Phlegm Alley Posted April 13, 2006 Share Posted April 13, 2006 Back in February, I was playing two-hand touch football indoors in a gym when I made a catch along the sidelines when I was pushed from behind into a closed door. The combination of my momentum along with the push forced me to hit the door with enough force to shatter my nose, deviated my septum and opened up a gash that required 9 stitches on the bridge of my nose. I am getting a septoplasty to repair the deviation and to partially repair the nasal fracture. Has anybody gotten this procedure before or know someone who had the procedure? I don't know what to expect and when I tell friends, they think I am getting a cosmetic rhinoplasty. Is there really any difference between the two? Am I going to be bleeding out of my face for a while? I am also getting prescribed loritab. Can I at least look forward to being prescribed this? Had the septum repaired, tubine bones filed down, excess adnoid tissue removed and ear tubes put in both ears, I have chronic sinustitsus was in the hospital over night, had some bleeding but nothing to serious ENT came in the next morning checked me out and removed the packing from my nose, I could not believe how much packing they got in there and it was all bloody, dried blood but still bloody. only instructions I was given was to NOT sleep laying down for a few days and NOT to blow my nose, I was given painkillers but only took them at night The pain I had was not that bad, but I do have a very high pain threshold If you want to know anything else shoot me a PM John The doctor, who is an ear, nose, throat specialist, said that I would be wearing a splint for 5 days. I had a similar surgery two years ago to remove a tumor in my sinus as well as repair a badly deviated septum. The splints were like 2 little (actually they were f'n huge. When he removed them it reminded me of total recall) plastic surfboards that came out about a week after the doctor removed the packing. Once they came out everything felt fine. I can't say just how close what you are having was to my surgery, but I had it on a friday, and was at a Bills preseason game on sunday. Good luck!
