so far (and i emphasize "so far") ...

LMAO...............wow. How about Milloy? Adams was our best DL player. I'm sorry too, but he thought the same of our previous coaching staff as you did, but he was better than the stiffs we had, albeit with a bad attitude. Bannan / Edwards, who both sucked to begin with. Spikes is coming back from a devastating injury (keep our fingers crossed). Also bad, is the fact that we still have Posey and Kelsay listed as starters. And to this scrap heat we add Larry Triplett, a part time, bad run stopper in Indy, who was replaced so that they could finally win the Super Bowl. Soon Moulds will be gone. We still have an unproven QB. The line is a mess. The best ringing endorsement of Gandy is that he is good for how cheap he is. Yeah, that's what you should strive for out of a LT. Bennie. Enough said. And replacing him with a draft pick will be just as bad.....especially this season. Preston? Come on. CV? Ummmm, he's a good player if he has help around him. With this line, he'll be non-existant. And Peters, a project that seems is coming around. And to this scrap heap, we add Robert Royal, blocker extraordinaire, where Peters should actually be playing, but we have no lineman so he has to be a tackle. And Andre Davis....lol....along with his 9 receptions. And all of this mess, lead by Dick Jauron. A guy that has one good season under his belt as a head coach. A very lucky season in which the Bears turned ungodly amounts of turnovers in to TD's. And then promptly lost at home in the playoffs. One year. Out of what 5? And with him, he brings in coaches who worked for some of the worst teams in the NFL. Yeah, we're on the verge alright. Maybe for the #1 pick in the 2007 draft. -

Wow - Nice. 1. Simple 2. True 3. And will be true for every game after the opener. Nice. Remind to buy you a beverage of your choice at the opener. This has to be the winner. -

Didn't we celebrate the 60's last year? Couldn't we celebrate the 70's this year??? LOL Seems this team could fit right in with that group. -
are due now. How do you sell this team to the public? A 5-11 team. They've cut loose some of it's fading stars. And they've signed Trip, Royal and Davis, three players that have pretty much done jack so far in their NFL career. How do you sell these tickets to a fan base that was already pissed off? Anyone? Slogan? Anything? Anyone wanna try this one?
-
How about 31.5 for Cleveland as opposed to 17 for the Bills, and about what...4 million more if we would just cut Moulds already? Then you are at 31.5 to 21. Why are Vincent, Posey and Anderson still on this team? How much more room would that have given us? Think we could have done some damage with those numbers? I do. I think we could have actually grabbed some YOUNG line talent and still have gotten Royal, Davis and Triplett. Most everyone would be content with that going into the draft. We also haven't even finished the first week of Free Agency and most of the players this side of 30 years old and / or worth anything are gone.
-
Yeah, and being 17 million under the cap when FA started isn't exactly chump change. Having 14 million left at this point, when you finish 5-11 the year before is absolutely disgusting. It's not like we don't or didn't have money to spend. Everyone is all of a sudden acting like we are cash strapped.

The Sky Is Falling...Ahhhh.........
Lv-Bills replied to CJPearl2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly, lol. But hey, we're saving money for Ralph. Who wants a home playoff game anyway? Imagine how much it's gotta cost to print all of those playoff tickets. We'll show em. -
Honestly, with the path we've taken so far......we are a 5-11 team that has taken another step backwards so far. So, I'd rather have a youth movement at this point and not take any more Sam Adam's types. But seriously, even in that type of mold, we really can't even do that now. There are really no reall solid, younger guys left. It's all scrap heap stuff, that even if they all had career years, AND JP blossomed, we end up 8-8 at best. What a waste we've been so far in Free Agency. Seriously, it's just about undefendable at this point.
-
Not sure. Does the NFL have a senior NFL league like in Golf? SNFL or something like that? Cuz if they do, most of the guys who are left might be opting to play there.
-
The O-Line neglect is disgusting. But I digress. I'm guessing, but aren't Jackson, Buckner and Davis getting old? The thing that sucks about guys like Pickett is that they could have been signed, and they could have been here for at least 5 years. Most of the guys out there now are only stop-gap players. We have cap room. And yet, we are letting young, proven, players slide away from us. It's sickening, IMO. And this is on both sides of the lines.
-
Honestly, I don't know how good he is. He may be a stud. I do know one thing though.....there wasn't one team (and I know that doesn't mean individuals) in whole Pac-10 that could play a lick of defense. I sure hope he is different.
-
Bingo! But hey, you just aren't patient enough JSP. It's early yet. You are just too damn impatient. Look at all the sifted through, bargain bin guys out there.......well ok......maybe don't look. But hey, if we used every round in the draft on the offensive line, maybe 2 of them will work out. Then, in three years with the same type of drafting, we'll finally have a full line. Oh, along with superblocker, multi-millionaire, Bob Royal.
-
I hear ya man. But hey, be patient. Free Agency just started! Yeah ok.
-
How about this philosophy? All of the "be patient" crowd loves to harp on us who hate the Royal signing. And don't get that confused with us liking the Davis and Triplett signing either. But here's a novel thought. We NEED offensive lineman period. OK, now, we have super-freak Jason Peters on this team. We have cap room. Marv covets a blocking TE. We also need a TE period. All I hear about is how Peters practically walks on water and is a super human athlete with all kinds of skills that never really show. But nonetheless, they have to be right, so many coaches harp on it, so we'll assume it to be true. How about this.....we DO NOT spend money on Davis and Triplett at first. We instead should have aggressively targeted young O-Line players like Bentley, Shaffer, Hartwig, and maybe even Shelton and the like. Move Peters to TE where he belongs in the first place. Seems to me, your blocking TE with good athletic skills is already on this team. Take all that cap money we have, and would have saved, with not signing Royal AND SPEND IT ON THE LINE. We probably could have gotten three young lineman with 17 plus million. At least two. And with signing maybe only two, we still would have room to get Davis and Triplett. Cut Moulds, Posey, Vincent and Anderson, and we could even go get Pickett too. But no. We are the Bills, and we are making the same mistakes, over and over and over and over. We need Peters at tackle, not entirely because he is average, but because he comes cheap. Another piece-mealed cheap offensive lineman. But hey, cheap on the lines are the Bills way. And it's gotten us so far.
-
I agree with everything you say for the most part until the last paragraph. I also don't agree with your depth thing either. We don't need depth until we fill needs. Depth is needed at wideout, yes. BUT, an offensive line is needed period. Almost every spot on our O-Line could be replaced. Hell, then the new line will need some depth itself. No one wants to pay big bucks for old O-line players. That's why some of us were screaming about not getting the young upside lineman in the beginning. I mean come on. I'm gonna address Royal in another new post.
-
So, how in the hell are going win with these guys? BUILD THE LINE FIRST, then add guys like Royal and Davis. Add Pickett first, and then go get someone like Triplett. We could afford 1 or 2 very good lineman now. After that, we could probably still add Royal and Davis. Then work on the draft to start filling other spots. You add depth to a team that has it's foundation in place. That's why it's called friggin depth. Because players are needed behind good starters. Or players are need to play multiple spots or supplement other players weaknesses. Take the money we have, and start building the line and keep cutting deadweight. If you are serious about rebuilding, you start at the lines. If we would have signed two young stud like OL'men, we'd still have some cap room. Then if we really need Triplett so bad, start cutting deadweight vets. Anderson. Vincent. Posey. You might take a look at releasing Moulds to pick up more help. I mean, my god. If you are going to rebuild, rebuild the damn thing. There is no use for Moulds or Vincent on a rebuilding. So, you may as well go all out. Again, we have no friggin logical path to this. It's unbelievable. And it's unreal that fans keep buying into this way of thinking. I'm starting to actually think the Kelly-Era teams were a fluke. Not the teams themselves, but the actual build of them. Well, then again, no, they weren't a fluke. They were put together by Bill Polian, and for reasons, unexplainable to man, he was forced out or canned or whatever. Mind baffling. And it's mind baffling that people don't want to see a different direction in the way this team is being built. It's like a half rebuild, and a half reload / stay put type thing.

No, by all accounts, Shaffer and Shelton are second tier guys. We have 3rd and 4th tier guys. Are you kidding me with Shelton or Shaffer not being an upgrade? I understand we have Peters, and everyone has man-love for him, so we'll leave him alone. Shaffer OR Shelton would be an upgrade over Gandy easily. When can we actually get some lineman that aren't considered good, only because they came cheap like Gandy? I want 1 or 2 studs, paid, that serve as anchors for guys like Peters, and others. Until we actually target players that way, we have no chance of even building a line. Bentley, most likely we would not have gotten. However, we didn't try. We also didn't even try to make him a priority. And our cap dollars aren't limited. They are plentiful. Especially to start building an offensive line. The same mistakes are repeated here over, and over, and over, and over......it's old.
-
Yeah, they could, and they should. But why? Our philosophy is to go out there and find the guy for 1 million per that is buried on someone's depth chart. For some reason, we can't get it through our thick front office skulls that we need some anchor lineman. And to this day, even with all the cap room we don't have ONE anchor on either side of the line. And no, I don't count Schobel as an anchor. He's a good player, but an anchor he isn't. PAY THE GUYS UP FRONT.
-
The problem is, if you want studs on the O-Line, you have to pay them. Everyone keeps thinking we are going to rebuild the fuggin line without paying anyone. Take the money given to Royal and Davis, and pony up and get a Shaffer, Shelton, or even overwhelm Bentley to the point where his decision would have been tough. There WERE some out there at the beginning. They were gone right away. My question is............why didn't we have them targeted? But hey, we wrapped up guys that, by all accounts, could have been had later in free agency. And yes, it isn't hard to see what the front office is doing. They are making the same mistakes that we've been making for the last 10 years. They are also going after restricted guys in a time period where almost EVERY team has cap room. So, any offer we make most likely will easily be matched, unless we blow a guy away with large sums of money. And if that becomes the case, I would have much rather overpaid early a little bit for a PROVEN young player. It's downright moronic so far.
-
This is all fine and dandy. But......what is wrong with the Robert Royal signing? He isn't an offensive lineman. What's wrong with the Andre Davis signing? He isn't an offensive lineman. What's wrong with the Larry Triplett signing? He isn't an offensive lineman. Although we need Tripp too, we also need a stud next to him for him to be effective. While we were doing this, any young, above average O-Lineman were signing elsewhere. Now we target Reggie Wells. Which most likely we won't get, because he's restricted AND Arizona has more cap room than us. I mean, come on. These players do basically nothing to help mature a young QB nor does it give him the weapons he needs to even have a chance at being successful at this point.
-
New England doesn't subscribe to that theory. Hell, they gave us Drew and Lawyer, and it worked out fine for them. Wherever the value would be, ship him period. If you take care of your own house, and you felt the player wasn't good enough to keep (especially when you have enough room under the cap), it shouldn't matter where your player ends up.
-
As opposed to "I've never heard of Gandy"....how'd that work out? I was wondering about Fabini too. Anyone got an age on Fabs?
-
LOL, oh boy! Get ready!
