somewhat. Then he came to Buffalo and botched Rob Johnson's young career. Carolina saw him work with Chris Weinke to the tune of 1-15, and then did a year with the Giants when Kerry Collins played the worst of his career. Aaron Brooks was worse than usual when he was in New Orleans. Finally, he's run JP Losman and then Trent Edwards into the ground. He's never coached a successful QB. Why do people keep hiring him? Sisyphean Bills Posted August 30, 2009 Author Share Posted August 30, 2009 Listening/reading the post-game comments, Jauron said that he is worried and concerned about the offense, that he never understood why a team huddles anyway, and no one on the offense is executing well. Several offensive players say they are very frustrated with the situation. Trent Edwards says that mistakes were made, he's not concerned at all, and he just needs to look at some film and get better. Trent's comments last week were that he just operates the offense the way he is coached. The experiment with the new look offense has been a belly whacker off the high dive platform so far. A total flop. Assuming it is not just a complex ruse to fool and lull opponents, one might think that the offense isn't exactly well coached. BillsVet Posted August 30, 2009 Share Posted August 30, 2009 Historically, GM's get two whacks at hiring a GM before they're fired. I think a HC shouldn't be able to hire more than 2 OC's or DC's before they too are dropped. That is, unless the coordinators are getting HC jobs. We all know Fairchild would have been fired had it not been for the Colorado State gig, so in effect Schonert being kicked to the curb should be the final straw for DJ. This is a man who's never chosen good OC's: Gary Crowton, John Shoop, Steve Fairchild, and now Turkey Schonert in nine seasons. It will not change, and his DC choices (Greg Blache and Perry Fewell) aren't going to be HC's anywhere anytime. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
