Did Schobel's indecision effect the Bills in 2010?

Recommended Posts

As I have said before going to a 3-4 without the personnel was a mistake. Once that was announced Schobel was pretty much going to retire. Same thing happened when Greggo came in and decided to move to a 4-3 from a 3-4 resulting in Hansen retiring. Had Schobel been coaxed to stay, perhaps with the promise of a mixed 3-4 4-3 defense for a year or two (which we ended up doing anyway), we would have had a much better defense. Offensive tackle is and has been a mess since Peters left. Why we didn't draft Oher is beyond me.

Another stat which should be mentioned is the huge difference in interceptions. In 2009, with Schobel in the lineup, the Bills D had 28 INT’s (2nd in the league), without Schobel in 2010, the Bills D had 11 INT’s (28th in the league). Last year, with no pass rush, the opposing QB’s had all day long in the pocket. It doesn’t matter how great your secondary is, if you can’t get any pressure on the QB, eventually, someone on offense will get open.

9 or 10 wins? never happened with Schobel and Butler.

That has nothing to do with anything. The Bills lost 3 games in OT, another by 3 points, and another to the Dols by 5. It's no stretch to think that having both Schobel and Butler could have made a difference in the outcomes.
