Falcons at saints game thread

truth on hold

Me too. Had a soft spot for them after the hell they went thru with Vick and Saban.

Btw how was that PF on falcons defender but not on saints DB spearing the falcon WR in the back?

How about that lame holding call on the ATL running back on that 3rd down conversion to Harry Douglas?

Unfortunately, two big calls have gone against Atlanta so far.

How will we know if that deal pans out?

By that logic how will you know if it doesn't ?

So far the Cleveland Browns have received excellent nose tackle Phil Taylor, promising wide receiver Greg Little, and Stanford FB/LB Owen Marecic for Julio Jones.

In next year's draft, they'll have Atlanta's 1st and 4th round picks.

Winning what, though?

The Falcons have been a winning team for the last two seasons before this one.

Do you mean winning a Super Bowl?

Yes, SB.

You don't make that caliber trade unless you think THAT player is the missing piece. Otherwise, it goes down as a failure. I'm guessing they could have done better for the team had they not done this deal. No, I know they could have. This team isnt capable of winning a SB.

Agreed.

If you trade away 5 draft picks including two firsts and a second, you'd better have done it with the Super Bowl as your goal.

You don't know what the falcons would have done with the picks they traded.

You also seem to be forgetting a trade can work out for both teams.

Winning. (SB)

That assumes they would have won the SB wiith the pics they traded. How do you know those picks would have launched them ahead of packers, saints and others? How do you know they won't win with Jones? What is the time frame?

It's irrelevant what the Falcons would have done with the picks. You judge a trade by what happened… not by some hypothetical scenario that didn't happen.

As for your second sentence, no I didn't forget that a trade can work for both teams.

But the Falcons were 13-3 and the top seed in the NFC last year. On top of that, they played New Orleans close both times and beat them once.

This year the Falcons are 9-6 and lost both games to New Orleans, getting blown out last night. The Falcons have clearly regressed.

That's certainly not Julio Jones' fault and he does look quite good.

But his addition has not had the intended effect of making the Falcons a Super Bowl caliber team.

You're Judging the trade for a rookie in year 1 against performance versus 1 team? Wtf!! How do you saints aren't improved? Brees #'s would support that. Falcons lost in the wildcard round last year. This year they will most likely play in wildcard round again. If they advance that would be a better performance than last year. Browns however are likely to finish with a worse record than last year with no playoff appearance. By the criteria you introduced browns will likely have lost on the trade and falcons may have made out.

Falcons had a first round bye last year. Not to nitpick- just an FYI

You are failing to see that a trade of that magnitude was made with the intention of getting the Falcons to the SB. It wasn't made for the future, it was made for now...this season (and I'll give you the next 2). Unless the Falcons are able to turn it on and get to the SB as of now the trade did not get them where they wanted to be when they made the move.

On a separate note...some Falcons upset that the record was set so late in a lopsided game.
