  1. DT isnt that big of a need. that position drastically improved from 07 to 08. we have other bigger holes.

We know, we know Bucky, you want DHB for breakfast, lunch, and dinner <_< Seriously though, you can't say that Raji and Stroud wouldn't be more effective than Williams/Spencer and Stroud. Raji would be an upgrade that would have more of an impact for our team. Curry would be my second choice if all three of them were there @ #11. He would help the LB group immediately. Crabtree, although enticing, isn't as much of a need as the other two guys are for our team.

  2. Wow,

That would be a bold and controversial move. You would take him over anyone who might be available?

What if (and I know this is very unlikely and hypothetical) B.J. Raji or Aaron Curry happened also to be there?

Regardless, this injury of Crabtree's really thickens the plot.

If Raji is there @ #11 along with Crabtree and Curry, I take Raji. I'd hate to pass up on either of the other two guys, but I think that Raji would impact our team more. If we didn't have Evans, I'd take Crabtree. I just think that Raji would be an instant starter that would have more of an overall effect on our team.

By Mark Gaughan NEWS SPORTS REPORTER

INDIANAPOLIS—Don’t expect cornerback Jabari Greer or linebacker Angelo Crowell back with the Buffalo Bills next season.

Those are two of the team’s veteran players set to hit the free agent market. NFL sources said both are expected to sign with other teams once the free-agency shopping season starts on Friday.

    The news is no surprise.

Greer, who started 13 games for the Bills in 2007 and 10 in 2008, is poised to strike it rich on the market. Cornerback has been one of the highest priority positions in free agency in recent years and salaries at the position have skyrocketed.

Indianapolis this week signed cornerback Kelvin Hayden to an $8 million-a-year deal.

It’s believed the Bills have made a substantial offer to Greer. However, Greer has been waiting five years for the chance to be an unrestricted free agent. Given the demand for cornerbacks, Greer can’t afford to not see what offers are out there for him.

Greer missed the last six games of the Bills season with a sprained knee but is healthy now.

Russ Brandon, Bills chief operating officer, had this to say about Greer on Friday:

“I think Jabari knows how we feel about him. We’ve been in constant communication with his representatives as well. We’d love to have Jabari back in the mix. We’ll do everything within our power to have him in the mix. He certainly knows our feelings bout him.”

The Bills, however, are positioned to replace Greer since they drafted Leodis McKelvin with the 11th overall pick in last year’s draft.

Crowell has been with the Bills six seasons. He missed all of 2008 after being abruptly placed on the injured-reserve list days before the season opener. Crowell decided to have knee surgery after the final preseason game of the summer, and the Bills were not happy with the timing of the decision. Crowell subsequently had an extensive clean-up of the knee.

Crowell stated at the end of the season he would be open to returning to the Bills. However, league sources said he will draw some interest in the open market, and he is expected to start fresh with another organization.

  4. WR Crabtree

"Texas Tech wideout Michael Crabtree, who was listed by his school at 6-foot-3, measured nearly two inches below that at 6-1 3/8. That, by far, was the biggest differential in height of those measured over the last two days"

    http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/02/20/crabtree-d...ite-measure-up/

Seriously though, what is an 1-5/8"? It's nothing that we should be making a big deal out of saying it's causing his stock to drop or anything like that. The guy is GOOD. Period. Weight is an issue I'd be more worried about, like with Pettigrew who's costed himself if he shows a Lindale White esque work ethic.

  5. We could hope a good LT is still there at 11 and trade down with philly. Get both of their picks. Pettigrew and DHB. I'd cream my shorts.

 I think if we trade down it will be to go TE and LB or DE. Everyone on this board though seems to have their favorite players their throwing out there at every chance they get like you. My case is stated in my av for TE and I'd like to have Crabtree if we could get him.

  6. TAG and TRADE.

    Not TAG and retain.

Tag and trade? I think that we would get no offer better than a 4th for Greer, honestly. What if no one takes the bait and offers us a decent package? We'd be stuck. He's really not talked of as being that sought after around NFL circles. When they were talking about all of the possible FA CB's that other teams were looking to strike a deal with, how mant times did you hear Greer's name? I, for one, didn't ever hear it mentioned in the same breeath as Hayden, Asomugha, Johnson, Robinson, Foxworth, Bartell, McFadden, Buchanon, Hall, or Hanson. He's not an elite CB that is going to garner that much attention. He's a servicable guy, at best, that has played well for us the last couple of seasons.

  7. This is the first combine at Lucas Oil Field correct?

So, we can assume but don't know for sure, how fast the track is relative to the Hoosier Dome. Should be interesting.

I'm most interested with Brandon Pettigrew's 40 time because:

he's rumored to be under consideration by our beloved's

he's gained 6 pounds since the Senior Bowl

there are concerns about his ability to separate from coverage and stretch the deep middle.

After that I'm most interested in the 40 times for the DE's Brown, Orakpo, and Maybin.

I saw in his interview where he said that people are questioning his speed and he wants to go out and run a 4.4 40. THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Watching the guy on game film, I'll be surprised if he runs anything better than the mid to high 4.7's in the 40. He just doesn't look that fast to me, at all. He also doesn't look to have the same kind of separation skills and burst out of his cuts as Gresham. He's got a big body that he knows how to use to shield off defenders and good hands, but he is NOT WORTHY of the #11 pick IMO.

  8. He isn't worth it, eh? Like we have a lot of better players.

Here's what a real team does to keep valuable players around: Please read it

PITTSBURGH (AP)—Offensive tackle Max Starks was designated as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ franchise player on Thursday, the second successive year they have retained the two-time Super Bowl starter by placing a tag on him.

Starks made $6.9 million last year as a transition player, although he didn’t begin the season as a starter. He ended up starting 11 games at left tackle after Marvel Smith was injured.

“We were happy we had Max Starks available to us when he was needed,” Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert said. “We were fortunate that he was still here because he gave us an experienced guy who had played as a starter in the playoffs and in the Super Bowl.”

Starks was the Steelers’ right tackle when they won the Super Bowl during the 2005 season.

By being designated as a franchise player, Starks will make $15.35 million over the 2008 and 2009 seasons, unless he agrees to a long-term deal— considerable money for Pittsburgh to pay a player who didn’t make their lineup at the start of last season.

Starks must make $8.451 million in 2009, the average of the NFL’s top five offensive linemen last season.

Another team could sign Starks because he is designated as non-exclusive, but that team would owe the Steelers a pair of first-round draft picks.

$9,957,000 is how much the franchise # was for a CB. You mean to tell me that you want to commit right at $10,000,000 of our cap dollars to a guy who will be playing NCB unless some one gets hurt and not use that money elsewhere, namely a big time player who's going to change the dynamic of our team like Haynesworth. That is entirely too much money to commit to a guy like Greer. CB is probably our best and deepest position on our team with McKelvin, McGee, Corner, and Youboty. Does Greer fit in to the mix with those guys and help our team? Yes. Is what he brings to our team worth $10,000,000 in cap space? NO.

  9. I gotta go with my favorite WR in this draft Darrius Heyward-Bey. I'll go so far as to say he runs a 4.26. then Harvin 4.30

If DHB is as big as advertised (Crabtree shrunk 2"!!!!) he may go no1 wr if he runs well into the 4.2s. Al Davis bait.

I'd love to have DHB here. if he is 6'3, can jump as advertised, and runs even a 4.3 flat he'd be a sick no 2/ no1. WR

DHB is fast and so is Harvin, but don't be surprised if Maclin puts up the fastest time in the 40. That's who I'd put my money on. I don't see anyone running a 4.26 40-yard dash. That would be insane. I say Maclin runs a 4.29 or a 4.30, DHB runs a 4.34, and Harvin a 4.32 40. Any way you look at it, all three of those guys can flat out get it on the football field.

  10. so what is stopping us from keeping Greer around? He's a good corner, maybe not worth a top ten price, but what the hell, for a year, give him some money and see how things work out. Maybe McKelvin will be great, maybe McGee will go downhll. Who knows? Every other team except Miami seems to be tagging somebody. Doesn't that make you think it might be a plan?

I like Jabari Greer and we have the cap room. Plus, there is nobody else worth franchising on this sad sack of a team.

Would it make too much sense for our braintrust to get off their asses?

Why haven't we tagged Greer? Simple, he's not worth it.

  11. 1- Yes. That formula of signing big-name, older free agents has been an automatic road to success. Oops, sorry, the Redskins have signed about 30 ex all-pros, and as of last year, not one has been to the pro bowl after signing. Sorry, I did not check this year. 2- And second round draft picks almost always make the pro bowl team, well, at least, some. sometimes start.

As mundane as it is, the difference maker is usually how a 2nd, 3rd or 4th year pro develop. See Pittsburgh Steelers. Look for the teams with the guys this age that are ready to make the leap to pro bowl status.

1- The Redskins never had a REAL QB that they picked up in FA or by trade that is anywhere near the level of Warner. You think that Brunell is anywhere near the QB that Warner is? Seriously? All of the other FA they brought in were obviously on the downturn. Bruce, Deion, Shawn Springs, Brunell, Jason Taylor, all of them minus Fletcher.

2- I was talking about a WR that would serve as the #4 for Warner when they would use the "spread shotgun" or "single back" formations. They already have Sidney Rice and Bernard Berrian. If they got Housh I'd imagine that Berrian and Rice would alternate in the slot with a young player like Britt or Iglesias being the #4 WR. They both are very capable of making plays just like anyone else, especially with a guy like Warner at the helm who knows how to get them the ball where they can do the most with it. Look at Steve Breaston from this past season. He was a product of Kurt Warner and the offensive scheme of Haley, nothing more.

  12. http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/02/20/...2009-but-where/

Can you imagine if the Vikes landed Kurt Warner, a WR like Housh in FA, and picked up a WR like Kenny Britt or Juaquin Iglesias in the second round of the draft? They'd be instant SB contenders to come out of the NFC for certain. They've had a stout defense for 3 years now. If they got all this help for Peterson and Taylor? Man, they'd be just about unstoppable. Warner, Housh, Britt/Iglesias, Berrian, Rice, Peterson, Taylor, their OL, and that defense? Wow.

  13. I would pay him whatever he wants. Seriously.

I also cannot fathom how the Titans are letting him test the market. He's going to be gone within hours of the opening of FA.

Just like Nate Clements was a couple of years ago. I hope I'm watching ESPN and here this, "We have breaking news coming in from the NFL at this hour. John Clayton is reporting that Albert Haynesworth, the bohemoth DT from the Tennessee Titans, has signed a FA deal with the Buffalo Bills. The terms are not yet disclosed, but he is now officially off the market. We suspect he is now the highest paid DL in the NFL. We'll give more details as we get them."

  14. The other day, most of us sounded off on the Guy on Billszone who claimed he has an inside source at one bills drive that gave him the scoop on our team's offseason plans. I plan on holding this guy accountable. I'm going to go down his checklist throughout this offseason to see how many he gets right. Should be fun. My favorite is when he said we were going to make Albert Haynesworth the highest paid player in the league.

Here's a reminder of the Bills zone Nostradamus guy:

    1. The Bills number one target in free agency is Albert Haynesworth.

    2. The Bills second target is Jeff Saturday.

    3. Peters isn't going anywhere. He didnt play at the end of last season because he really was hurt...nothing to do with contract issues.

4.The scouts really like Rey Maualuga and dont be suprised if hes our first round pick and we move Posluszny to the outside.

5.Bo Scafie is on the radar of the Bills as well. So is Owen Daniels but he is an RFA and looks to be a pipe dream.

    6. No Chance we re-sign Jabari Greer.

    7. The Bills are either going to go LB round 1 and DE round 2 (They like the kid from UCONN) or DE round 1 LB round 2.

    8. Chris Simms is going to be brought in as our back up QB most likely.

    9. Mark Sanchez picked 1 overall to the Lions

We'll see if Ralph even brings them, #1 and #2, in for a visit. Rey will never happen. Peters might get re-signed, but it's only if he shows up for the offseason workout programs and is in camp on time. Scaife got franchised and we're not ponying up our #1 for Daniels. Jabari is likely gone in light of recent re-signings and franchise designations. If we go LB in round one it will be Cushing. Simms? Maybe. Sanchez going #1? Maybe.

  15. One of the practical consequences of the blurb posted earlier tonight regarding the Saints’ intention not to re-sign linebacker Jonathan Vilma until he hits the market next Friday

It saves the Saints 1st round pick from going to the Giants. Could he play the ROLB spot on our defense? I don't think the staff is ready to try to move Posluszny to the outside, even though he would probably be more effective there. Vilma has traditionally played the MLB position, but would be brought in to play the OLB spot. Would he welcome the change and would he even consider the Bills as a destination?

  16. Everyone on this board knows I'm not a Trent lover but I would rather have him QB the Bills for the next 3 or 4 years than make this trade.

Oh no. I had called Trent "TrINT" for months, but I wold rather have him than give up that much for Cassell as well. God knows I wwould be terribly disappointed if this took place. We, AGAIN, would be helping the Pats* situation this year and setting them up for success in the future. By the way, HAVEN'T WE LEARNED FROM OUR PREVIOUS TRADES FOR PATRIOTS PLAYERS YET?!?!?!?!?! I mean Milloy, Bledsoe, and now maybe Cassell? The Patriots would keep him if they thought he would hurt them somewhere else, especially keep him out of the AFC East.
