Wondering if he'll be hesitant to bring in an OC or DC that might be ready-made to threaten his HC position if he doesn't get off to a good start. On the flip side - hiring the next Mike Shepard probably won't do much for his long-term job security either. Stating the obvious - but those will be some really interesting choices given the current dynamic at OBD.

Seriously, usually it seems to be a red flag when there is a head coach waiting in the wings... but in this case, I think everyone in Buffalo, fan and player and media slut and Bills' employee knows that this is Mularkey's one year audition. It matters not if there is a HC in waiting. If he produces he will likely stay, if he doesn't he's gone. Heir apparent or not.

Do you think MM will have absolute authority over whomever the candidates turn out to be?

Absolutely NOT! I think that they will be strong candidates that will be forced on Mularkey (former OC and DC or former head coaches). Mularkey will also be forced to give total control of the offense to the new OC.

Well more than likely, this will mean waiting a couple weeks until all the head coach spots are filled. No one like a Capers, Hasslett, Fassell, etc would be willing to take a coordinators job until they are certain they are not in line for any head coach positions.
