Diggs had one real issue…his obsession with winning.  I think his desire to win and how he wears it on his sleeve gets misunderstood greatly with Diggs.  He is not the Diva “me first” WR who cares more about his stats than winning that some fans and media try and make him out to be.

The real issue with Diggs is quite simple.  He knows he is on the back part of his career and his window for a Super Bowl is closing fast as a player.  And he has lost faith that Buffalo can get over the hump before he is done.

I have no doubt he genuinely loved his time in Buffalo in terms of the fans, experience, his teammates, etc.  But I also have no doubt he sees the team in a mini rebuild mode and he had no desire to risk his last couple years of being at the top of his game on a team looking at the potential of taking a step back with this much roster turnover this season when it was already not a team getting over the hump to begin with.

I won’t say he is in “Decline”, I mean even with lower stats back half of last year, plenty of time he was wide open and beating his man and Josh missed the throw or had just gone elsewhere.  His stats didn’t go down because he wasn’t getting open, they went down because we ran more and spread the ball around more.  But Father Time is undefeated, so there may be a slight decline or one coming soon, but I think Diggs is still a good WR1 right now with still some of the best feet and routes in the game.

So I think he is a legend of the game player in the future, I think it should be more a “mutual parting of the ways” scenario rather than a bitter split.  Not sure he makes it into the Bills Wall of Famer category only being here 4 years and not finishing his career here or winning a SB, but also wouldn’t rule it out either.

No hard feelings from me, more of a I think it’s good for both sides scenario in my mind.  Diggs gets his move to an ascending team and Bills have no more Diggs questions all season and Allen can spread the ball around which is what he does when he is at his best.

I can’t wait though for Allen to remind Diggs that Allen “Is him.” when we beat them when we face them this season.

    100%

    Thank you.

This over the top besmirching of Diggs after he leaves by the Mafia has been pathetic. Really reminds me that the fanbase peaked in 2021 as well. Since then we've become nothing but over-entitled, miserable pricks. We can go on a 6 game win streak and have the most miserable time.\

I'm with you. The team didnt accomplish enough for him to get on the Wall of Fame in just 4 short years. But he absolutely should be a legend who is welcomed back in Buffalo any and every time.

I wish him well (expect when we play him). Onward and Upward.

Right on time for the annual stories to leak out in the hopes that a top prospect might fall in the draft. Beane must really want Nabers something fierce. 😂

Haha I thought that too. But to think any of these Big 3 WRs arent going to be divas in their own right soon enough is just naive.

The Stephen A. Smith-ization of sports tv shows is why I don’t watch them anymore.  Who sits and watches two guys yelling at each other about things that dont even matter in life?

I only do this for PTI which is the one and only "duo-ing talking heads" show that is needed. Everyone else can gtfo.

edit: Just watched the clip in the OP. That was the most obnoxious 1min13sec I've ever seen out of this duo. The talking over each other while arguing nothing. Are they not in the same room? Seemed like both of them could use a vacation. Awkward at the end.

Looks like Florio and Simms have a worse relationship than Josh and Diggs ever had!

That’s way too much for me.  The Bills are in a rebuild that will take 2 off-seasons to complete.  Giving up all of those picks for 1 player will delay that rebuild further and certainly doesn’t make this team a championship contender this year.

Yeah I dont disagree. And I dont think it will happen either. But it's fun to come up with the possibilities and post about in April.

Let's look at Top 15 WRs in the last handful of years.

    2017

    #5 - Corey Davis

    #7 - Mike Williams

    #9 - John Ross

    2018

    None

    2019

    None

    2020

    #12 Henry Riggs

    #15 Jerry Jeudy

    2021

    #5 Ja'Maar Chase (#1 WR)

    #6 Jaylen Waddle

    #10 DeVonta Smith

    2022

    #8 Drake London

    #10 Garret Wilson (#1 WR)

    #11 Chris Olave

    #12 Jameson Williams

    2023

    None

It's not that impressive of a list.

How many true #1s are on this list? 2?

2 in 7 years. Olave is fringe. Waddle is #2 to Hill, Smith is #2 to AJ Brown, and Mike Williams was #2 to Keenan Allen.

You never know what's gonna happen.

Name the QBs all those guys went to.

I could find a way to excuse his pathetic lack of effort when the play wasn't going his way.  Claiming it didn't matter,, though it irritated me and was a bad look.  In part excused in my mind by his yet to be disclosed injury.

But what about all the times Diggs took himself out on those 3rd downs?

Even with my made up injury for Diggs I couldn't come up with a rational explanation for those.  IF he was playing hurt why wouldn't he have timed it so he was in on 3rd downs.  That's inexcusable in my mind.  Brady had to want him out.

Ah yes, the infamous "3rd down" game against the Eagles.

    Broadcast Bias.

He played 87 out of 95 snaps in that game. He took some breathers. A couple of them were on 3rd down, and they happen to be when Nantz noticed and pointed out he wasnt on the field. It actually only happened like twice.

Time it? He doesnt know what plays Brady is calling ahead of time. Or if the 2nd down play is going to pick up the 1st or not.

Look, I'm not going to argue every gripe against the guy. I just think it's a bit ridiculous and unfair (and a bad look for the Mafia) to have fans bashing him on his way out like he had anything but an overall positive contribution to the team the entire time he was here. Ups and downs, sure.

The Bills had Stef Diggs from 2020 to 2024 and he directly made them much better during that entire time.

he’s not gone because he didn’t get along with the boss….

So he's gone due to performance, and all the sideline/off field/twitter stuff you mentioned really didnt matter? Which is it?

He wanted to win, no doubt about that. But I won't miss the way he dove to the ground or ran out of bounds, leaving valuable yardage on the table, just to avoid a hit. I understand wanting to make your career last, but I expect a fierce competitor to fight for yards.

He fought for yards PLENTY of times. Any time it mattered. Close to getting a 1st down, or fighting through 5 tackles to break away for a TD like against Miami last year.

When you already have the 1st down and a Safety is bearing down on you, better to get down, control the contact, and live to fight another day.

No at 31-32 he will get a 1 maybe 2 year deal. Those deals go to 25-28 year old guys on the upswing.. with limited drama.

He walked away from a two year deal with the Bills to a one year deal with the Texans. So he’s betting he will make at least that much in yr 2 somewhere. Could be, but I don’t think so.

Those years/that money doesnt really exist if it isnt guaranteed. Teams know this. Diggs knows this. Now he doesnt have to wait around to be released. He can hit the ground running as a FA. Probably wont get that much, but he also knows he wasnt going to see those years with the Bills or Texans either.

Agreed it will be tough for him to find that same amount of salary. But the big thing for Diggs is he gets to be in complete control of his destiny for the first time in his career. If he wants to take less to play with a certain team, he can. Trying to get a trade offer finally doesnt play a factor.

remember when then helmet throwing, the sideline berating of his QB, the pulling himself out of games ands the camp drama were all packaged under "hey he's just super competitive and everything!!--I'll take a team of Diggs's!!"

yeah, good times....a thousand posts just evaporated with his unceremonious exit.

Nah, I still wouldve taken a lot more Diggses...es on the 2020-2022 Bills. He was great while he was here, until he wasnt. All that stuff doesnt change that. He just didnt get along with the boss in the long run.

I’m sure he will just sign with them after 1 year with the Texans. It’s like Brett Favre and the Vikings.

Ha! I think Dallas makes a lot more sense, but anything is possible.

This - and it’s likely where he wanted to go. More and more agents are making an effort to direct their players to preferred destinations. Everyone knows how Diggs would act if he had been traded to any team that wasn’t a contender so his trade value was nil to those teams. I’m sure he had a very short list of acceptable teams and the Texans were the one that got the deal done.

Sounds like it was on Diggs and his agent to bring the Bills an acceptable offer and he got to choose which team.

    All good points.

The bolded is a scenario i've thought about probably a thousand times already......Minny did it before, would they do it again?

I, for one, would love to have JJ on this team, however, seeing the way Beane is, he is probably done with high WR's from other teams and will probably want to get his in the draft this year, but just not where everyone thinks.......my gut feeling

The difference now is the Vikings arent paying a QB a ton of money, and are looking to draft one. So that money is going to go to Jefferson, and they'll have the QB on a rookie contract.

The Vikings are interesting tho, because is they move up to #5 to get a QB then I think the Bills could swing a deal with the Giants to get to #6 and grab Nabers.

NEVER trade up for a wide receiver unless you have absolutely unmatched levels of conviction that he's gonna be a superstar. What have we seen in past drafts to suggest that NFL GM's are particularly skilled at properly rating receivers?

2023 WRs drafted in order: Smith-Njigba, Quentin Johnson, Zay Flowers, Jordan Addison.

2022 (in order): Drake London, Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jameson Williams, Jahan Dotson, Treylon Burks

2021 (in order): Henry Ruggs, Jerry Jeudy, Ceedee Lamb, Jalen Reagor, Justin Jefferson, Brandon Aiyuk

2020 (in order): Jamarr Chase, Jaylen Waddle, Davonta Smith, Kadarius Toney, Rashod Bateman

A few years prior, we saw Corey Davis, Mike Williams and John Ross all go top 10 in the draft. The year prior, Round 1 WRs consisted of Corey Coleman, Will Fuller, Josh Doctson, Laquan Treadwell.

Kevin White was a semi recent top 10 WR.

The Bills took Sammy Watkins fourth overall in 2014.

I would obviously much rather draft 8th or 18th than 28th. But spending draft capital to move into those spots - which merely earns you the opportunity to guess wrong at extra cost - when you have a reasonable chance of getting someone just as good if not better later in the draft at no additional risk - doesn't seem like the correct move. Especially with a roster that could benefit from building depth at other positions.

To me, this list mostly illustrates that QBs make the WR draft picks.

The ones who made it were the ones with the good/great QBs. The busts are a lot of Cleveland, Atlanta, Jets...

With Josh at QB, whatever we invest in getting him better WR talent will see greater returns.

  14. If the Vikings convince the Chargers to trade out of #5 (and the Chargers should be easily convinced), then the Bills should pull the trigger on trading up with the Giants to 6 and get Nabers. All for it.

Giants should be into it since it gives them another 1st for next year when they will be in the QB market after they get out of Jones contract at the end of this season.

    You answered your own question.

Due to Diggs malcontent behavior, it was a market where the buyers had control. Maybe the Texans were the only takers.

His behavior was the least of it. He's a 31 (going to be 32) year old WR with a big contract on the downslide of his career. Compared to what other teams got in trade for their WRs, we did well. If an NFC team was offering a 4th, like what the Chargers got for Allen, then I'll take the 2nd in-Conference.
