"Compassionate Conservatives" Strike Again

Recommended Posts

So our core documents and beliefs are a joke? Without those "anachronisms", your life, mine, and the world's would have had an alternative fate.

You own much to those weinie eaters. The natural resources and isolation of this nation sans that Christian guidance, with all it's warts, may well have enslaved the globe and presaged Orwell's "1984".

It's nice to enjoy the luxury of biting the hand that feeds you, or your predecessors, isn't it.

I don't often use smilies. I thought the sarcasm would be obvious and apparent. I've been RC for 49 years and am well aware of the contributions made by activities such as the Catholic Charities.

Simple - convince the voters and you will have your way. Calling them stupid seems to have been a crashing failure. Implying stereotype motive to others is another idea that seems to be less than effective. Sometimes, I wonder about you upper-crusters ;)

Party on, Mickey.  :w00t:

Constitutional rights aren't spposed to depend on votes. Core principles hold true despite the political fashions of the day. What "stereotype motive" am I "implying" in my post about a christian adoption agency receiving public money and refusing to accept catholic applicants because they aren't christians? That happens to be a fact, not a stereotype and I am not implying they did so, they actually did.

Pretty well covers that one.

That's sort of illegal, isn't it?

When I worked at walmart a couple summers ago i worked with this chick who was baptist. She kept trying to get me to go to church with her, convert me, etc, after I told her i was catholic.

So weird. She actually thought less of me because I was catholic. I guess she went to bob jones university. I did some research. I guess this uni is a bunch of catholic haters...bob jones actually wrote letters about how he was happy the pope died (not the latest, but from earlier years).

I found a couple pamphlets in the breakroom one time entitled "Are catholics really christians?"

It's funny, you know, because everyone says catholics are so uptight n all that...when we're the ones who are most open-minded.

A lot of these religions think that unless you are "born again", you can't go to heaven. It must keep the crowds down in heaven. ;)

My wife converted from Baptist TO Catholic. And that was before she met me, didn't do it for marriage reasons.

this may not make it right in your point of view, but i don't think the people at BJU are Catholic Haters as much as they are haters of the teachings of the Catholic Church.

In other words, they don't hate the Catholic Church, they just hate the fact that it preaches Catholicism.

;)

think what you want....the fact is,.....i personally don't hate anyone who is Catholic. But I do hate what the Catholic church teaches. the same way i don't hate JW's or Mormons, but I hate what I believe to be their false doctrine.

if that makes me narrow minded because i think my faith is the only one that is right....sobeit.

Though it may or may not make you narrow minded...I wouldn't hold it against you. Of COURSE you believe your faith is the right one...why the hell would anyone hold to a faith they believe is wrong?

The Gospel?

i have been in enough threads where i defend my faith through scripture which is different from the teachings of the Catholic Church to know this can't end well. so....if you want to discuss it off line through PM's feel free.

No need to. I don't think it would profit either of us to begin a discussion on Christianity if you reject that Catholics are Christians. That is what this whole thing seems to be about (people that do). If that is your position I wish you well but have little to say to you about this particular matter. At least we may agree on the Bills.

it wasn't my intent to try and get the last word in....but i feel compelled to say this...i am not one that thinks everyone who is catholic goes to hell and everyone who goes to a "protestant" church goes to heaven. i don't believe it has to do with what "religion" you are. i believe it only has to do with your relationship with Jesus Christ.

as it has been said many times... being in a "christian" church doesn't make you a christian any more than being in a garage makes you a car.

All religion is stupid. Why? Because it's administered by fallible human beings. THEY decide how we should worship. THEY decide how God's Will is interpreted. THEY make the rules.

That's why there have been wars time out of mind over religion. Everyone's afraid they may be wrong, so if they wipe out those who follow different rules of worship, they'll be the only ones left and therefore they HAVE to be right.

The men who have had stewardship over the Catholic Church are no more corrupt or evil or stupid than the men who have stewardship over other denominations. I do not take everything they say literally, it first has to pass the litmus test of "what is really the right thing to do?". And if, as in so many things, it's a grey area, than one must trust one's own judgement and be willing to accept the consequences of making a well-intentioned error in judgement...

The ritual and stuff is all very nice, but after all it's what goes on in daily life that matters. And as to THAT, most of us learned from mom and dad the difference between right and wrong. Which is really all we need to know.
