Dunne’s past NFL work includes national NFL features for Bleacher Report from 2016-2020, including a deeply sourced 2019 piece on the Aaron Rodgers-Mike McCarthy relationship that drew Rodgers’ ire as a “smear attack.” (Rodgers was a media antagonist long before vaccine conversations.) He was one of many B/R employees laid off in the summer of 2020 around COVID-19 cuts, the winding down of B/R Mag, and their whole features division.

I understand the sentiment about McDermott being a good person.

One has to wonder why so many people would be looking to hurt him and his reputation, that being the case. I mentioned it earlier in the thread, but Frank Reich was a walking disaster in Indy. Nobody listened to him or respected him as HC. It was like there was a substitute teacher there. He had to go.

But Reich the human? You don't see guys eager to line up and take shots, even though it was a mess. He tried, he just wasn't good at the job. That's no reason to tear the guy apart.

That's why you don't see these long stories about other coaches. This isn't normal.

    So why McDermott?

Ask Doug Whaley, maybe he can tell you.

The odd thing is that he's not wrong! It's genuinely amazing what they pulled off (through teamwork and careful, deliberate planning, TBH), although it was of course diabolical. What the Japanese pulled off between December 1941 and April 1942 was amazing too given the geographical scope and geopolitical complexity, but again the goals were bad. I guess the lesson is to never bring up well-conceived plans that succeed beyond all ambition if they're crafted by the bad guys.

I’ve known more than one person way back when who would say Hitler was a genius. I tried to avoid them whenever possible. :D

I don't doubt McDermott is a control freak. However, I also believe that Dunne has some axe to grind. Believe there was some issue between him and McDermott at some point when he was covering the team.

Back at the end of the Drought Era, this HACK defended the indefensible, trying to tell everyone that his good buddy Dimwit Doug Whaley was doing a great job. He has ZERO credibility, and major axes to grind. Anyone on here can slam McD all you want, I don’t really care anymore one way or the other… but anyone using this buffoon’s article as justification is not too savvy at all.

Sounds like you are one of those folks who just has supreme confidence in Shanahan despite Mahomes whipping hizass in all 3 career meetings.

Add Josh Allen to that and Shanny is 0-4 against them and all losses by 10 points or more.

I would LOVE it if the Bills go up against Shanahan in the SB.
