There is zero difference between this and a candidate in the 60s trying to get Polish people on the East Side of Buffalo to vote for them

Im Polish and Italian… my ancestors assimilated.

Somalians in Minnesota who don’t speak much English and only associate with other Somalians, not so much.

Surely you can see the difference even if you have to pretend you don’t.

Do you think assimilation is an overnight process?

Buffalo had separate newspapers in Polish and German for immigrants. Masses at St. Stanislaus are STILL in Polish to this day. St. Anthony’s has an Italian mass.

Up until recently, you could even find signs and such in Polish on the East Side.

Immigrants concentrate in areas with their own kind, so much so that areas get named for ethnic groups. Buffalo has Kaisertown, Polonia, and the First Ward as examples. And why wouldn’t you? Why wouldn’t you live in a strange new country with people that know you and your culture?

This is nothing new, it’s human nature.
