GIRLS: anyone else watching it?

well to update this thread the last 2 episodes have been a lot better IMO.

it seems the show is better when it's not about Hannah. Shoshanna is awesome and Brian Williams daughter is pretty solid as well.

Adam's new girl he just scared off had some decent scenes also. Gotta say it's and up and down show but I gotta give it a thumbs up.

Adam's "money shot" was possibly the most shocking thing I have seen on tv (non-porn) in a long long time...not so much the concept of the money shot, but the graphic aspect of it...I really wasn't ready for that...HBO and Showtime (Showtime usually gravitates toward the needlessly gross) always try to push the envelope, but that was pushing it pretty far. It raised the price of postage you might say....

Adam went pretty dark there. Natalia didn't deserve to be the brunt whatever is going on in his head. She didn't make him drink. And Hannah's OCD came from what? Anxiety? So Jessa is gone, Shoshanna slept with a doorman. Marnie is showing her true colors. Hannah is a mess.

Who am I supposed to like here? These people are awful. At least on Seinfeld they were funny.

Well, just two more weeks and we get dragons. Dragons!

I agree with your post about girls but for some reason I enjoy it a little, people are weirdos and this is a depiction of some of them

theres no one to root for, except shoshanna i find her adorable and funny.

The show is a train wreck. It doesn't make me laugh. It annoys me. It makes me cringe, yet I can't look away.

Yeah...that was...that was something.

It was also cripplingly awkward discussing it with my female co-worker on Tuesday (I'm HBO GO, I'm a day late).

Know how I know you're gay?

This was inevitable.

Okay, I've not officially come full-circle on Lena Dunham.

Before I started watching GIRLS I had unsubstantiated disdain for her and her work.

Then I started watching and that disdain evolved into fascination.

From there, bewilderment.

Then, after last night's horrific season finale, I'm back to where I started: visceral disdain.

As the marked-up poster reads: born on third, thinks she hit a triple--well, that's not fair. I don't know how talented she thinks she is, but the rest of the world has crowned her the millennial Hemmingway, and that's where I draw the line.

At best, she gets the "voice" nod as a default, only because nobody else her age was born to a NYC-based artist and can also write interesting, though vacant shock scenarios.

I don't care if GIRLS stays on air for another seven seasons, I'll never watch another episode, and anyone who tries to sell this tripe as "good" has no idea what he (though more likely she) is talking about.

yea tac gib eht............Lena Dunham is not exciting.........The oc/dc drama bored me to death. If they booted her from the show it would be much more enjoyable IMO.

Ray/Shosh/Ray's boy with the Mau's are good characters. Adam left the super smoking hot girl for the sickly hair chopped off boogers in the nose Hannah?

Come on bro, no guy is making that move. show is a disappointment overall IMO. Lena's not the voice or half as cool as they try to make her out to be IMO. seems semi-douchy even.

Because if you don't like it then it must be bad, right?

Not even close. The season 2 finale was BAD. And when I say bad I mean: characters you don't want to succeed do, there are glaring plot holes and whatever Lena's agenda is that jives with what Ryan wrote above got tired ten episodes ago. The show wants to be gritty and real, but the sexual range of Dunham's character sucks you RIGHT out of the realism. The show is supposed to be funny, but it's not. The main characters are DEPLORABLE, all of them, and watching them succeed is exhausting.

No, it's not "good."

I'm going to play a card knowing it could get me in trouble around here. This show sucks for the same reason LOST sucked--because ambiguity is NOT a plausible premise. It should not be the foundation around which all the drama revolves. It's manipulative and as far as writing goes, it's a cop out.

There is plenty of "good" programming, "good" music, "good" films, "good" everything that I don't like. GIRLS is not "good."

All writing is manipulative. That's the entire aim of the author. Manipulating the audience to feel an emotion is the goal.

Sometimes making someone uncomfortable is the goal as well. Not sticking to formula doesn't mean a show is bad, nor does it automatically make it good.

It was my parents' money.

Sometimes making someone uncomfortable is the goal as well. Not sticking to formula doesn't mean a show is bad, nor does it automatically make it good.

And that's a fine approach, except there's a difference between manipulating for manipulation's sake or manipulating with an endgame in mind. The latter I can tolerate.
