  1. I think it is a very useful debate. How many drafts have been ruined by reaching for need , I don't have to list them we all know the names. If Greene is far away the player with the biggest upside I would not argue against the pick and here is why. 1. Stevie johnson, who we all love was not great last year, repeat not great ,he dropped several big passes in the Steeler game and had a huge fumble in the Green bay game, before it got out of control. I think he is a great number two. 2. Lee evans has always been more style then substance. I know the whole decoy arguement, pull the d away blah blah blah but could he get 10 td's or 1000 yards recieving agian. Easley who knows but they like him so you can not discount him. Just saying taking for need is why the roster was a disaster. By the way the argument could be made for the cornerbacks in this draft. I think Greene ,Prince and Peterson may grade out very high . SHOULD be interesting .

I am down for Fairley but if he is gone it gong to be wild .

  2. Assuming Free agency starts before the draft here is what I would do

1 resign Poz,florence and wilson the rest can go

2 I would lobby hard for Ralph to open up the bank for two free agants. 1 Willie Colon right tackle pittsburgh, assuming he is fully recovered. The guy is a bright guy and team leader ad fills a huge need

second guy is pual soliai N.t .His addition really allows them to finally put a solid line togther on running downs.

3 Minnor or smaller deals . Thigpen, brian leonard, matt spleath, and stephen cooper these guys will not cost a ton and really will up grade talent base on the team.

4 The Draft two paths If New england really wants to trade up for green I am in . if not

    1 Daruis De A weakness is now a strenght WILLIAMS.,Soliai , Daruis Troupe,Edwards, Carrington

2 Greg jones ilb , great paring with poz , much more mobile but still very good against the run

3 Beal OLB If Merriman comes back to full speed great if not ,we will nned help

4A Ballard De not done with the Dl and I am a believer on drafting into the strenght of the draft and this one is loaded with Big guys along the dline

4b Curtis Brown, The little secret that nobody wants to talk about is the Corner back situation is not that strong. Mckelvin , loaded with potenential but wildly erratic. Mcgee is alway hure and Florence if resigned is solid and steady

5 Keapernick. big time project but I am willing to take a flyer everydraft , Fitz is fine for now but until the scenerio works out for them to grab their guy at the top of the draft this is the best way to go

6 Willie smith Left tackle , project tackle

    7 Brewer right tackle

now before you kill me I took the players off the board based on where draft tek has them . You might see Brewer and Ballard move up e

  3. There is little doubt that Cam is a major talent. The quesiton is weather all the parts come together for him to be a top flight qb in the Nfl. I just do not think the Bills can afford to take a chance at this point. They really need some cornerstone players. Taking an upside qb is just not the way to go at this time. To much risk for me . My two cents

  4. got this off the rotoworld site \

    http://www.rotoworld.com/

New coach Ron Rivera confirmed Tuesday that he will stick with a 4-3 defensive scheme in Carolina.

Rivera used the 3-4 most recently in San Diego, but he's coached both schemes in the past. Though he promised to use "some elements" of the 3-4 in his new defense, key players such as MLB Jon Beason will stay in their comfort zones. River emphasized that his will be an "attacking" defense, which is pretty much what all new defensive coaches promise.

  5. Dammit. I've been tracking this guy all year and figured he'd be a top 10 guy but never guessed he could go #1 overall!

I wanted him on the Bills the most but Bowers wouldnt disappoint me either. The question is - will Bowers be available when its our pick?

can bowers play a 3/4 or would they be better off with darues

  6. That's exactly what I was thinking. Fairley seems to be "the" defensive lineman of this draft. (Maybe I'm wrong) So, if he's taken 1or 2, you can probably trade back to #9 and get the same player you would have taken at #3; plus get a couple of extra mid round picks. Seems like a no brainer to me.

See... this drafting stuff ain't so hard. We got it all figured out. :beer:to us.

Of course, refer to my disclaimer from me earlier post.

That could work seems after Fairley there is a several D ends that will work for us at 9 .

the more hype green and the two cornerbacks get the better

  7. Question is...what defense will he run? He's run the 3-4 and the Tampa 2. I think that affects which defensive player gets taken.

I only see the Panthers going for Green if they say, get Vince Young for QB, or otherwise address that position to their satisfaction in free agency.

RIvera comes from the chargers and they run a 3/4

This year could be different due mainly to the lack of QB and OT talent at the very top of the draft. I certainly would not be shocked to see Green/Peterson go 1/2, given the needs of Carolina and Denver.

Needs for both teams and probable number 1 and 2 on most boards. That is what I am hoping for anyway give me Fairley or the alabama kid anyday

  8. Right. The F.O. gets so carried away with "scheme" players, and end up getting guys that can't even get on the

field not matter what scheme is being used.

Besides, as another poster pointed out, the Bills use a hybrid anyhow and need all the help they can get.

so you draft players that don't fit the scheme. Problems is they switch systems every few years. Jauron had to go but I would like to see Chan get a nice long run.

  9. Which falls back to my other point...if Modrak's scouting information on particular players is not worthy of said player being selected, then what value does Modrak have to the team?

You see, you can't have it both ways. Modrak can't be innocent of the past decade of poor draft picks (despite 4 different regimes calling the shots now), and somehow be valuable in scouting our selections.

Could Jauron have really screwed the pooch? Sure. But that's 1 regime. You simply can't claim that the same consistently poorly scouted players from 4 different regimes are independent of each other.

What, so next you're going to tell me that John Guy got a raw deal, that the quality of free agent "gems" Guy was bringing in was worthy of his continued employment?

Modrak is a holdover from the previously disposed Donahoe regime. I think the only reason Ralph keeps him in the "brain trust" is because of his reputation with Philadephia (which is also baffling because even with Reggie White, the Eagles never won anything with that Modrak compiled talent).

I just don't understand why you continue to give him a free pass...

again if someone decides to take the 35th best player on his board at number 8 to fill a need how is this his fault

there is no debate tht donahue and Buddy make their own picks , so that leaves the Jauron era opens for debate, that era is were you get the most head scratchers , whitner , mccargo, maybin

  10. Dude, you just don't get it.

    Nobody "reaches".

Information that these players would be good contributors at the Pro level indicates somebody got it wrong. Dickie J does not scout. modrak does.

Also, getting UNDRAFTED free agents to become studs is a far cry from striking what should be gold on 1st round picks...especially when selected in the Top 10.

I don't know how that that does not make sense.

Modrak does not make the picks , you have no idea where he stacks some of these guys on the board. He could have Whitner as his first or second safety but his 35th overall player , how is it his fault if Dickie j goes off the the chart to fill a need.

  11. And I don't know how many times I have to say this:

THE PLAYERS THAT TOM D, THEN MARV AND DICKIE J AND BUDDY DRAFTED WERE SCOUTED....(read: scouted)....BY ONE TOM MODRAK.

(caps added to emphasize shouting because Modrak defenders are mentally dense)

Your Director of Scouting may not make the picks. I will give all of you Modrak boners that.

But any GM, any coaching staff, heck...any OWNER....does not have the time to scout players full time...that is why you hire....wait for it....wait for it....

    ...a DIRECTOR of FREAKIN' SCOUTING!!!!!!!

That Director, atleast one of his duties, is to compile information on players at various positions and present/ rank those prospects in the order of ability to be selected.

Bottom line: No matter who has been our GM, we have not had any success with our first round picks this past decade (Eric Wood notwithstanding). ANY!

But somehow we strike it big on an undrafted free agent every year (Jason Peters, Moorman, Greer).

Now, If I were the owner...I sincerely appreciate the small undrafted gold we can find....BUT...there is alot more money tied into the idiots Modrak keeps saying are worthy of high round selections.

I mean, MAYBIN HELD OUT!!! WHITNER WANTS MORE MONEY!

These guys either blow (HArdy, Maybin, Ellis, Williams, Losman, McCargo) or are merely serviceable at best (Whitner, Evans (oh, I said it), McKelvin).

And let's use a little science here....

...if we have had several different GM's...several different coaching staffs and philosophies...yet the result remains the same...how could Modrak and our horrible scouting staff NOT be responsible?

I agree with your points, but I must admit...after reading it I am still not sure if you are supportive that Modrak is an inept doofus or not.

Now, I will give the Modrak lovers the concession that he is not the one actually making the selections. Granted. However, and this is a HOWEVER of the grandest scale...with THAT being said...the people MAKING the selections get their INFORMATION from somewhere.

That somewhere is the scouting department.

I don't understand the disconnect of the Modrak lovers. John Guy brought us horrible free agents (Dockery, Walker, Walker #2, Royal, Triplett), and he is finally gone. How is Modrak excused for his track record of terrible scouting?

    Somebody is ranking these players.

Tis this not the role of DIRECTOR OF FREAKING SCOUTING?!?!? :wallbash::doh:

Clearly he sets a nice baord which is why they get good production late. He is not responsible when Dickie j reaches for Whitner, mcargo , and Maybin to fill his need for lite fast defenders

  12. Boss and Soliai would be nice. But IMO, anyone thinking this is going to be a huge year for FA signings is in for a rude awakening.

It takes a ton of $ in signing bonuses to land FAs, and with the uncertainty involved in the 2011 season schedule, I just don't see owners league-wide going crazy to spend up-front money that won't have the impact that it would in a "normal" year.

Free agents will not be signed until after the cba is agreed upon. A nose tackle to keep an eye is the 49ers franklin. The changed in coaches may lead to a new D and make the 31 year old free agent readily available .

They way Chan gushed over Soila you never know . I could see them singing one big guy. Solia is probably 6-40 type guy. They have done deals like that before.
