  1. I know that these are the two teams most talked about for needing Peterson's services (although I think the Browns need him way worse). But I don't understand why they would looking at the current RB's on their rosters and what each team did last year in FA and the draft to acquire them. Someone other than helmet head Mel please tell me why.

    Vikings RB's

    Pinner

    Moore

    Cason

Chester Taylor (big FA pick-up last year)

    Falcons RB's

    Dunn

    J. Norwood

Robertson (3rd rd. pick last year, good minutes and yardage in relief of Dunn)

Wow, after seeing that list of backs I am now worried that Marshawn Lynch might not last until #12.

This brings to the forefront another problem with waiting until the 2nd round to get a back. People say "yeah , we'll just get Pittman in the 2nd or Kenny Irons" like no one else might pick them. There are lots of linebackers that might not become stars, but can be serviceable, but a second rate back is just about useless.

  2. It's not about a running back reaching a thousand yards, many mediocre guys have accomplished that. It's about WHEN he is gaining the yards, it's about being a "clutch" player. It's about taking the bull by the horns and willing the team to victory. Chester Taylor?

  3. Then explain the ball washing, media suck up, azz licking, butt lovin, superbowl destined crap that they have been paying to the piece of crap team that Miami is? Good God Almighty!!!! Saban was like the second coming if you listened to these media goobers. I agree that the media loves to bash Bufallo. Why? Because it is so easy to do so with little backlash from a small fan base. It's all about media market share and they are pandering to the masses. I'm a Bills fan and I relish the role. Every dog has his day and ours is going to be so much sweeter after having endured this.

I think this plays arole. It's easy to pick on the little guy, the fanbase is small. But , this gives the Bills an identity, as opposed to say the Jaguars or Chiefs, and I think will actually make them attractive to some people nationally.

  4. I wouldn't just cross the Cowboys off the list. They have a new coach and Barber wasn't THAT great.

The whole RBBC thing seems a bit overworked on the board. It works great when you have McCallister and Bush (2 FIRST ROUNDERS! for all you haters out there) not so good when you have Lamont Jordan and Justin Vargas. If anything the RBBC thing would make me want a first round back even more. It seems to have developed because teams are grooming a successor to their top back, like Dillion to Maroney. It works there but somewhere like Atlanta it just seems to bring out mediocrity in each RB.

  5. When are we gonna see an article from a grandma? Or a Sociologist? Or a paternity suit lawyer?

Really over-sensitivity of Buffalonians is getting to be kinda a joke. Do you think New Yorkers would still be talking about this? It would only come up when he came to town. Who cares. The local media is still trying to wring another story out of this silly event.

  6. One of the problems with finding the "next Clinton Portis" in the 2nd or 3rd round is that even if you have miraclously identified this diamond in the rough among the big list of guys rated for the 2nd and 3rd rounds, you have to hope he lasts until you pick. That takes ALOT of luck.

Pittman would be third on my RB list but if he is picked before we can get him we could be really F@#!ed.

I really don't buy this "yea, just get one of those 2nd rounders". Year to year there are only one or two that have good careers (bring on the "look at all the first rd busts") there are waaaaaayyyyyy more 2nd and 3rd round backs that end up special teamers.

  7. It seems like if the Bills don't get Lynch or Peterson, the next guy in line would be Antonio Pittman. He is smart and comes across well in interviews etc., probably doesn't hurt that is from Ohio State.

The Bills are kinda in a quandry. They need a back, but they might have some reservations about Lynch. He seems a little tight in interviews, like he is on his best behavior. I think he is probably fine "character" wise, but if the Bills blow it, that could seriously hamper the development of the team.

Pittman looks pretty good and might develop. He is a Junior. There are concerns about his size, but he could bulk up a bit, he's 5'10", the right height. The footage I have seen shows him making big runs against well blocked defenders that don't touch him until he is well past the line of scrimmage.

  8. Good job linking the youtube videos. Ive seen those videos about 10 times each while trying to figure out who could handle the job of being OUR #1 RB. after watching those videos as well as cfball over the last few years, only Pittman seems to be a legitimate option other than AP and ML.

Those of you who think I dont know what I'm talking about, please look at the videos posted above. Then look at these http://youtube.com/watch?v=AmFM8MepDjE

Is it possible one of the other guys make it as a starting RB, sure its possible. AP and ML are studs, just look at the videos. Look at their ability compared to the others. Speed, power, agility, elusiveness.....they have it. The others have some componants, but are not the total package

I love the way Lynch NEVER gives up. He and Peterson both run hard and with alot of competitiveness(to go with great skills). Peterson looks incredible too, but I see him standing straight up in the middle of the the line sometimes. I can see him getting hurt alot though he may be the one that is more talented. Lynch looks so good in traffic. I would be happy with either guy.

  9. running backs selected high in the draft is by no means a guarantee they will be great in the NFL. In the 1998 draft would you rather of had RB Curtis Enis at pick 5 overall or Ahman Green at pick 76? In 2002 would you rather of had William Green at #16 overall or Clinton Portis at #51 overall? Would you rather have Michael Bennet at #27 or Rudi Johnson at #100? Last year look at all the rookie RBs that contributed besides Mr Bush at pick 2:

1 2 Reggie Bush RB Southern California

1 21 Laurence Maroney RB Minnesota

1 27 DeAngelo Williams RB Memphis

1 30 Joseph Addai RB Louisiana State

2 45 LenDale White RB Southern California

    2 60 Maurice Jones-Drew RB UCLA

3 74 Brian Calhoun RB Wisconsin

    3 79 Jerious Norwood

6 170 Wali Lundy RB Virginia

Enough of the talk that we need to draft either Lynch or Peterson or the sky will fall please

Yeah but you have to FIND them, you have to find that guy among the 15 top rated guys.. That could take a few drafts, or decades.

Right. Tons of backs have been drafted through the years, lots don't turn out. Some guys are 3rd and 4th rounders that have real good careers. , but LOOK AT THE SUPER BOWL WINNERS! Almost all 1st Round guys. THERE IS A REASON!

You gotta take the chance. AGAIN, one team wins, 31 lose. Most Super Bowl winners had a 1st round guy....I don't know how else to put it. You draft a 1st round guy, you have a BETTER chance (not a gaurantee)

  11. For the record....I would be perfectly happy with A train as our starter this next year....

They guy can run, block and catch......he hits holes hard which should be available with this revamped line.....

A Thomas is a pretty good back-up, kind of an older Dominick Rhodes. He is not gonna lead the Bills to the Promised Land, get real.

  12. Adrian Peterson, Marshawn Lynch or Michael Turner as our starting RB next season.

While we do have holes on our defense, our biggest goal should still be setting JP up with the ingredients to allow him to flourish.

Our defense needs help, but we can get help with our other picks. We dont need any help on the DL. We need 1-2 LB and a CB. we have enough picks to fill those holes.

We can trade up for peterson and still add a LB and CB

We can take Lynch and get quality LB/CB in the 2nd and 3rd.

We can trade a 2nd or 3rd (and something in next years draft) for Turner, then draft willis or hall. If they arent there, trade down and add picks then draft Poz, Beason, Timmons, Revis, Ross.

We are sitting in a good spot. But in order to have a successful draft, we MUST add one of those 3 RB's. JP and our offense NEEDS them. Disagree if you like, but the only other RB in this draft that I can see as a potential star is Antonio Pittman (and his size scares me). We are the Buffalo Bills, we have 2 of the top 10 running backs in NFL history in our past. JP needs a 3rd in order to reach his potential.

    I COMPLETELY AGREE!

I have posted so many times, with info about Super Bowl winners, the fact that the real premium guys rarely go unnoticed and are high first rounders, etc. If the offense goes backward, we could easily end up back in 2005, with a team divided over the QB, and pissed off veterans.

Some people think it's easy to find another Clinton Portis in the 2nd round. I think that is wasting a pick. You have to go for it, it might not turn out, but it is the BEST way to build a Super Bowl Winner, instead of just an above average team that goes to the playoffs for a few seasons, but never wins the big one.

  13. I agree LT is definitely a me me me guy, most spoiled guy in the league. He also has so much wear and tear on him, the Chargers really should cut him. In today's world, the exception to the rule players who stand out are definitely the majority. Just like how more people die from car crashes than heart attacks.

Also if there is anyone we should cut, it's Terrence McGee. See he has had a chance to cover really good recievers like Reggie Wayne and now we're worried about him being our starting corner. Ashton Youboty has never covered a #1 receiver so therefore he has never failed at it. We're fine with him. I'm sure Marv will back me up on this one.

You're crazy. Do you think the 1st round is the best place to find a running back? Only 75% of the Super Bowl winners had !st round running backs. Plus none of those guys were team players, none would fit on the BIlls roster. They want ALL the girls!

Franco Harris was overrated, they could have gotten a guy as good in the 4th round! They didn't need him to win those 4 Super Bowls.

  14. The very small thing I was thinking about (and I heartily admit to being limited but fortunately I have a significant other who is not reluctant to correct me when I fall short) was the theory you proposed that its all about having three premier skill players.

This broad supposition is most authoritatively checked by reviewing the successful teams to identify the three premier skill players. Before I jumped into this lengthy to do it authoritatively analysis, i tool a look at the most successful team this decade the Pats, and the most recent success the Colts.

As neither team really fit your theory (including interestingly the Colts winning it all coincidental or perhaps because of in terms of cap allocations, made a decision to let their third premier skill player take a walk rather than them spending big cap bucks to endorse your model). I did not think it was likely to be worthwhile to do a broader analysis since the most successful recent examples from last year and this decade do not fit it.

Perhaps I am wrong and I would very much enjoy reading a real and broader analysis of successful teams (my personal bias is that the 4 teams which make the conference championship game can be called successful).

However, you are correct that my thinking is limited so I cannot take the time to do the broader analysis which might support your theory. In fact my brain is so little that I stated my point so poorly that I must have given you the rediculous impression that I was saying Brady did it alone, when actually I was saying the opposite that it is not all about Brady nor is it all about three premier players in fact it is all about the TEAM as a whole.

I look forward to your next nugget of wisdom even thought an analysis of the most successful team last year and the most successful team this decade indicates that the three premier player theory is not correct. It must be that if a thinking person did a broader analysis it would support the theory even if immediate reality does not.

Joseph Addai was a first rounder, Marvin Harrison was a first rounder, Peyton MAnning was a first rounder, edgerrin james was a first rounder?

  15. Makes sense. When you have a player like Jason Peters who has pro bowl potential, or a 48 million dollar Guard, the thing to do is get them OFF of the field whenever possible and rotate them with scrubs. I like that thinking.

Players such as Orlando Pace and Jonathan Ogden should sit on the sidelines for a solid chunk of the football game. Just because they are dominant doesn't earn them a right to a full time job, right?

This (and of course defense) is how championships are won.

Nope. It's the OTHER guys that need to rotate. The guys you mentioned are solid, but you know what, in the MODERN GAME the tackles aren't as important as they used to be, the guards have seen a significant rise in stock. The good to great guards are what will make the UNDRAFTED running back succeed.

It all goes back to the FACT that Running Back By Commitee is the ONLY way to go. I wouldn't WANT A. Peterson on my team because HE's NOT a Buffalo Guy. The high draft pick running backs are always " me,me,me I'm the best guy on the team" we don't need that. "the Commitee" approach keeps egos in check too. Everyone will be happy eating at APPLEBEE'S.

  16. Only 2 corners? Why not 3 or 4? Besides, what about the safety position? We need a few more of those, don't we?

You don't know football. We LOST NATE CLEMENTS!!!!!

Sure we drafted a guy last year, so what?

Look, I know that Youboty would have been a top rated corner this draft if he hadn't come out early, but Leon Hall stayed in college and got seasoned. I think they should just cut Youboty

  17. It is true that RB position has been deluted in the last few years. Teams can get away with less compared to years past. Solid, dependable veterans who don't usually cough up the ball can and will continue to make their living, the RBBC is here to stay. Does a big time WR to pair up with Evans seem to make more sense than one would expect?

I think another under-publicized trend is the O-line ROTATION. I think the Bills will use more "situational blocking", much like the d-line rotation. Much like the running back, i think a late round guy would be fine for another wideout. Just draft defense! Defense wins championships!!

  18. I think drafting a back is ridiculous. The position has lost much of it's importance in the modern game. There isn't really THAT much difference between say a guy like Adrian Peterson and some of the UNDRAFTED running backs. Especially with this new "Run By Commitee" trend. This might sound radical, but I think that the Bills should approach the running game like a baseball pitcher, with each runner have a certain skill set for a few situations. Like one guy hits the hole real fast (the fast ball), another guy is kinda slower (like a change up), another guy cuts back real good (like a curve ball), and another guy can catch real well.

I think with this approach you wouldn't even have to draft guys just sign undrafted guys. they could be signed for an NFL minimum and allow us to draft:

    1. TWO more CB's

    2. Four more LB's

    3. 1 more DT

    This would work!

  19. Well, he does name himself after Larry The Cable Guy. That provides him the utmost authority, and lets us know that he once slept with his sister.

    The joke was on me.

I was originally "Paid the Bills". I kept seeing "git'er done" in posts and couldn't stand it.

    So I posted

"Git'er done isn't funny anymore" Subtitled "It's over".

Pissed off ALOT of buck tooth's. So just for kicks, I changed my name to "Git'er Done".

I didn't read the fine print. Apparently, I can't change my name for another six months. Kinda sucks, but I don't see many "git'er done"s at the end of posts anymore.
