Nah, you gotta declare that he'll be for us what Cee Dee Lamb is for the Cowboys to drive home the impact and reliability you think he'll have.

Shakir to me has what it takes to duplicate what Diggs meant to the team and what he produced.

I gotta at least one laughing emoji for stating it a few months back. 😠

If we weren't so stacked at the slot, I would be interested in Boyd and Renfrow.  Although, Renfrow did seem to fall off a cliff and I'm not sure if that's just a factor of being a Raider.

I'd be good with Yannick and Hyde on one year vet min deals

Boyd was a starting outside receiver before they drafted Higgins.

As we get closer to July, only 2months away, the better chance that some of these guys will be willing to accept a 1 year deal for less.

Coleman is 2a and Shakir is 2b to their #1 Kincaid.

Yes, consider that Kincaid had 73 receptions in his rookie season.  The “experts” claimed that tight ends usually take a couple years to be a factor.  I believe we can expect more from him this season and he likely will be the leading receiver.

Hopefully Brady will run plays for him over the middle and down the seam, as opposed to our previous OC having him run short outs and expecting him to get first downs with YAC.

You're basically not high on Coleman, and we didn't double dip at WR.

Based on experience and some of these prospects being older/ready to contribute immediately (maybe a bit lower ceiling):

    Immediate starters:

    Coleman, Bishop

Sizeable % of snaps/key rotational role:

    Carter, Davis, Hardy (returner)

Potential to be a future starter:

    SVPG (maybe even this year)

    Key backup/ST role:

Ulof (immediate core ST player), Solomon (key S/T and potential to be a impact pass rush specialist this year)

Grable is a solid developmental project, if we can hold onto him.

We needed to do a mini rebuild across the roster, replace leadership as you said.  I think we have a strong culture already in place but this class enhances that.

Honestly, this draft class comes down mostly to Coleman and Bishops impact.  And if we added some DL pressure.  Davis will be a solid RB2 no doubt.

I'm concerned about a 2nd outside WR too, but Beane either views a FA target post June 1 OR has enough faith in Shorter.  My guess is we grab a vet WR in FA.

Asking to go "GB" with multiple guys.... thing is we already have a few: Kincaid, Samuel, Shakir, Cook.  We need a depth outside/boundary WR (vet FA noted above) and we are counting on:

700-800+ yard season: Coleman, Kincaid, Samuel, and Shakir

400-600 yards (in aggregate): Cook (mostly him), Davis and Johnson

    400-600 yards: Knox, WR4, WR5

WR4/5: as of now, Hollins and Shorter.  That's not going to cut it.  But if we add a vet FA then I think we have at least a feasible plan in place.

Let's be patient and see how Beane addresses WR4.  He wasn't afraid to make moves after draft LY (Floyd, Murray, Ford).

The more I read about Worthy, the more I liked him.  He is said to be a better route runner than he was being credit for.  He was more than just a fast deep threat like John Ross.  However, with his small size, making it tough for him vs press coverage, he may be best suited for the slot.  Unfortunately this team already had Shakir, C. Samuel as slot guys so they needed someone as an outside receiver.

Adonai Mitchell seemed to be that guy with speed, but he dropped in the draft, apparently due to personality and attitude presented in interviews.  I don’t know if Beane tried to move up for Brian Thomas, but with him being picked only a few picks before 28, it seems it might not have taken much to move up to say 22.

So, they traded down twice to get a 3rd after giving there’s up in the Rasual Douglas deal.

Now, is Beane telling us that, with the 28th pick, he felt there were enough WRs they liked that they felt they could move down and still get one?  Worthy, Pearsall and Leggette were then taken before they picked Coleman.  Did they have them all rated fairly even?
I would’ve actually expected McConkey to be taken before Pearsall and Leggette so they valued Coleman over McConkey then.

As many have said, I still don’t understand why they didn’t throw a dart at another WR over developmental O-Linemen.  Then they only signed 2 as UFAs, neither of which is speedy.

I just can’t believe that they’re happy with Coleman, Shakir, Samuel, Isabella, Hamler, Shorter and Shavers.  I guess some of these guys may be better than having drafted one with a 5th round pick as most were with the team last year.  I hope they know what they’re doing because right now I have my doubts.

Yeah, I agree.  Drafting is such an inexact science that I like accumulating extra swings at the piñata.  It's true that 1st round lottery tickets are better than late round lottery tickets but I like lots of lottery tickets to improve the odds.  I'd love for the analytics guys to come up with a true equivalency and trade chart based on historical hit rates at different places in the draft.

If being a good GM was easy, Matt Millen would have succeeded.  In truth, Millen knows more about talent evaluation than 99.99%+ of the human beings on the planet.  Yet, despite being supported by a multi-million dollar scouting organization, he authored one of the worst 7 year stretches in NFL history.  However smart he may have been, he was still worse than the 31 other GMs.

I used to walk away from drafts thinking, "This is a good one," or "This is a bad one."  But I never actually had a freaking clue.  Now I turn off the TV, read the online scouting reports, and say, "Well, this is interesting.  Let's see how it works out."

I’ve noticed that many pre-draft mocks and evaluations quickly disappear after the draft.  They are not left for people to criticize.

Unfortunately for GMs, their draft history is available for everyone to evaluate and criticize.  Even though those jobs may sound fun, they have to have some thick skin.  Look what Beane had to go thru after drafting only one WR.

Well I was definitely hoping this would be a guy with some speed. Disappointing that after the talk about getting "more explosive" we didn't make a significant investment on that front. I guess the WR room will be looking like:

    Shakir

    Samuel

    Coleman

    Hollins

    Hamler/Isabella

    Shorter/Shavers/Cephus

I wish one of our 4-6 guys had some more developmental upside but that's probably fine, not much worse than any other team's 4-6. After getting basically nada from Sherfield and Hardy last year it could even be an upgrade. It's the top end talent that will be lacking in 2024, and that wasn't gonna be solved anyways unless we traded significant future assets which I'm glad we didn't do

Samuel ran 4.31 at his combine but deep passes don’t seem to be a major part of his game.

OK, so which veterans are still out there?  Obviously it doesn't need to be any of these people and it could be a random but this is who seems to be there that most of us would have heard of. Courtesy SpoTrac

    Hunter Renfrow

    Allen Robinson

    OBJ

    Michael Gallup

    Tyler Boyd

    Michael Thomas

    MVS

    Russell Gage

    DJ Chark

    Jamal Agnew

    Mecole Hardman

    Jakeem Grant

    Chase Claypool

    Deandre Carter

    Sterling Shephard

    Richie James

    Jalen Guyton

There are a couple other guys that honestly I haven't heard of.

The only one with history with Brady is Michael Thomas but Michael Thomas hasn't been himself since 2019 so I'm not sure how much that matters.  He's probably cooked at this point even though he's only 31.  He caught 149 passes in 2019 then wrecked his ankle and never really came back from it.  He's also been a bit of a headache so IDK if that's what they are looking for in a team with a leadership transition happening.

Allen Robinson is probably done as well.  It'd be easy to attribute last season to the Steelers QBs, but he struggled the year before with the Rams also who clearly had buyer's remorse after signing him as a FA. He had foot surgery, went on IR, and the Rams gave him away for essentially nothing to Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh just released him after bringing in QB help so they clearly weren't impressed either.  He hasn't had a good season since 2020 with the Bears.

OBJ gets brought up around here all the time.  He hasn't played a full season since 2019 and has averaged 25 catches a year for 4 years straight. He's also been a headache. He did have a solid playoffs for the Rams in 2021...right before he tore his ACL again.  Last season for Baltimore he had 4 catches for 35 yards in 2 playoff games.  It's entirely possible that he's done.

I'm not going through all of them, but I don't think it's any of these last 3.

It'd be a nice karma signing as well. He was the guy who really broke the drought, not Dalton.

Yeah, he’d get standing ovations at the first open practice, preseason game, etc.

Just based off production, give me Tyler Boyd: 1000+ yards in 2018 & 2019, 800+ yards in 2020 & 2021, 762 in 2022, and 667 in 2023. Seems a solid floor to me even if he is not the typical burner that would really balance out our WR room.

Yes, Boyd would make the receiver room look a lot better.  He was a starting outside WR before they drafted Higgins.

During his end of draft press conference Beane mentioned they worked out a WR today they will end up signing.  Regardless of them drafting a wideout to play the boundary I've fully expected the Bills to bring in another boundary WR post draft.  So who is it?  Given the Brady connections I've expected OBJ or Michael Thomas.   Any other thoughts on who it may be?

Was he talking vet WR or UFA?

Honestly, I’m pretty excited for today with a 4th and four 5ths.

Unfortunately with this Draft, it’s basically a 5 round draft.  Rounds 6&7 are said to be bereft of talent due to various factors.

That being said, Beane has crushed Rounds 4-6 with a ton of good players like Khalil Shakir, Gabe Davis, Taron Johnson, Wyatt Teller, Christian Benford etc.,

Could definitely see us taking our RB2 and WR4 today, along with another Safety and a Cornerback.

Should be able to get 4-5 guys who will make the 53 today.

They probably will draft another WR but I think they will also sign another vet.

Yeah, I'm just talking about using one pick on OL. I was mainly just adding a piece to the inventory you laid out.

CB, RB2, WR are my main priorities. They should take a flier on an edge, but I never liked this draft class at that position.

I like what I’ve read about Kansas Edge Austin Booker.  He’s a physical freak that just hasn’t had the reps.
