Pat Robertson watch:

BBC Link:Rev. Robertson Speaks Again

On the one hand, I tend to dismiss Robertson as a fanatic who represents his own narrow viewpoint the vast majority of us don't share and recognize is whacked.

On the other hand, we tend to accept as representative of Islam those whose narrow viewpoint the vast majority of Muslims don't share and recognize is whacked.

Pat, want to take a wild guess at how you're making us normal Americans look in the world's eyes?

Pat Robertson is to the left what Cindy Sheehan is to the right.

Everytime they open their mouth and prove what 'tards they are, someone has to point it out and give them the attention they crave.

Maybe if you just ignore them, nobody would notice them

Not to defend Robertson, but the next time Pat Robertson rubs elbows with some of America's arch enemies like Sheehan does, it will be his first.

They are NOT in the same boat. Sheehan's worse.

Pat Robertson has a TV show. Cindy Sheehan would have dissappeared long ago were it not for the FOX news and Drudge infatuation with her. I hardly see how Robertson with a satellite for a pulpit is less dangerous than a crazy woman who has to beg to get arrested.

You must have missed the post that detailed how the Rev. Jackson picked up a raygun, and he's not afraid to use it for the people.

Does that make him more or less dangerous than Dubai Ports World?

I don't pay any attention to Sheehan, had no idea she was photo opping or whatever with Chavez. That tells me more about him than it does her. Maybe not a real bright move on his part.

Chavez is an arch enemy?

Why?  Because he's a noisy socialist?  ;)

I didn't say it was a valid point, I am just mentioning who I think he was referring to in his post. ;)

Way to nitpick, guys.

Chevez is not an enemy of the U.S.? Sheehan has also met with leaders of the Communist Party and other groups who are an Anti-US as one can get.

How does meeting with them make her dangerous?

I guess I can see how somebody could see Cindy Sheehan as morally repugnant, I haven't paid too much attention to what she does. I am more interested in Robertson simply because he is overtly using a religous platform which I have an academic interest

in. By my original question, I was really wondering if anyone understood this as a coherent world-view that many American's share.

Is Pat Robertson dangerous? I don't know. I think his world view comes from religious apocalyptism that many Americans share and therefore represents part of an influential block of politics that filters candidates based on this predisposition to see world events from the perspective of a religious revelation that may often go unstated.

I tend to be dismissive of Sheehan and just more curious about Pat Robertson and James Dobson, etc. Because it is much more broadbased and public.

I really think that we, collectively, are the dangerous ones. Mostly, because no one cares about anything unless it hits their life and wallet. For our demographics, it usually doesn't.
