Fan in San Diego
The defense couldn't get off the field last year. That is the main reason we lost, so lets hope we can get some more 3 and outs this year.

Besides the other main reason, which was the offense was amateurish and could barely move the ball, let alone score any points. Other teams were typically quite content to pound the rock for the game because they knew the Bills offense was no threat at all.

The Bills D would play valiantly, keeping games close. After getting off the field they would have to watch as the offense accumulated 3 and outs and 4 and outs. The defense under Fewell would continue to play hard but would eventually wear down late in the games from having to go back out on the field with little rest because the offense couldn't accumulate first downs (time of possession). Also the offense's inability to score killed the team's hope and spirit. Touchdowns lift a team. Three and outs kill a team's spirit. If you watched all the games, it should have been clear that the offense was worse than the defense. The Bills were 28th in points scored and 16th in points allowed. No doubt the defense wore down late in games but even before that (1st 2nd 3rd qtr) they could rarely get a three and out and off the field. I always cringed at 3rd and long because the other team almost always converted that to a 1st down. The run defense is a sieve no matter which qtr and needed to shored up. Part of that was also scheme. Thanks, Dick.
