People have said he is more of an H-Back type TE. They got Bubba Franks to block. That's good enough. They needed a receiving TE and that's what they got with Keller.
-
I actually think we can still get Hardy, Sweed, or Kelly at 41 with the fact that the second round has started and we haven't seen one WR taken. I can't believe it, especially with all the teams that have needs at the position.
-
With all of the top five still on the board, what do the Bills do with pick #41?

Once again, there has to be something that we don't know

I think you are right. There must be some reason that none of these WRs are going. We may be able to get Devin Thomas at #41 at the rate things are going. -
Crap, the first round played out badly for improving pass D
ax4782 replied to Pyrite Gal's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Still plenty of good DL still available. Merling and Campbell are still on the board. Also, many of the top WRs that people thought would be gone by now are still there. I think we may luck out and still be able to land one in at #41, or even be able to trade back into the first and get one. I really hope they trade up and go get either Devin Thomas or Limas Sweed. Only time will tell. And Dan Connor is still on the board at LB. Don't be surprise if we try and grab him in the second either. -
None of those teams have thus far taken a WR, which I'll admit is a bit odd. I'm starting to wonder if some of these guys won't be there into the second round. We are at pick #24 and no a single one is gone. Buffalo might be able to stay put at #41 and still get one of the top five guys. My gut says Dallas is going to take DeSean Jackson, and after that I don't see a WR need until we pick again at #41. Maybe they knew more at OBD than we did. Have to wait and see, but a trade up would get us exactly what we needed. A CB and a WR in the first round.

We Need Two WRs in the Next 3 Rounds
ax4782 replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Because Parrish is overrated, and Josh Reed is not a legitimate option at #2 receiver. He's a slot guy, and last year proved that. He just couldn't do enough at the #2 to take pressure off of Evans. Then you need another guy because if the first pick goes down, you're right back where you started last year. No legit threat other than Evans, and no passing game. That's why. -
We Need Two WRs in the Next 3 Rounds
ax4782 replied to BenchBledsoe's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Completely agree. Either they need to trade back into the first and get one of those top WRs, or they have to take a WR, TE, WR in that order for the next three rounds. We need help on offense and the team has done NOTHING to address those needs. Maybe McKelvin will be a great corner, but if your offense can't score any points, you're going to continue to lose ball games. Not the best move, in my opinion. -
Yeah, because a school produced some other talent means all of the players coming from there will be awesome. I didn't say that he was a bad pick, I just think that Buffalo should have gone a different direction, or if they wanted a corner, trade down. There wasn't much separation between McKelvin and DRC or Cason. And we still don't have an offensive weapon that can score points. Maybe he'll turn out to be great, but I think he's a bit overrated. Just my opinion, but feel free to disagree.

Try actually going to their website and looking at their schedule. Yes, they played three good teams last year, but the rest of them were teams like Louisiana Tech, Florida International, and Florida Atlantic. And if you actually look at his play in those games, you'll find that he didn't play nearly as well against Florida or Arkansas as he did against their patsy opponents. Sorry, I'd rather have a guy from a school who played against top competition every week and had those numbers. There were better CB choices. McKelvin won't be the next James Williams, but he's not the next coming of Nate Clements.
-
Maybe. But he's only 5'11 and the fact is Calvin Johnson didn't look THAT good this year in Detroit. Also, he doesn't have very good hands.
-
While I understand the pick at #11 of a CB, I think it was a bad decision in terms of need. What do you think the Bills do now?
-
No, actually its his bad hands, and the fact that he is another smurf corner. Buffalo needed a bigger corner, you know, someone who might be able to cover Randy Moss. Buffalo could have gotten as good a corner in the second round. The top receivers, a position that we absolutely need to upgrade in the draft, are all going to be gone. We could have gotten Flowers or possibly Cason in the second without losing anything. And last year, they did play three decent teams (which crushed them) and the rest of their competition was a bunch of fruit cakes. Take a look at the film of the Arkansas, Florida and Georgia games. McKelvin didn't do much, IIRC.

Who will be the Bills second pick of the 2008 draft?
ax4782 replied to d_wag's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You're likely right about that. I think Buffalo covets one of those receivers though, and I see them trading their 3, 4, and 2 7s to get back into the back of the first round and taking the best of the top receivers that are still left. -
"ALERT" This is a rumor only..........
ax4782 replied to marauderswr80's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dude, I'd rather have taken Cason later in the first or Flowers in the second. Both of those guys have better size. We already have two smaller CBs starting and they got destroyed by the Randy Moss's and Plaxico Burress's of the league. Sorry, but we should have waited. Not saying he isn't good, but that's not the pick that I would have made. -

ax4782 replied to d_wag's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bills trade back into the rear of the first round and take either Hardy or Sweed. If they don't trade up, they may take Nelson or Kelly in the Second. -
In fact I did watch a number of his games at Troy. I'm not saying he's bad, just a bit overrated, and he doesn't have very good hands. He is a good PR and will do fine. However, name me one team in the top fifty that Troy routinely played, or in fact ever played. You'll be hard pressed. Try looking at more than some YouTube footage before you run off comments.

As long as it isn't going to cost us anything next year, I could see doing it. Most of the top WRs are going to be off the board by the time we pick in the second, and we need to get either Hardy, Thomas, Kelly, or Sweed, though I have doubts that any of them are even going to be there by the SD pick. We'll see. I'm really not happy with that McKelvin pick. There would have been good CB value in the Second and still allow us to address our needs at the position. WR was a better pick. -
Actually, that has been the knock on him all season. I think he is a bit overrated. There's a reason the Pats didn't take him when they needed a corner. We would have been better off taking a WR, like Thomas or Hardy. McKelvin is not likely to come in and start at corner and he is not going to have much of an impact this season at all. Sorry, but corner was our #3 need. Most of those WRs are going in the mid first round. Guess it's another year of offensive oblivion.
-
I actually think you are on to something, though if Malcolm Kelly's stock has dropped as far as people suggest he may be there at #41 in the second. Imagine: Trade Down and receive an additional third: 1. Devin Thomas 2. Malcolm Kelly 3. Martellus Bennett 3. Mike Pollack
-
This sounds like an Al Davis ploy. ESPN has also been reporting that Dallas is looking to move up to get McFadden and that Jerry Jones is willing to do a blockbuster trade to move up and get him. I would not be surprised if this was a posturing move by Davis to try and get Jones to make a major deal. With all the needs that Raiders team has, it only makes sense to move back and get a bunch of additional picks early in the draft. I suspect this is even more likely BECAUSE they just resigned Fargus to a significant extension.
-
You forgot our third seventh rounder. I like the analysis, though I would rather try and get a center in the fifth or fourth and get a QB in the 6th or 7th.
-
The problem is, he hasn't been healthy for two straight years, and when he has played, he hasn't played very well. I think he was more of a one hit wonder than a top five player. If the Giants thought he was so good, they would have given him the extension that he wanted.

Take best player available - even at #11
ax4782 replied to Max Fischer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Pollack is a beast of a center and would be the best possible replacement for Fowler. Pollack looks a lot like Mangold and with him and Fowler as a backup, the position would be much better, and the O-Line would be complete. -

You do realize that this slate of players would not be a pure BPA strategy. Rather it is BPA by NEED position. Buffalo has a NEED at WR, TE, CB and RG. Drafting these guys would be BPA by need, not simply BPA. And thank you for not including Jared Mayon on this list. That said, I would like to see Harvey or Thomas. McKelvin is a bit overrated and I also don't think he'll be there at 11. I think the Pats take him at #7. Buffalo would do well to take either Harvey or Thomas, though I can see us moving down in the round and trying to get an additional second or third rounder and taking the best receiver available at that later spot. Likely 17 or 19.
