Minny plays in Buffalo on March 9. Should be a good game. I'm disappointed the Sabres don't get a chance to play Anaheim nor SJ in the regular season. Either would be one heck of a game.

Carolina at Buffalo tonight, HSBC Arena
Taro T replied to smokinandjokin's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Really? I'm assuming you are referring to Roy. Weren't Thompson, Brimsek (1 more after the 1st), Durnan (1 more after the 1st), McCool, Plante (split time with McNeil and had best GAA in playoffs followed up by 5 consecutive), and Dryden (5 more after the 1st) rookies when they won the Stanley Cup? I'm certain I am forgetting a few, but its late and I'm tired. BTW, the REAL reason the Canes won the Stanley Cup is they were good and extremely lucky. If Williams doesn't gouge Koivu's eye (and somehow not get called for it either) they don't get past your beloved Habs. -

Well if you REALLY try hard. But it's rare for those from capitol hill to be able to do so so succinctly. -
Romeo and Juliet and Amos 'n' Andy each have A slot on this list? Couldn't the Flintstones have been #4?

I had every intention of heading over but the basement was flooding a bit in the morning and when I finally got that under control, I got a nail in my tire. Only took 1 hour and 45 minutes for the guys at BJ's to figure out how much the replacement tire (using the road hazard warranty) would cost. Just not my day.

Wow, his aides got that form letter out quickly. You'd never guess that he's running for reelection this year. Of course, the fact that the aides didn't READ your letter isn't terribly surprising either.

I'm sure it won't sound anything at all like Arthur Carlson's challenger: I have a plan that is simple yet complex and I feel strongly both ways.

Anyone see this insane contract?
Taro T replied to daquixers_is_back's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The league did "let" the Devils out of the Mogilny contract when their doctor agreed with the Devils' doctors that Mogilny can no longer play hockey. I have a gut feel that the NHLPA will be singing the blues over that one come June or July or whenever the final accounting #'s come in. Mogilny's $3.5MM or so will be that much more that the players' total salary ends up exceeding their 54% of the pie and will be another ~$100k that every roster will lose from their withheld escrow. -
Only if the quarterback only had 2 children. I think if he has 3 kids it becomes a 300% correlation, with a 49% correlation between the kids assuming they all have the same mother. I'm not sure what happens when they have different mothers. That must be where the 28% of environmental factors CAUSE the lack of correlation. Them #'s are tricky buggers.

Wow, less than 5 months and 500 words to say absolutely nothing. That has to be close to a congresscritter record. -
No, it didn't (insert CTM/BJ invective here). The '76-'77 Canadiens ended the season 60-8-12 for 132 points. BTW, they came from behind against Washington in the last game of the season to get their 60th win. They also went 12-2 in the playoffs sweeping their 1st round and the Finals. Detroit did get 62 wins (in 82 games) but only ended up with 131 points. 13 of their 20 non-wins were losses. I thought that even in Quebec that 132 was greater than 131. Maybe I was wrong.

You referring to the team that only lost 13 in the regular season, but then lost 9 in the post season while getting thumped by the Colorado Nordiques? The same team that needed a double overtime Game 7 win just to sneak past a team that finished more than 50 points behind it in the standings? Yeah, that team was "great".

The abominable snot smear is selling currently because of a few things: 1. People haven't bought much Sabres merchandise the last 2 seasons because of the lockout and then the announcement that b&g was coming soon. 2. There is a definite"buzz" about the Sabres that has been going since last December. When you have more talk on WGR about the Sabres logo and arbitration on the opening day of Bills camp, you know you have got something going. 3. People want to share in the excitement of the team. They've already sold more tickets than they sold all last season. Some people are sharing the excitement by going to the games, others by buying merchandise. 4. You can't buy the new 3rd sweaters. If you could, they would be outselling the abominable snot smear. The new blue uni is decent minus the logo. I'm not a fan of the white one, but apparently some are. I find it almost impossible to believe though, having seen the 2 blues in person and on TV that the majority of people buying stuff now would choose the abominable snot smear if given the choice between the 2. 5. Even if you could buy the new 3rd sweaters, Larry Quinn is on record as saying they will be a darker shade of blue in the near future. Just as people held off on buying r&b merchandise last year because they wanted b&g, some people when they finally can buy the new 3rds will hold off waiting for the "real" ones coming out next year. As much merchandise as the Sabres will sell with the abominable snot smear on it, having come out with GOOD uniforms and GOOD logos would have resulted in FAR MORE sales than they will get with this abomination. Every single media outlet, other than WGR, that I have seen and every single hockey fan site (not Sabre specific) that I have seen thinks the old unis are "timeless" or "classic" and ridicule the abominable snot smear. The Sabres will sell merchandise this year. Had they not put such an abortion on their sweaters, they could have sold a lot more.

It sure looked that way the last 40 minutes. Although R.E(t)sche did have one heck of a 1st 20 minutes and he was completely hung out to dry by his teammates after that.

Kind of surprised you had a bad experience picking up your food at the Phoenix. Before having kids, the wife and I used to eat there a lot and since we still get takeout from there on a regular basis. The owner and his wife are usually working the door and the phone, so I'm not sure why a kid was working the phone / counter. The service when you eat there is usually very good and they typically give you a complementary shot of apple brandy at the end of the meal. Next time you go there, be sure to ask for the "stamp". They will give you a booklet that you can fill up with tags from your meals. Once you've had 12 (?) meals there, you can turn the book in for a discount off your next meal (IIRC, the discount is 10% of what your total $ value of the meals you ate). I agree with you that Pataya's is excellent for Thai food. I prefer it to The King & I because Pataya's uses the thinner hotter Thai sauces and TK&I makes the creamier sauces. PF Chang's is good when someone else is paying, but I find it pricey for what you get. BTW, for a good "Buffalo style" pizza, try J&L's on Hogan near Rte 31 (~1/4 mile west of Golden Phoenix). -

What are the personal top Places...
Taro T replied to BoondckCL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The best I've been to: Rich Stadium (for obvious reasons) The Aud (ditto) The (Montreal) Forum (great atmosphere) Staples Center (LA, surprisingly loud fans for a hockey game) M&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore, real nice stadium) Make Us Laugh Gardens (again, great atmosphere) Tiger Stadium (Baton Rouge) (ditto) Michigan International Speedway (you can see the entire track from the grandstand and bring in as many coolers of beer as you want) Watkins Glen (cool road course) Giants Stadium (very similar to Rich Stadium) The Mmarena (she's growing on me) Happy Valley (small seating space on bleachers per person, but great atmosphere) University of Texas football field (forget it's name; kind of a dump, but good atmosphere) Walker Arena (where else could you sit on a rail to watch a game?) The rest: Boston Garden (sit behind one of the columns and you'll understand; that and lousy beer stands) Fenway Park (dump and lousy beer stands) Schaefer Stadium (I've been to high school football fields that were nicer) The Astrodome (just something wrong about watching baseball indoors) Exhibition Stadium (Toronto, nothing special) Riverfront Stadium The Summit (Houston) The Metrodome (bad memories) The Rosebowl (bowl rises at too low a slope, seats end up far from field & bad memories) The Superdome (too big, seats are VERY far from the field) The Rockpile Pilot Field Arlington Stadium Olympic Stadium (went there when the roof wouldn't go back up) I'm sure I'm missing a few, but that covers most of them. -
Considering how much a healthy Spikes would bring to this defense, I'd rather have him sit one more week rather than risk reinjuring it against the Lions.

That's a darn shame for Alec. If he'd have moved to France like he promised he wouldn't have this sort of inconvenience in his life.

No, no, no. It is the abominable snot smear. And it was posted on TSR a month or so ago that the team petitioned the league to wear the "throwback" sweaters in the playoffs, so when the Sabres win it all this year, if they have the good taste to win it at home, the unis Perreault, Crozier (well if they had shoulder patches when he played), and Gare wore will be drenched in champagne flowing from a very large silver chalice.

This one is one of only 6 "gold" games this year. One of the other Hab games is "gold" and all 4 Loaf games are. Which makes sense. The Loaf games will sell out at pretty much any price and the Habs are usually a pretty good sell as well.

Darn near a perfect post. Well said.

LSU does a great job of tailgating, but I still think Buffalo tops them.
