If Ralph fears for his own job...
Steely Dan replied to Coach Klein's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think his comment was off the cuff saying maybe he should be fired for this debacle, at least I hope that's what he means. His demeanor after the game, it sounds, is one of a man ready to make a head coaching change and/or entire staff change. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Jauron fired before the bye week. In fact if the team isn't at 5-4 by that time it may be sooner. It makes the most sense to have a coaching change at the beginning of the bye week, IMO. -

No, I believe I understand. You're right, but as I said this is a much more important issue to me and it made me fly off the handle. I'll go back and delete those posts. I did? That's a matter of opinion I guess. -

I'm excluding them because they don't take a promise to follow Jesus' teachings. If they refuse to do anything based on the belief that money is more important than people at least they aren't hypocrites. The people who do promise to follow the teachings of Christ and then skew them to how they want them to is not a true Christian IMO. How many millionaires consider themselves Christians when Christ tells them that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven? They throw a few thousand bucks around and pat themselves on the back and smile about how their charitable works make everything else ok. Some will also use another's lack of following the teachings of Christ as an excuse for them to not have to. I've heard a lot of "Christians" use passages from the Old Testament in order to validate their opinions when the whole religion is called Christianity. Jesus's teachings never appears in the Old Testament and therefore, IMO, Jesus' words are the only part of the Bible that gives guidance to Christians. What he said. Spoken like a true advocate of human life. How many "anti-abortionists" support a system that allows that to happen, I wonder. -

Spoken like a man who's never had this problem. What is your solution to the problem. Screw 'em profit beats human life. It sure seems that way to me. Offer an idea that solves the problem. If the problem isn't with insurance companies refusing coverage then what is the problem? Do you feel the same way about a Walmart moving in and shutting down the mom and pop shops around them? If the public option doesn't refuse people based on "pre-existing" conditions and if insurance companies can't compete with them then they should go out of business rather than allow people to die. Yes they can. If you come in with what "they call" a pre existing condition they'll refuse to pay. Anything to do with my cancer, stroke, thyroid condition or seizure disorder would be considered a "pre-existing" condition and they would refuse to pay. As soon as I go over the line in income that makes me eligible for public assistance I'm shooting myself in the foot, but hey if I work hard I can still make it. COBRA is only valid for 6 months if you buy it. #1 I don't call myself a Christian. #2 How does what I do or don't do have any bearing on your relationship with Jesus? I believe I follow his teachings much more closely than the ultra conservative "Christians". My last job's health coverage was from "Blue Cross of Alabama". My job was located in NYS. If that in fact turns out to be true it will save lives. Do you or don't you support insurance that saves lives? I did fly off the handle but it's a very important issue for me. When people come in and start saying it's a scam when it isn't and it convinces others to ignore it then yeah I'll get pissed. If UConn had been willing to admit his mistake and apologize I would have removed the angry posts. Unfortunately he is as smart as a box of rocks, just like VABills. With malevolent intentions they stick to their guns. My anger was fueled by the stupidity of these people. EII and Levi91 removed their posts supporting UConn once they found out it was a real petition. Evidently UConn and VA would rather repeat their lies than admit they've made a mistake and by doing that they're costing people their lives. If you knew somebody was trying to kill your friends or family because they're stupid I think you'd get very angry too. -

It's not a fake website. Read the entire thread. If you read the entire thread you'll see it's not about Lance it's about the people who would be in his situation and not be able to do anything about it. You are interpreting in a way that makes him look bad instead of caring. Keep believing that if it helps you. He did have health insurance but they refused to cover his treatments. One of his sponsors stepped up for him. That's something the average American can't do. This isn't about a government option this is about holding insurance companies liable for payments. If you are unwilling to help those who need your help then don't call yourself a Christian if you think you are. If you don't believe in helping others you are not following the teachings of Christ. Matthew 19:24 (New International Version) 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." James 1:27 7Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. Timothy 1:3 3If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain. Mark 10:21 Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." Luke 16:13 and 14 13"No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." 14The Pharisees, who loved money, heard all this and were sneering at Jesus. 15He said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight. So, IMO, if you are not willing to help others in their time of need, then no, you aren't a Christian. If you don't sign the petition then you are unwilling to lose some money in order to help others and that is not following the teachings of Christ. The word is Christian. Glad you get it too. -

LANCE ARMSTRONG AND I DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Steely Dan replied to Steely Dan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
* Nope, but I use what little power I have to do the best for the most people I possibly can. Like those who truly need assistance and the only way I can help is through my vote. ** Use the power you have to help others on a much greater scale than you're currently doing. Look past your nose and, really, look past your nose to see what the real world is like. If you do, and you manage to understand it, then I think you'll easily understand what you can do. (I'm putting the chances of that happening at 1%) *** Go back and reread your posts in a disassociated way. I believe you will see that you are arguing that profits are more important than people. (I'm 99% sure that's impossible for you) **** No, but should people live in shacks using their monies for only basic needs. Y'know, like paying to send their kids to go to school. After all why should somebody else have to pay taxes for a public education program? (It's something you said in another thread once.) ***** I'm unaware of how a child's life insurance policy can be used for huge medical expenses. ****** Thinking that only the well off should have kids isn't elitist. *******Not wanting anyone to have kids because they could possibly get an illness they can't afford isn't elitist. Ok, here's how I'm interpreting your belief's: Insurance companies shouldn't be forced to pay for life saving claims because the companies can't afford to do that. If everybody only invested with you then there would be no need for health insurance because they'd all be able to pay for anything themselves. All it takes is hard work to succeed. (just to point out some common sense. X=the number of jobs considered "making it". Y=the number of people in America. X < Y. Think about it.) Only people who can afford kids that could possibly encounter major medical problems and some health insurance denials should have kids. I'm done here. You start arguing when you don't even understand what the argument is about. Even though it's the reason the whole thread was started. When you finally are told what the argument is about you don't change your opinions, just the way you phrase them. When asked a question you either don't understand it, or choose to interpret it in a way that doesn't make you look like a hypocrite. When asked a direct question that you can't weasel out of you ignore it or say there isn't enough information. I'm 99% sure that in the example I gave you that you couldn't ever figure out a way for them to get a million dollars no matter what the situation was. I'm 100% sure you'd never tell your wife that her illness is superseded by the insurance companies profits. I can't believe that even you would be that callous. So this is my last post to you in this thread. I have given you the chance for the last word. If anyone else want's to join this discussion feel free to do so. -

So somebody making $30,000 a year could be covered if they just didn't buy NFL Sunday ticket. I've heard your thoughts about the health insurance industry. It seems you believe their profit supersedes human life. I really don't care if you give a million dollars a year to charity your stance on this issue is uncaring. Do you give enough to help everybody who has this problem? Can you pay all of their expenses? Real caring. Ok, my family is making $50,000 a year starting out at $25,000 - $30,000 for five years and then $30,00 to $50,000 for the next five. What would you suggest for my family in order to make enough money to cover $30,000 a year in medical expenses for one of my children? -

And if you couldn't give her a procedure due to not having the money to cover it you'd tell her that insurance company profit is more important than her life. (But that would never happen because you've planned so well that it's a stupid question to even pose.) I'm very happy for you that you and your buddies can handle that situation, but most Americans can't and it's not due to poor planning. Once again you've proven your inability to understand anybody else's problems. It's I'm covered for such an emergency. My clients are covered for such emergencies. I still haven't heard one solution to the main problem being discussed here, just a lot of half thought out solutions. I get the impression that the reason they are half thought out is because it's never even occurred to you that this is a problem, until maybe now. -

Since the entire reason for this thread is how cancer patients are getting screwed by insurance companies and ending up with huge out of pocket expenses I thought that was the subject we were discussing. So I guess you can't handle hundreds of thousands of dollars of out of pocket expenses. If that's true then you should have planned better. -

I'm glad to see you've planned for hundreds of thousands of out of pocket expenses but you must realize that somebody making $25-75k couldn't possibly. The life sucks comment, was in regards to not being able to pay for a procedure due your insurance company putting their money ahead of her life. Nice way to skirt that question. -
LANCE ARMSTRONG AND I DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Steely Dan replied to Steely Dan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Do you believe that because a lot of people are helped and less than that are screwed that it's not a serious problem and doesn't need any serious attention? Here's one. Me. The employer I worked for had great insurance and a great plan to help me financially. Not everyone has that. In fact my nurse told me that a lot of people are fired once they are diagnosed with cancer. Also, if somebody is making $50,000 a year and their insurance company deems something an un necessary procedure what do they do if it's a $40,000 procedure? If your wife, god forbid, came down with a disease that may or may not be cured with expensive treatments would you say to her face or anyone else's face that you know that "life suck sometimes, our insurance company dropped us but there's no guarantee these treatments would have worked and anyway how would an insurance company survive if they had to pay these claims?" I'm guessing life sucks until it affects you. Also, are you aware of the difference in cost for health insurance when you're on a single payer plan vs. a large group plan? IMO, "life sucks for them" and "I won't do much to help them" are oxymorons. -

LANCE ARMSTRONG AND I DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Steely Dan replied to Steely Dan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
So, you believe that somebody, who has cancer, is going to cancel their insurance after the initial treatment is done while knowing, full well, that they will never, ever, be able to get another insurance policy under the existing conditions . God you're inability to really understand things outside your own carved in stone thought process' is astounding. As far as the "life sucks sometimes" comment meaning you don't care about people, I apologize. Obviously I've read that "life suck sometimes" comment as being cold and uncaring. Sorry, I guess you meant something I don't get. Chef, your first comments on this weren't about how are people supposed to handle these things, instead it was asking about the insurance companies. If you really believe that one of your plans could've helped everyone this problem encompasses you are even worse off with the "I only care about myself" isssue than I thought. A lot of this isn't due to "poor planning" you're an elitist if you think so. Let's say one of your customers makes $100,000 a year. They've come to you and set up an account that is worth a million dollars. The insurance company makes an excuse and drops them. How will that cover cancer procedures that often run in the hundreds of thousands of dollars? I care tons about people. You know, life really does suck sometimes. So if you believe that some people are not victims of poor planning then what should be done for them. Give me an answer that shows how much "you care about people" -

Steely Dan replied to Steely Dan's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I'd be willing to bet that this problem hasn't happened to him or anyone he cares about so it's not something, I'm pretty sure, he ever thinks about happening to him or his family. After all people deny a lot of things. Smoking won't elevate your chances for getting cancer, fatty foods won't increase your chances of a heart attack, driving without a seatbelt on is safer than driving with one on, a lot of people support the war until their child is killed. Unfortunately a lot of people are incapable of putting themselves in another person's shoes and that causes a lot of problems for people who have real problems. Somebody I've heard about has a child with a glaucoma problem that requires a lot meds every month. Together the parents make approx. $40,000 a year and therefore don't qualify for government assistance. They think that if the wife quits her job it may save them more money in the long run because they will then qualify. If a widow or widower is just below the assistance line then they may find it better to refuse raises and/or promotions. But hey if they work hard they'll succeed. -

Since I am on the mailing list for this organization and I know it's real. Uconn's comments serve to sabotage the entire cause. This isn't about life insurance. This about people who can be cured through procedures and insurance companies denying them coverage when they've paid for it. -

Please read the thing before making comments. If it wasn't for one of his new sponsors twisting arms he wouldn't have had his bills paid. This is in the original post. When I received my diagnosis, I was between cycling contracts. My new insurer used the diagnosis as a reason to deny coverage after the new contract was signed. Fortunately, one of my sponsors intervened. At their insistence, I was added to their insurance company and was able to continue my life-saving treatment. If my sponsor, a powerful company, had not gone to bat for me, I may not have made it. -
