I found some tape of Quinn, Austin

For what it's worth, I have no interest in looking at ANY players from over 2 years ago. If he's a senior, i feel looking at his tape as a junior and senior I relevant. Tape from his freshman and sophomore year are irrelevant in my book. I don't care how good or bad someone was 3 years ago. I want to know how good or bad they are more recently, especially in college football. The coaching and weight training at a college level is a different world compared to HS. Those two things can make such a big difference over two years

2009 was Miller's Junior Season. As a pass rush specialist it was by far his best year playing DE in a 4-3. According to you that is relevant which is the point. Just clips not his entire body of work.

That being said I also don't agree with throwing out anything beyond 2 years. If people make a big deal out of someone being a 4 year starter/player then all 4 years count not just the most recent. Older tape should be considered and weighted lower accordingly but not ignored. If you don't value being a 3 or 4 year starter too highly then I guess you can consider 2 year wonders.

You're reading between the lines. Not the actual lines. Yes, it's a positive to be a 3-4 year starter. Yes, i agree that we should be looking at his play in 2009, I never said we shouldn't, not sure why you bring that up. I feel that the 2007-2008 version of a current senior is not the player that your drafting. So why does it matter? Just because people are saying it's a good thing that he actually played as a freshman? The player youre watching as a freshman and sophomore is not the same player you're drafting from a skill/strength/intelligence standpoint. See it how you like, but I don't understand how video of a player 3-4 years ago has any relevance of the player that your drafting now. Apples and oranges IMO, two different things.

I think we basically agree. If you want to consider how long someone has been starting/playing as a positive you also have to look at the negative that might come with it. As I mentioned it has to be weighted accordingly. What that player looked like 4 years ago has much much less relevance than what they did 1 or 2 years ago no doubt. Never said otherwise.

What they did as a junior does have a lot of relevance but not as much as what they did as a senior. Miller had a lot more sacks as a 4-3 DE in his junior year. That is a big positive. He also has looked very bad against the run as a junior and senior which is a pretty important negative considering our biggest problem is stopping the run. As a pass rusher I think he has the potential to be great. Maybe like Jason Taylor and some others he can develop into a run stopper. As some experts have suggested despite his obvious pass rushing skills he might not be the best fit for us. OLB isn't the only position defending the run for our defense but it is a component. If we got Miller we would need to some how vastly improve as a run defense in other areas and let Miller do what he is good at.
