Observations: Chargers 22 - Bills 10

By Joe Buscaglia

Through two weeks of the season the Buffalo Bills had their fans believing that the preseason, which largely tormented them incessantly, was merely a mirage and that the team had more than what met the eye. That still may be true, but after the Bills laid an egg at home against San Diego, the shine from the start of the season has faded just a bit.

Buffalo couldn’t match San Diego in any phase of the game and suffered their first defeat of the season, a 22-10 loss at Ralph Wilson Stadium. The Bills had their fair share of issues, but where did it all go wrong?

Some observations from the game:

@ChrisTrapasso

Finished re-watching #Bills game. OL wasn't as horrid as I thought. Chargers called many perfectly timed / executed / creative blitzes (1/3)

But Erik Pears is big liability. Too tall to ever get low enough. Consistently driven back. Not quick to stay in front of defenders. (2/3)

Most of pressure on EJ was coverage related. SD DBs were physical. Manuel missed 3 downfield passes. WRs weren't ready for hot throws. (3/3)

This was an ugly, ugly game. It was an opportunity to show that things have changed at One Bills Drive and that this is a different team. Unfortunately they proved just the opposite. Same old same old, quality opponent, completely dominated. Next week becomes a very big game for this team now. Let's see if they can respond.

Bills special teams ace Marcus Easley is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with an MCL sprain, reports

I am not quoting that little piece of **** from twitter.

It sucks losing the best ST gunner that the Bills have. You are no doubt referring to the guy who covers the Bills for ESPN.

Multiple reports have Marcus Easley out 4-6 wks with MCL sprain. It'll hurt ST, but Duke Williams flashed in coverage early this yr #Bills

#Bills head coach Doug Marrone: LG Chris Williams (back) is under evaluation. Rookie Cyril Richardson may fill in if Williams is out.

Marrone: LB Keith Rivers to be evaluated on-field this week. Playing time toss-up between he and Preston Brown depends on health & matchups.

Marrone on Nickell Robey: "He may be pushing it a little bit ... He needs to let it happen."

Marrone on sputtering offense vs. Chargers: 3-4 inaccurate throws, many plays failed due to combination of other factors.

Doug Marrone: "We just have to keep improving. It's a long season." #perspective

Kraig Urbik: "We have to execute better"

Sammy Watkins: "We Started Too Late"

C.J. Spiller: "We'll Be Fine"
