It's August! The last month before school is back in session and football is back in season. It's also the final act of the Summer season of movies to squeeze out the last bit of money from consumers before the more serious fare and glut of Oscar contenders begin to arrive. Primarily August is a month of scraps from the prime cuts of the season of much bigger movies. Yet there will be something out there to get people excited. Hollywood is counting on it, as a whopping 15 movies have nationwide releases this month. With so many options to choose from, there is bound to be at least one hit this month.....right?

Mandy Moore stars in, "The Darkest Minds". Imprisoned by an adult world that now fears everyone under 18, a group of teens form a resistance group to fight back and reclaim control of their future. Also starring Bradley Whitford, Amandla Stamberg & Gwendoline Christie.

You can tell from the previews the Chinese are heavily funding the Meg and Mile 22 movies.

All I see when I see Jason Statham in *any* movie is The Transporter.  Even in the Expendables, he's still the Transporter.  Now he's transporting a shark in the ocean.

The Happytime Murders is the digital manifestation of what happens when you run out of ideas.  Even bad ones.

Mile 22 is an interesting idea and I'll probably see it but coming on the heels of Mission Impossible, every actor in it appears to play the B team of the Impossible Missions Force. John Malkovich is Alec Baldwin, Wahlberg is Tom Cruise, Lauren Cohan is Rebecca Ferguson, etc and they are all on an impossible mission!

It's made by the Jim Henson Company and they've wanted to make it since 2008.

It may be a bad idea, but I don't think they're just throwing it together because the idea is "trending" or a good money-grab.

I think Peter Berg did a great job with Lone Survivor, but the rest of his movies have been **** and Mile 22 looks a steaming pile, as well.
