Draft Analysis

I'm still not sold on Marrone and have def concerns with Hackett. The offensive playbook was a joke last year and I don't buy it was bc of the QB situation.

I still question the Preston Brown pick but not the player. I would have preferred they used that pick on a player that would have provided more of an impact then a backup insurance policy. We all hope Spikes has a good year and if he does should be resigned keeping Brown in a backup role.

On another note how long before someone makes the ridiculous you can't judge a draft for 3 years comment?

Don't know about Marrone yet, but they did get Hackett some help.

Spikes has a one year deal.

I think a draft should be judged before it happens.

Sometimes a draft can be judged right away and sometimes it takes a few years. McKelvin and Aaron Williams are prime examples of late bloomers.

So true! Back in the glory days the Bills didn't develop cohesiveness for a few years! As Bills fans it's hard to be patient. I love my team so much so I will wait...and as you all know we had the greatest comeback of all time! :) It's worth to wait it out.

I understand Spikes is on a one year deal but if he has a good year which we all hope you would want him to sign an extension correct? And if he does then Brown continues in a backup insurance policy role.

I don't see any reason or problem with grading a draft at the time then again 2-3 years later but some get all bent out of shape about how grading a draft now is meaningless.

What if Spikes has a bad year or has a good year and leaves?

I think you are right about grading the draft.

You are right. It is ridiculous to say one cannot judge a draft for 3 years. Of course one can judge a draft before that. It's just that one can usually make a better judgement of a draft after a few years have passed when one can actually see if the players drafted have learned to become solid NFL players or not.

It was a joke because of a ROOKIE QB that couldn't stay on the field and had issues reading defenses when he was on there. When you have a QB corp that has issues with the basic playbook WTF are you supposed to do? Let me guess 'Get creative'? Sure if you have a QB that can mentally do that, we didnt'

Well i dont know how you can judge a draft without any data in front of you. There i said it .

We sure as hell can project though ! What the outcome may be cant we? And those opinions are all over the place.

Between FA , trades and the draft Whaley has done a fine job with his intent. How a new owner could not love him is hard to fathom.

The Williams and Spikes deals are one year and these guys wont be cheap next year if they have any success . and they will . Both .

Preston Brown was good foresight by the scouts and coaches . He will do well to apprentice under Brandon.

Hence the descriptor " Project " . Every thread nearly devolves to EJ. For good reason . Because the team really now does hinge upon him and Hackett.

Nothing wrong with that

You can't judge a draft until you see production on the field. That's it..you can't say that guy is going to suck if he hasn't played a down...I remember when a lot of people said Spiller was a bust...hmmm. I think Whaley rocked it this year. Mike Williams, Sammy, Woods, Goodwin, Spiller, Freddie, B.Brown. It will get to a point where other teams will respect us and not want to play at the Ralph. Our stadium is already a tough place to play. Could you imagine when we get an aerial attack and a ground attack rolling. YIKES! As long as the O-Line jells and EJ has a good year..watch out Tommy! haha :)

Obviously you can judge a draft immediately. That leaves a person with only college credentials to be considered though. 1st year you have a lot more knowledge to make a decision. 2nd year, even more. By the 3rd year we saw what Eric Moulds could really do. Add in Bruce Smith and Steve Tasker (who I know wasn't drafted by the Bills, but wasn't considered much by Houston) and you should get the drift.

I hate these people that judge the Bills..the reason why they judge us is because it's easy to judge a team that hasn't won a lot! I love this team! They deserve our respect, they deserve everyone's respect!

Only time will tell, but our draft sure looks promising on paper. Watkins could be a top 5 WR....as a rookie. Kouandjo/Richardson/Henderson all had potential R1 grades. P. Brown is a big/strong/physical ILB and Cockrell was dominant against all-star competition, doing a great job vs stud WR M. Evans. Add in M. Williams for a R6 pick and that appears to be a pretty good haul.

On defense, we added DE Wynn/ILB Spikes/OLB Rivers/CB/S Graham/S Ladler.

On offense, we added RB. Brown/RB Dixon/TE Moeaki/WR R. Barden/OG C. Williams/OT Hairston/QB Guiton.

On ST, we added K Hopkins (kickoff specialist).

We also added an experienced NFL HC in J.Schwartz and two offensive minded coaches to help Hackett with the offensive game plan and to develop Manuel.

I think we could be two players away from making the playoffs on a regular basis: We need at least one more ptrue 3-4 DE to play in Schwartz's defensive scheme and we need a franchise QB. Hopefully, the latter is already on the roster.
