It will provide the most change ( for the better ) without starting over completely. It will get us going in the right direction and achieve our goals quickest. I am supporting him for the following reasons: 1) We complain that too much of the old regime is still here and it will get worse because we need a complete personnel cleanout. Doing so would add a ton of time to recovery. Also, I feel replaceing the 3-4 who really are responsible, i.e TD, TC, JG and the strength coach (still here?) will straighten things out. 2) What makes us so sure the above replacements will be filled correctly. We don't know for sure but input from Modrick, Marv, Head coach and Wilson ( weighted to the specialists ) will eliminate some foolish picks. I don't know for sure but from the conferences I pick up that TD used his authority to override consenses to make picks that bring him into notoriety. I think we'll now be addressing the place that makes all the others work better , the OL and DL 3) What about FA and coaches. I think Marv's stability, his past, overall knowledge and overall likeability will help getting the the free agents needed or spend for the correct ones. As for coaches, Marv has a lot of connections and will help MM pick the correct ones. Also, in a backhanded way, whomever comes in knows there may be upward mobility. The difference is, on successful teams coaches are able to minimize weaknesses by playing to the strenghts they do have. Bill Belichick is a master of this. We still have a very good secondary. Our needs are clearly defined. The TD failure was softened by Ralph's hiring of fan favorite Levy. We refresh death with life. We soften anger with historic fondness. Levy was never known as a personel guy. Polian, Dwight Adams, Butler and AJ Smith were the talent guys. Levy plugged motivated. How can he motivate at 80, from a press box? This signing has NO significance. It is like England "rolling out" the Queen Mom once a year to the fawning toothless british fans who cry with historic remembrance of what was and would could be - ala a Great Britian! But really, the best teams are young, and TD was right when he said that today's NFL is for the young man. Look at the best teams, they all have young GMS and front offices. Almost all of the playoff teams do. Modrak is assume will take over the pro selections along and Guy will run the college full time. Bottom line, MM needs talent. We are thin at OG, OT, C, TE, FB, QB, DT, LB and FS. Simple as that. Our drafts have not panned out. Guys like Wire, Mike Williams, Denney, Edwards, have been flops. Free Agents like Vincent, Ben Anderson, Campbell and have stunk. Losman needs to wmore yrs of development, with the suspect line we have. There obviously wasn't much thought put into this signing by Ralphie since he called Marv and asked him if he knew of any GM candidiates and after thinking about it overnight Marv called back and said "what about me?" and of course Ralphie said "OK" and the rest is history. Nate Clements was anything but "the playmaker." McGee played well in the secondary, but he wasn't a shutdown corner or anything. The backup SS is Coy Wire. The backup CBs got heavily picked on in the Bengals game after McGee sat out a series. So the depth in the secondary might not be as good as advertised.
