Well, I won't dispute that it's definately at the pinnacle of California lunacy but there's plenty of same to go around. The Bay Area is always a hoot politically with SF leading the US "big city" pack on sheer stupidity.

Bezerkley is surreal area.

On every main street at the city line is a "Nuclear Free Zone" sign instead of a welcome to Berkeley one. The city is home to UC Berkeley which has one of if not the first atom smasher (cyclotron), which can be seen on a tour of the campus. The only people in the "People's Park" are the bums and druggies living there. There is almost no parking available any day of the week (even Sundays). They almost passed a proposition that would have forced coffee shops to sell shade grown, etc. coffee (luckily it lost).

Ironically this city is where Sean Penn got his classic car with the Glock in the glove compartment stolen. Neither have been found.

Princeton had their cyclotron before Berkeley did. Nevertheless, Berkeley used to be one of THE centers for atomic and sub-atomic physics. Now, since Berkeley's a "nuclear free zone", I guess they're pretty strictly limited to studying why toast always falls buttered-side down...

Why do they have to freeze the shopping carts? If they are going to do this shouldn't they go all out and get one of those Michael Jackson/Austin Powers devices and make sure it is really preserved for future generations?

Seriously, why are they freezing shopping carts? I do not get it. The article did not say they were freezing the contents of the shopping carts, they said that the actual carts are being stored in the freezer.

Mightn't these carts say "Safeway" on the side? It shouldn't be too hard to find the owner.
