This is a political game using human pawns. They have every right to call in sick when the gov refuses to pay them. All the more reason to privatize the ATC function of the FAA, so it can no longer be used by stupid, reckless politicians. No matter. This tragedy has nothing to do with the FAA and looks like an uncontained engine explosion which may not have been possible to recover from, though time will tell. Engine failures are trained to all the time, and engines have kevlar to keep parts "contained." This may have been beyond that ability. No, they don't have a right to coordinate a sick-out. The government will pay them, and pay them quite handsomely. 2 hours ago, Roundybout said: NAV Canada simply passed on the costs to the passenger. You want to pay more per flight? Actually ... yes. The costs should be on the airlines, and of course those costs will be passed onto the passengers. It's a user fee. We have them for all kinds of things.

They have every right to not work if not being paid. The airlines pay huge taxes to the gov for this service. They are also losing tons of money because Congress is unable to manage its responsibilities.

I want to have reliable, responsible, efficient air traffic control. I don't, and I firmly believe that service being removed from our federal gov and the massive costs associated would be far better if handled by the private sector. I have absolutely no doubt about that claim.
