  1. You obviously aren't familiar with the Vols, IMO.
  2. Who's she? Never heard of her.
  3. yeah he attended UT, as in the Vols, as in not much better
  4. I thought tony's therapy session with Melfi in the last episode was one of the more touching moments that Tony Soprano has ever shown. He is very deeply disturbed by what he perceives as Chris' opinion and love for him (or lack thereof). I found it very telling when Melfi asked him if he might be reading too much into the movie depiction, and Tony says something to the extent that after all the years he's been coming to therapy, he knows a lot about the subconscious, which is rather odd because it took Carmela bitching at him about the movie for him to see a possible connection between the movie boss and himself. Tony and his knowledge of the "subconscious" didn't become conscious of it until she told him.
  5. yes, i know that. i just wanted to make it clear that i never was one of these bandwagoners
  6. Cynicism is the most underrated quality going these days, because it is really idealism attempting to slice its way to the truth and the heart of the matter.
  7. Yes, you are missing something. This is not merely just a tragic event that took place somewhere. It is an event. It is "MASSACRE AT VIRGINIA TECH". What do we have the media for if not to breathe unholy bottom feeding life into an already !@#$ed up situation? The situation needs a name that insinuates a constant ongoingness so that the media can justify wall-to-wall 24/7 Blitizing of the airwaves with their non-stop bull sh--. It's like Brand Recognition. You label a product with a catchy name so people remember it and continue to buy the product.
  8. Who wanted to jump ship? Not I. Simply stating a show seems to have rebounded from a string of "not as great" episodes to great episodes once again is hardly wanting to jump ship. Every show goes through rough patches.
  9. Someone tell me why, if we just jettisoned two aging LBs, one with serious injury questions, would we want to sign an aging LB past his prime also with injury questions, a player who had to be released because an attempted trade of him to the NY football Giants was nixed because he couldn't pass a physical? And you expect him to be able to run and cover field like we need our Cover-2 MLB to do?
  10. Sadly, many people take their cues from the succubus media that is already draining the blood out of this whole tragedy through their coverage: "Massacre at Virginia Tech" etc. etc., you can practically feel the adrenaline and excitement coursing through the veins of the writer of the MSNBC article when he types "rampage" and "Largest Mass Shooting in U.S. History" in bold font. And because of this nature, and because any news is better than no news, the media is most likely going to lynch VTech, no matter what happens and no matter what the facts of the case portend. But what do you expect? We will not know for some time what actually happened and whether certain things could have been done better or worse in dealing with the situation. At any rate, people that stoop to the lynch mob mentality are part of the problem and not part of the solution; they do a disservice to the excavation of the truth and feed into the ratings machine that exploits this tragic scenario and the loss of lives for purposes that can only be called egotistical and self serving. It is truly a shame, and those who feed into this kind of predatory zeal should be ashamed of themselves as well.
  11. Purty much. But lets let the hooligans duke it out a little longer, shall we? It's kind of fun watching them all wrestle around in the mud pit!
  12. Why don't you reserve judgment on the situation until all the facts of the case have been presented and detailed? You are too quick to judge before there's enough information to even begin to judge at all.
  13. "Lost" has really picked up since they came back from hiatus, imo. The last episode, especially. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.
  14. "The Road" just won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. It's like 15 dollars on Amazon, hardcover. Now I've got to read it.
  15. Another great episode. The closing song that starts as Phil is sitting at the bar and goes through the christening and the credits was perfect: so ominous, menacing, the spectre of death haunting the mob families; it kind of reminded me of Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum", you can practically feel the blade swinging back and forth and with each pass inching a little bit closer to the throats of Tony and company. Great cameo for Sydney Pollack. Made a kind of bit role into a really interesting character. Also, the slo mo shot of Sylvio getting blood sprayed in his face was really cool as well. Hadn't really ever seen it shot that way, which added a nice little touch, I thought.
  16. !@#$ DiPietro in his !@#$ing ear, the !@#$
  17. INSIDE MY SHELL I WAIT AND BLEED, IMO
  18. That's good to know. Thanks for the heads up
  19. Yeah, I forgot DeLillo; I read Underworld and Libra and he is definitely on my list. Toni Morrison, can't leave her off. Baldwin, same thing. Doctorow, I don't know much about, I will have to defer to others there. We should also throw Henry Miller into the discussion here somewhere. In terms of Pynchon, he of course is definitely on the shortlist but I almost think the jury is still out on him in terms of how highly he will place in terms of influence (which he obviously has had a lot, the huge post-modern American novel has been in vogue since Gravity's Rainbow, see Powers and what's his name, the guy who wrote "Infinite Jest" as examples) But Pynchon is a much loved/hated kind of writer. His acclaim is not as universal as Faulkner nor does his work generally resonate through a generation like Vonnegut's did, imho. He would not make my top 2 most influential and original 20th century Author list but that is not a slight to him (You could argue that Gravity's Rainbow is the most impressive novel written by an American author in the 20th century, for example).
  20. That has to be one hell of a marker. Is it magic?
  21. This thread just makes me all a quiver for two weeks from today
  22. I thought he meant "Guess who's back", like Slim Shady meant it
