Best of luck to David Nelson. He was my pick from the day he signed. -
Where it is going to get interesting the next few days
Trader replied to bowery4's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think here is where we see if Nix is a good GM or not. This time of year is where he should be very strong in bringing in high value players for the Bills who have upside or who can step in a do a quick fix. Nix is not a wheeler dealer like Polian but he is a solid personnel guy. -
i agree with your post. There are fans here that think that Levi Brown will get signed to someones 53 man roster if the Bills cut him. That is not going to happen. Another team might sign him to their practice squad. They will not sign him to an active roster. The reason is that Levi Brown as good as he is (potentially) is not ready for prime time. Levi Brown is not going to help any NFL teams win this year he is one probably two years away. Regarding James Hardy, I do not think he fits here. He is too much of a finesse player and does not play with enough grit for this team. He may be a good fit somewhere else but I do not see him with this version of the Bills.

Give me your take on Brian Brohm #4
Trader replied to Another Point of View's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I watched the game tape and I thought that Brohm had an outstanding game I did not see a mistake from him. There is no way I would release him based on what I saw. I think the Bills should keep all three vet OB's then cut Brown and let Brown clear waivers and sign him to the Practice Squad No one will pick up Brown at this stage of the season. The Bills can be in a position to trade a QB for a low round pick or a player at a position of need. Carrying 3 QB is no big deal there is not that much talent on this team. In addition I would leave at least two roster spots open to claim a OL or a TE from another team. -
It is likely to come down to Chad Jackson or Hardy. As far as athletic ability I will take Jackson. He ran a 4.32 at the combine with a 38.5 vertical (source Football's Future) He also weighs 222 lbs. Both Jackson and Hardy have had concentration and ball skill problems Jackson does well coming out of his breaks and gets separation. Hardy never got separation even in college. One additional factor is Hardy's ACL, 4.47 is not a great 40 time for a receiver it's just Ok. That time was prior to his ACL injury. I wonder what his 40 time is now? Yes there are good receivers who run a 4.47 or higher but they are great route runners Hardy is not. I am betting that Jackson gets the nod over Hardy. I doubt they keep both. I am open to Hardy winning the job though but I want to see him win it on a football field against Defensive Backs not on Stats and the Height chart. I think it will come down to which of them stands out tonight.

Do you think that Hardy's combine numbers are still relevant? He has had major surgery and his combine was several years ago. Players change with maturity, Ideally they improve but for injury and concentration problems Hardy has had both. Hardy never got separation even in college where he was a man playing against boys. Defensive backs in the pros are much faster, more athletic and way stronger. Hardy gets pushed around by DB's half his size. If you are going to make decisions by combine numbers then Chad Jackson is clearly the best of the lot and even can give Evans a run for the money. David Nelson is a better receiver right now in his rookie year than Hardy ever was. I am not ready to declare Hardy a bust but he has been outplayed by every receiver on the Bills roster. Any coach would be hard pressed to keep him over guys who have worked harder and who have been more diligent in learning to run correct pass routes and who actually block for our running backs. Speaking of blocking any receiver or tight end who cannot block is not going to get playing time on this team including one Shane Nelson. Having said all that I know how you feel we see Hardy in a football uniform and he really looks like something special. You know the expression, "looks like Tarzan....." I think Hardy will see a lot of playing time against Detroit based on that performance he will make the roster or not.

Philly writer complaining about Eagles O-line

He lost his motivation because he took the cash and ran. -
They are entertaining again!!!!.. How long has it been since you have had this much fun in a pre-season? It's the entertainment industry or at least it's supposed to be and the Bills have been fun this pre-season. No?

Hardy practiced & might play against Cincy
Trader replied to Skoobydum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How would you rank our current receivers in terms of value to the Bills? At the most they keep 6. Likely 5 are going to get most of the playing time. So who get's cut? Hardy is not in the top 5 right now he would have to have an outstanding game against Cinci to get there or someone has to get hurt. -

Hardy, D. Nelson or Stevie but I doubt that all three will make the roster. Roosevelt to PS for sure barring injury of course. -
David Nelson returns to practice today
Trader replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I picked David Nelson before training camp as my favorite UDFA to make this team. He has made me look pretty smart. I would not write Roosevelt off just yet. Roosevelt has done an outstanding job on Special teams as a Punt catcher/returner. It should earn him a Practice squad spot perhaps more. -
It really does not matter to me who starts the season. I do think we will see Brohm prior to mid season or after the bye week.
-
Actually he would have had a TD if not for a horrific non call by the official.
-
I would not argue with any of what you have written. I honestly have not done a detailed study of why Brohm gets the ball out so quickly. It just seems so fast and natural when he does it. I also hope that one or all three of these QB's could be the answer. This team still has a lot of needs Highly drafted QB's take three years to be truly effective since they are frequently late to camp so the first year is almost a waste. Using high draft choices elsewhere would be a nice luxury and get the Bills to the promised land sooner if one or more of the current crop steps up.

Edwards, Brohm, Brown will stay Fitz will be odd man out.

Easley's condition might be season ending
Trader replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In light of Shawn Nelson's suspension maybe it's Hardy who benefits most. Perhaps Hardy can be used as the second or number two tight end until Nelson returns from his suspension. -
I am not throwing Lynch under the Bus, There is only one Ball to go around and Jackson, Spiller and Bell could handle it. We have a lot of needs on this team and we could afford to trade a RB or a Cornerback. Also I think that Lynch is the kind of player that needs a lot of reps. I think that if he is under utilized he might drift into some bad habits on a personal level. I also think that a lot of teams would be interested in a player of his ability.

Wow -- Some things in this game impressed me

Buffalo's OL was much better. They still have problems there but way better than the first game. -
I will read the Tim Graham article that you suggested. But I do have an answer to your question. It's the way the Ball comes out with Brohm. He is a throwback to the Ken Stabler - Joe Namath- Dan Marino type QB. The ball comes out bam! Now it seems that teams are all shot in the butt with the idea that the QB has to be a stork like 6" 5" tall. Few guys at that height get the ball out quick. They are plenty strong and have a lot of speed on the Ball but what they don't have is the quick release. When you combine that release with the ability to look off the defenders you have something special. Brohm has that magic. I don't hate Edwards or Fitz. But neither of those guys has that quick release. It really isn't something that is easily coached it's either there or it's not.

I do like your idea about Shawn Nelson. I think that David Nelson may make the team in place of Hardy. The Bills also have promising rookie receivers in addition to Easley. Note that Roosevelt did well as a returner today. He has great hands and just might find a role on Special teams. Jones is a tough kid who also excels as a blocker. Hardy will have to do something dramatic to make this team. Perhaps they can deal Hardy for a low round pick. -
I think J Bell made the 53 man roster tonight. A team will pick him up for sure if he is released. Nix needs to work the phones and see if he can deal Lynch for a good value player or pick.

I will be there to see a good Bulls team start a new era!

Tyler Thigpen Will Be On The Bills!

Nix is at the Helm????, Nix is a personnel man who has a title of General Manager. I think his power very limited. It's Wilson and Overdork (sic) who are in charge.
