It looked like he went down untouched (possibly to avoid being actually hit with a foot planted?) They didn't show the replay enough to get a good read on it. But conceding I'm not an expert on the rule, it looks like the defender went laterally across and not vertically into where the ball was kicked, and akers went several yards forward and landed on him.
