Hello all! im a daily guest to TBD but im a first time poster and member. Before I post i'd just like to say I really enjoy the informative, entertaining and enjoyable content coming from this message board. I hope I can add some things as well. Im born and raised in south buffalo and a bills fan through and through. So with that, here's my first post.

Free Agency - One part of me is disappointed the bills weren't as active as they could've been. But another part of me understands why they weren't. The market wasn't all that great, and the big names that were out there got extremely over paid ( peppers, dansby, etc etc. I would have liked to see them sign a competent left tackle or right tackle and a Wide Receiver. Marcus Mcneil and Chris Chambers perhaps. I do like the Andra Davis and Dwan Edwards signings. ( hopefully edwards is past his injury. Cornell Green - I know plenty can be said about his previous play but let's not forget he is coming from the raiders. They have a psychotic owner, a coach who likes to punch out assistants, and a vast assortment of overpaid players. Maybe with a fresh start and new scenery Green can get what's left of his career back on track.

Draft - Its a toss up between a tackle and a quarterback, old news I know. I'd be happy with Claussen or Bulaga at 9. We need both. As much as i'd like to give Trent Edwards the benefit of the doubt, last season proved just how much of a check down robot he can be. I don't know if a rookie left tackle at 9 along with the recievers we have now is enough for Trent Edwards to finally get over the hump even with a offense friendly coaching staff. But if I had a gun to my head, and had to make a decision, give me claussen if he's there and let Trent Edwards and him duke it out in training camp.

Other - I hope Aaron Schobel decides to stick around a couple more years, last year proved he still has something left in the tank. But if you see his rare interviews after games and such, is it just me or does he seem really disinterested? like his mind is somewhere else?

Aaron Maybin - yes last year was a missed season, but this kid has plenty of talent and the coaching staff didn't use him wisely. I don't think this kid should be in a 3 point stance at all. Stand up rushing linebacker at all times. I don't care if you suck at run support. Your job is to chase the quarterback down. Just my opinion.

thanks guys!

Welcome to the board...a few pointers that will help you out in the future.

- You must hate any player that could possibly end up in a Bills uniform. This goes for FA's and college.

- You must get use to threads that show imaginary drafts or future Bills rosters that never come close to being real.

- Learn how to accept the Bills various new directions only to talk about how dumb they were a year later.

- Keep a since of humor...we are Bills fans there will be at least 8 games we will laugh off every year.

- Keep a tube of KY around for Ralph to use on fans. Ralph prefers us to bring our own since they raised the price.

- Don't hesitate to display hate for any Bills player at anytime.

- Repeat threads that just worded a little different from the prior. ie "Whitner Trade Value", " What Can we get for

Whitner", "Whitner for Campbell", " Campbell for Whitner" , "Campbell for Whitner and Lynch" and so on. Get use to them.

- This one is key for the off season..Any scrub that is has been released or cut from another team, someone will think he

will look good in a Bills uniform. Even if he is a practicing transvestite that can no longer block for the run and pass protect.

Great to have you on board, As crazy as they are the Bills have the best forums in the NFL.

1st post!!!!!!!! your profile says 4!!!!!!! LIAR!!!!!!!!!!! To the guillotine!!!!!!! He is prob a JP. lover!!!!!!!!!!

lol j/k welcome to the board...

I am like you with FA not much was really out there so I am not too disapointed... I wuould like to see us bring in Campbell if we are not going to draft Clausen... and only if we get him for a 4th or so... that way we can work on the main problem IMO and get a LT and NT with the first two round... the way I see it with our secondary as great as it is... if we can stop the run and make them throw the ball, our O will get plenty of time on the feild... with that said I am really tiired of having a shity O-fence... ya REALLY tired of that so I guess it's a catch 22 and realy going to to take time.

Welcome.

It will also be helpful for you to undertsand there are usually three generations of Bills fans on the board. They go like this:

Newbies - born between 1985 to present. They either don't remember or never new the greatness of what the Bills were or can be. They became fans of the Bills because they live on the memories of geezers (like me). This group includes my sons.

Geezers - guys like me who were born between 1960 and 1985. Similiar to newbies in that we grew up in late 60's/early 70's when the Bills were doormats. However, unlike newbies (at least so far) we saw our Bills grow into greatness. We trace our Bills roots first to OJ (before the murder), but we really came of age with the Kelly gang. It was a wonderful ride which we now always refer to when talking to newbies as "the Glory Years, the Kelly Era or the Good Old Days" For geezers, there is one unbreakable rule newbies must follow:, If you mention Kelly's name in a post, please remember to genuflect. :D Jim Kelly

Really old geezers (many of whom are dead or dying) - They refer to the "good old days" as the 64-65 AFL Championship Bills. Out of respect to my own father (who falls into this category), Geezers like me pay homage to them to keep them happy and remain in the will. In reality, I'm too young to remember those Bills. (But I still bow my head in respect to Jack Kemp). Really old geezers refer to the Kelly (genuflect) years as the days of those "young whipper-snappers".

It doesn't matter which category you fall in, as true Bills fans are always welcome.

And if anybody ever berates our Bills during these years in the desert, remember my favorite saying..........

Da Bills - they may be an ugly mutt, BUT THEY'RE MY MUTT!!!!

I second that.. But should be responsible against the run... This will be easier to do in the 3-4 though... I was excited about the Maybin pick and was very disappointed in how he was used, I think we underestimated how much missing the preseason would impact his development.. Also, I think people on this board forget how young he is... should actually be coming out this year... He will be a beast for years to come at OLB...

Welcome to the neighborhood.

Free Agency - I pretty much agree with everything you wrote. I think being wise with the $ in a thin FA class was the right thing for the new regime to do. I remember Tom Donohoe and his 12:01am phone call to Jeff Posey's agent. Which, at the time, reminded me of the dad in A Christmas Story.....when he was really excited to get the leg lamp....no one else shared his glee.....and rightfully so.

Draft: Again, I'm with you on the picks. As for Edwards, i get the feeling he was check-down crazy only b/c he was yanked around in too many directions with the previous coaching staff(s)....he even said it recently that he was getting different direction from coaches. And they fired the OC right before the season? Every player on the Offense was at a huge disadvantage from that alone. Being the QB is the most important position on the field, it only makes sense that it hurt his play the most. Fitzpatrick played a little better, not that much...but at that point he had nothing to lose.....Trent did....his job. But, if they went with Clausen, I could not fault that pick too much. Few people would have criticized Washington if they took him at 4, but now that they got McNabb, all of a sudden a team taking Clausen at 9 is risky? I think it would be a good pick, IF the OT guys they covet are gone by pick 9.

Other - Schobel just hates being in Buffalo.....he's a Texan and most of them hate anything having to do with living in the East. I think he will come back for one more year. But he needs to let the organization know this. It's not really fair. BUT, if I were the front office, I am planning as if he is already retired. 1 more year with him or without him will not make a difference to the team 3 years from now, and that's when I believe this team can expect to see any progress in terms of getting to the playoffs.

Maybin - all I have to say is we should refer to him as "Maybe". Just don't know enough about him yet. I do believe he needs to be upright and chasing Brady twice a year....

Call me a geezer. The Kelly years are the high I'm still chasing brother. I know it's bound to happen sooner rather than later. Trade Lynch, pick Spiller, Tebow, an LT, DT, and OLB makes me a happy geezer.
