Favorite Pre-Corona Vacation Destination?

Recommended Posts

As far as just like an "every summer, easy-ish to get to" kinda vacation, the Outer Banks or Adirondacks are probably my favorites.

As far as more special trips go, some of my personal favorites I've been on are:

  • Belize - Spent a week inland checking out Mayan ruins (which I've always been very interested in) and then spent a week on one of the islands just relaxing, snorkeling, etc.
  • Spain - The two places I went to were Barcelona and San Sebastian. Barcelona is one of my favorite cities in the world. San Sebastian is pretty much a perfect vacation spot; world-renowned food (I think it has the most Michelin-star restaurants per square mile or something like that) and world-renowned beaches.
  • Australia - My partner spent most of her childhood in Melbourne, so going back and meeting all of her relatives was great. Melbourne itself is an awesome city. Great wine, great food, and Aussie-Rules Football is a super fun sport. We also spent a week up in Cairns where we did snorkeling, zip-lining, feeding/holding koalas, kangaroos, etc.
  • Singapore - The architecture and urban planning that went into building Singapore is insanely cool to me. Great food and great shopping if you're into that sort of thing.

What did you think of Gibraltar? We didn't like it. It was like going back in time to a late 80's Britain. The saving grace was the ride up to the top of the rock and the WWII tunnels.

We loved Malaga. A very laid back City. The Picasso museum is excellent.

I've also visited Barcelona and Lisbon but to watch soccer. We had 3 nights in Barcelona so got to see nearly everything. Lisbon I've been to twice but each time was just for the day. Well, I say day but the first time ended up a long day. Left home at 6pm Saturday. Flight to Lisbon left around 2am. I fainted on the plane. Landed in Lisbon at 4am. Into the city centre by 5am. Plenty of time to have a wander. Up to see Sporting Lisbon's stadium. Drinks and food by the Tagus then back to Rossio Square for pre-match party. Soccer game kicked off at 9pm. Straight to the airport after the game but not before being taken to some kind of holding centre which thankfully had a bar and somewhere to relax. Flight home around 4am. Land back in England about 6am. Finally made it back through my front door around 8am on the Monday.

I'd just got showered and laid on my bed for a sleep when a mate knocked on my door asking if I fancied the pub. Good job I was 24 at the time.

Gibraltar we spent most of our time at a tour of the rock. I had no idea it was carved out to hold 30,000+ troops for extended periods. MASSIVE! It was raining when we got  to town, so we just went back to the ship. The only bad weather day of our trip.

Malaga was nice, a bit more modern and less tourist oriented than most of our stops, if I recall correctly. We did a wine tasting there, so.........
