Bentley

Looks like the NO center is going to be expensive but worth the coin. John McClain had a reference to him in Sunday's Houston Chronicle. Gotta like the description of fercious and nasty run blocker.

"Although potential free agents haven't gotten much attention because of the playoffs, one to keep an eye on is New Orleans offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley, who can play center of guard.

The Saints can franchise Bentley, which is rare for a player at his position, but he is a rare player — a ferocious, nasty run blocker and pass protector whose versatility will make him a valuable commodity if he reaches the open market.

Agents Neil Schwartz and Jonathan Feinsod are expected to hit the mother lode for Bentley if the Saints don't tag him".

One time Ralph and Marv...get us an interior lineman that doesn't get blown off the ball 25-50% of the time...get us an interior lineman that can pull and trap and pass block....get us an interior lineman that makes 3rd and short a certain 1st down rather than an "adventures in inept football " film..

Get us LeCharles....get us LeCharles LeNow...

What makes you guys think it will be different now. Even in non-capped year when Levy was coach we lost guys like Wolford, Ballard, etc... because Ralph was too cheap to keep them, even for hometown discount. Ralph seems willing to pay for name players (Spikes, Fletcher, Milloy, Vincent, etc...) But when it is a top tier Olineman , etc... Ralph has never opened the purse string. Why do you guys think it will be different now? Hull was an undersized reject from the USFL and friend of Kelly's. When Wolford, and ballard were due for Big contracts they were let go.

Blame TD all you want but the management of this team has never paid going rates for top tier Olinemen, period.

Instead he spends $5 million over three years on Bennie Anderson and authorizes drafting a college player who will make more over the life of his contract than we could possibly pay Bentley...it makes no sense VA...it makes no sense (I know thats your point)....I would much rather sign two vets for the OL (one Tackle and a superior G or C) and leave the top of the draft to Defense...

Not quite accurate on Wolford. Will was named a transition player and the Bills had the right to match any offer he recieved. The Colts gave him a good contract, but it also stipulated he would be the third(i think thats correct)highest paid player on offence every year he was there. The Colts had nobody on offence, so his contract was like 4 yrs for $6.5 M(really not sure on the numbers)where the same contract with the Bills would have cost like $15M over the same time.

After this deal, that type of clause was outlawed

this is the scenario i am growing to love. unless and only unless Ferguson falls to #8. The only problem with that is they will likely have to pull the trigger on the FA's before the draft.

which may not be such a big deal....if they can lock up a couple of superior OL FA's before the draft, it clears the way to focus on DL in the draft.

Wrong, Brown and Fina resigned the same year, Brown for 7 years 32 million and Fina at 6 years for 27 million. Both of these were considered undervalue contracts. To add to that Fina was cut the ery next year to save cap space, which was used to sign Mike Williams. Now that Williams big mopney years are due, he too will be tossed. Just as management leaked that Brown sucked and was a locker room problem, they cut him as well. Again, in a year when he was expected to actually start earning a lot of the contract money.

No the Bills owner has never really wanted to part with money for offensive linemen.
