DOUG FLUTIE TALKING WITH DOLPHINS

Recommended Posts

Defo just said he ran into Doug Flutie at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino and Flutie told him he is in town speaking with Nick Saban about the Back up QB spot. Flutie said he was informed that Culpepper might not be ready the first few games of the season. He also said he is not looking for big money and want's to play.

Who would be under the impression Flutie was looking for big money?

It's really amazing that he keeps hanging on like this.  We're talking about someone that was a contemporary of Jim Kelly.  I guess it says something for the lack of depth of talent at QB in the NFL.

My thoughts too.

I had an Energizer Bunny flash. Says something for the shape he kept himself in too, plus, has he ever taken a really hard hit?

Anyone remember George Blanda?

I really hate this day on the Internet.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if this one is legit. Flutie was a Finfan growing up.

<cue "growing up" jokes here>

In fact, I believe his #22 at Boston College was chosen to honor his favorite player, Mercury Morris...

And have you looked at Miami's depth chart lately? Tell me DF couldn't beat out Cleo Lemon or Brock Berlin for a job.

In an unanimous decision, school administrators released a last-second plan for Brighton Campus to turn the 43 acres of space into a shrine to BC's immortal son, Doug Flutie. The plan may not be the most practical solution, but administrators are buzzing with excitement.

"We believe that our decision to dedicate the campus to Doug Flutie was the best direction to go," said University President Rev. William P. Leahy, S.J. "We could not think of a better way to honor his legacy at our University, and I mean, we can deal without more facilities, dorms, or parking anyway."

The "Hail Mary" proposal includes ambitious plans to construct the largest structure in the history of mankind. The solid gold statue of Flutie jumping into the arms of lineman Steve Trapilo in celebration of the greatest play in college football history will have a base that will take up two square miles, and the statue will be approximately three miles high. The monument will replace the Great Wall of China as the most visible man-made object from outer space.

:D Good stuff, though I thought Mike Williams was the largest man-made object visible from space.

What a politician! A New England native, played in Buffalo and the CFL, who is a lifelong 'fins fan! Is he running for president? :D

You don't remember him endorsing Hillary Clinton in 2000?

If that happened would he be the first QB to play for 3 teams in the same division?  (that one should take Lori a good 23 seconds... :D ).

Intriguing question. Be tougher now, with four-team divisions...

So far the winner is Jack Concannon, Bears/Lions/Packers back in the 60s/70s. Ah, here's an even better one -- Ralph Gugliemi, who played for the Giants, Redskins, Eagles, and Cardinals when they were all in the old six-team NFL Eastern division. That one's gonna be tough to beat.

Lori, here's a better one. Who, during the 1970's had the worst football card of the decade?

Oh, man. So many to choose from, including more than a few in the set your avatar is from. I actually started an All-Airbrush Team at one point, while sorting through some boxes of old cards...

For some reason, I seem to remember the Chip Myers and Gary Huff cards from that '77 set. Think Myers was a Charger by then, but the card photo was taken while he was still a Bengal. Never fear - have airbrush, will travel. Those painted-on bolts measure up against some of JP-era's finest work.

Huff's was a closeup, with a badly-brushed logoless Buccaneers helmet. Brutal.

For the Bills, the '75 Marv Bateman was pretty bad. (Cowboys jersey painted to look like a Bills shirt.) Ditto the '74 Ahmad Rashad.

Great question. :D

I'm in awe of your knowledge. I agree that Marv Bateman was one of the worst ever and I'll never forget the airbrushed velvet looking helmets . But, the one that sticks in my mind is the 1976 Eric Torkelson, RB, Green Bay (my avatar). He looks as though he belongs in an assisted living facility.
