Wow Haiti's government is incredible

Recommended Posts

I mean our government is bad, but Haiti's is epically bad.

One day this week at the customs office at Malpasse, the Haitian town across from Jimani, a single agent was processing a caravan of trucks, including Polanco's, that stretched for two miles (three kilometers). In the line were rice, beans, canned food, construction materials and ambulances — all desperately needed in Haiti.

Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive says border controls are necessary to intercept contraband, and also raise revenues from commercial drivers' import fees.

Corruption was also a problem. Haiti regularly ranks among the worst in Transparency International's annual ranking of perceived corruption. Haiti ranked 168th out of 180 countries in 2009 on a scale where low scores mean most corruption.

We really should arm the populace and let nature take its course. Who knows, maybe we will start a trend...

As the 21st century began, human evolution was at a turning point. Natural selection, the process by which the strongest, the smartest, the fastest, reproduced in greater numbers than the rest, a process which had once favored the noblest traits of man, now began to favor different traits. Most science fiction of the day predicted a future that was more civilized and more intelligent. But as time went on, things seemed to be heading in the opposite direction. A dumbing down. How did this happen? Evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence. With no natural predators to thin the herd, it began to simply reward those who reproduced the most, and left the intelligent to become an endangered species.

Just to be completely clear, I was thinking of the populace killing or arresting their government. For them, it would seem time.

The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Getting supplies across a border is a cash-cow generating engine for many third world countries.

Climbers of Mt. Everest (not including Hillary Clinton) routinely have their supplies held up at customs for days or weeks until the climbers finally "get it" and grease the palms of enough higher-ups, and then they are suddenly free to go on their way.

Hey, there's billions of dollars in aid going into Haiti, and every Barney Fife wants some of it. You know this very well. They want that wealth spread around and some spread on them. It's the Cargo Cultist way!

We used to import items from the south of France and sell them at craft fairs. Getting that stuff through customs was a nightmare sometimes because we were newbies and hand no idea how to play the game.
