1. WM starting? Okay, fine, whatever. But let's see... trading TH would leave McGahee, Joe Burns, and Shaud Williams as the only tailbacks on the roster.

Anyone else think this isn't such a good idea? Anyone watching what's going on with Mijami's RB-of-the-week search, or Minnesota having to start the #4 guy on their depth chart last week?

    70095

Depending upon what we get, I could be OK with this. I know that we Will NOT get a #1 for him, but TD likes to move up on draft day, and an extra pick could help him do so.

Remember, we are 0-4 and worried about playing the most depleted team in the NFL. We are able to lose with or without Travis Henry, and he certainly has not been of much use this year.

  2. I wouldn't like it if we traded Moulds, but I bet we could swing a trade and get a first round pick for him.  As far as Jerry Rice is concerned, I won't be suprised if he ends up in New England if he does get traded.

    69954

Imo, Eric would be tough to trade. As cp posted, he is under contract to earn approx 11.5 million in 05 and 06. I dont think that too many teams would pay this money to an aging wideout.

I would like to see a renegotiation, but it is a safe bet that Eric will not play in Buffalo in 05 with his current contract.

  3. It is pretty amazing Mick The scenario goes as follows....

    1. Hag marries billionaire.

    2. Billionaire croaks. Hag gets cash.

    3. Flip Flop wins a senate seat in wacko state and votes for trillions of dollars of tax increases.

    4. Married Flip-Flop gets a divorce and marries billionaire Hag.

    5. Flip Flop continues to vote for tax increases.

    6. Flip Flop votes against 1st Iraq war.

    7) Flip-Flop votes FOR current Iraq war.

    8) Flip Flop is against current Iraq war.

    9) Flip Flop, after a $10,000.00 haircut, tells us he is for the "middle class."

    10) Flip Flop now has a "plan."

And close to half of this country is either so stupid, brainwashed, naive or consumed by hate that they will vote for Flip Flop.

    Simply incredible.

  4. No he is worth at late 2nd to early 3rd round pick.  His value has not increased or decreased much becuase of the 4 games.  Just remember Faulk only went for a 3rd and a 5th.  Dillon a 2nd, and these guys are much better runners, plus do the other things a lot better than Travis ever will.

    69586

A late second or early 3rd could be possible because his salary is low. I am thinking that high salaries may have hurt the value of those you mentioned who are in fact clearly superior to Henry.

Also, rbs are usually not so hard to get. Terrell Davis was a sixth round pick. I am sure they may exist, but I dont know of teams who are using a sixth round LT. If so, my compliments to the GM.

  5. No team will most likely trade away a pass rusher who produces or an Olineman who can actually block. So let's be honest with ourselves. Travis Henry is traded for a 2nd round pick or nothing happens at all. Maybe a 2nd and a teams 3rd string RB.

    68974

And that is if we are very lucky.

  6. No, I don't think there is any doubt about this.  In fact, during the off-season before the draft when everyone was arguing about who was better and who who we should draft, I was rooting for McKinnie.  I remember heated arguments somewhere in ICE's many McWhatever posts.

That said, I stand by my memory of MOST pro's that I read (Kiper for example) placing big Mike above McKinnie on their draft sheets.

At the time of the draft (not now looking back on things), whichever player TD chose should have been a great pick.  TD has no control on what the players do after that.  That is why I don't understand why people keep bringing up MW as a TD failure.  It's a MW failure.  Be pissed at him!

    68960

Wow. My compliments on your memory! Most of those "McWhatever" posts were directed at me. My sig in those days was "Draft McKinnie."

TD went for an overweight RT, instead of a stud LT. Big Mike was already fat. The Buffalo Bills will suffer the consequences of this blunder for years to come with the salary cap.

    Sorry, I blame TD.

  7. Thanks.....I got a little ticked at being called an idiot as I am a true bills fan, long time board memeber and an above average fan in terms of sports knowledge, IMO... now the the reason I even posted the rumor is that it is not that far out of reality and here is why:

    1) We are 0-4. Many feel Travis will be traded if Willis gets back to form. Why not now and let Willis cut his teeth..again if healthy...

    2) If we suck as bad as many here think (I disagree there), Travis will only decrease his trade value by year end..

    3) TD was quoted today saying WM has shown signs he is close to his old self in practice the past few weeks.

    4) Somthing needs to give....maybe we get a good OL, draft choice, etc...

    5) Cutting Shaw out of nowhere can be a pre-curser...did that not free up additional cap space?

    6) If nothing else it gives we Bills fans something to discuss......

And if anyone thinks I'm an idiot for posting this please exercise your rights on this board to disregard...and if you want to insult me please kiss my ass....

    68936

PJ, I dont think that you are an idiot. I must also point out that VERY few teams are ever willing to trade away a good offensive lineman. If you disagree, please point to examples of teams that have done so.

I appreciate the premise of your post as well as the Bills dialogue, but trades for offensive linemen are SO rare, a draft pick would suit me just fine.

  8. What I don't get is how people can blast TD about Mike Williams.  Is it his fault the guy isn't playing to his potential?  When he was drafted, he was considered the best Tackle available by almost all the scouts I remember.  McKinnie was right there with him, but most agreed MW had more upside.

Everyone bitched and complained that we never used our 1st rounders on lineman, and then TD drafts the best one available.  He isn't a damn fortune teller!

I put Josh Reed in this category as well.  In his first year here he did very well for a rookie.  For some reason since then his hands have turned to stone.  For this I blame Reed, not TD.

Now, I will agree that his drafts have been sub-par, and in some cases downright bad.  He also doesn't seem to have much of a clue about finding talent in late rounds, but he has drafted some good talent that is starting on this team right now.  Hell, even Butler, the drafting guru, had some really bad draft classes.

    68919

    >>>He isn't a damn fortune teller!<<<

No sir, nor would I expect him to be, but McKinnie is a LT. They are much harder to find than RTs. In fact, many prominent players who play left tackle in college are not capable of doing so in the NFL, and wind up as Guards or RTs.

McKinnie did NOT allow a sack in his entire college stint at Miami. He went against Freeney while he was at Syracuse, and gave up ZERO sacks, tackles and assists! Although some say he had a slow start (which may very well be true), McKinnie is now just kicking ass at LT for the vikes, while Williams is overweight and under-achieving.

To make a long story short, do you think that the vikes would give us McKinnie for Big (Fat) Mike? Would any GM on any team rather have Big Mike than McKinnie?

    Of course not.

Is there any doubt about this?

  9. Ralph Wilson said screw the so called "smashmouth".  I am a huge Travis Henry fan, but I think something might be brewing. Ralph wants it aired out now. Just don't know who will do the blocking.... Maybe they can throw in Jonas Jennings and get Mike Alstot. Before anyone goes too nuts I just want to see some reaction from the board- we are 0-4 for christ sakes.

    68924

I would prefer a draft pick, but it is great to see another poster act as if Travis is Not this top 5 rb. He isn't.

PS: As Badolbilz has pointed out, Travis is not a smashmouth back. Bettis is/was. Henry is more of a slasher.

  10. The thing that seems odd is that this does not seem to be about an "incident" with either the coaches or other players.  The players seemed surprised, so maybe that discounts my first thought which was that he was cut for missing meetings or poor attention to certain duties (i.e., route running, reads, etc.).  I considered that maybe we were signing a free agent, but then I hear that Haddad is being elevated to the practice squad.

Overall, the timing of this is a mystery.  Must be more to the story to be cut this way.

    68865

Tough to truly know how surprised a player is, nor how much it matters. I could not expect a player to state, "Good, he sucked."

Dancing while losing, dropping passes and getting clonked in the head does go far toward getting cut, right?

  11. I am not sure that I agree that this is a splendid move.  Maybe Shaw should have been cut in preseason, but I am not sure that he deserved to be embarassed in this fashion.  Maybe he did something to deserve this treatment and, if so, I would like to know what it was.

In terms of the cap, I assume he could have been cut in the offseason with the same effects in terms of savings for next season.

I can only guess that TD and MM are trying to send a message.  I have to wonder whether this move will help morale or anything else.

    68836

Very good point, but GW seemed to be a bit too much of a "players' coach." Maybe this move came from MM specifically. Truthfully, that would be even better, don't you think?

  12. Moulds is signed through 2006. His cap numbers breakdown as follows:

2004: Salary $4.245 million, Amort bonus $2 million, Reporting bonus $1 million, workout bonus $100,000. Cap number is $7.345 million. He also has a $150,000 Pro Bowl bonus that is considered "NLTBE" because he didn't make the Pro Bowl last year.

2005: Salary $5.5 million, Amort bonus $2 million, reporting bonus $1 million, w/o bonus $100,000 which gives cap numbers of $8.6 million. It can increase to $8.775 million because he also has a PB bonus of $175,000. The $175,000 will count on the 2005 cap if he makes this years Pro Bowl

2006: Salary $6.045 million, amort bonus $2 million, reporting bonus $1 million, w/o bonus $100,000 for cap number of $9.145 million. Pro Bowl bonus of $200,000 would also count if he makes Pro Bowl after 2005 season

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

With the Bills facing a tight cap picture after this season, I fully suspect that Moulds will work out a cap friendlier deal but he certainly doesn't deserve a huge pay cut. Bills have about $2 million available in '04 to use for an extension for a player. I would like to see the Bills re-work Moulds contract NOW and use some of that money to get the future cap relief we will need.

I'll be highlighting this in my 2005 Cap Outlook article due out very soon at BZ

CP, thank you SO much for this info. There is no way to form an opinion without info like this.

Would you PLEASE provide similar info for Mike Williams?

  13. We can blast him about the draft as we wish (and the MW pick is as bad as one could imagine) and get really pissed, and then he will make a splendid move like he did today.

Nobody can make a case that Shaw was playing well. Now, TD just brought the team down several hundred thousand dollars toward the 05 cap.

We will not have to spend much on draft picks due to lack of a 1st, so this is gravy in terms of going after ufas. John Tait cost more than 30 million this year, right? Winstrom cost more than him. I am thrilled to see TD get cap room ready for next season by cutting a dancing a-hole. Imo, good GMs think this way. If Josh Reed's head stays inside of his a$$, he will be next. He can easily be replaced with a 3rd round pick, thus more cap savings.

TD is one slick dude. We are 0 and friggin 4 and he makes it tough for me to despise him.:huh:

PS: Again, I am hoping that MM was behind this move, and I am pretty sure that to a degree, he was.

  14. I have to agree here. Not stupid to get rid of him, but stupid to get rid of him without getting anything in return.

Of course, we probably don't know the whole story. Unless he did something bad (like missing meetings, screwing Donahoe's daughter, etc), I don't understand the reasoning behind it. Maybe we'll find out more from someone's inside sources.

    68709

TD: "Hello 31 GMs. I have a player available. He isn't young, and he sucks. He does the moonwalk after a 5 yard catch when the team is down 20 pts. Not only that, he will fumble away 2 point conversions (for the game), drop passes and sometimes gets hit in the head with them. What are you willing to give up?"

    GMs: "Have a nice day."

    It is that simple.

  15. Eagles.

Then they can pay him for that fumble that he had that blew the drive for us last year.

    See ya loser.

    68695

LOL!!! That was great. I would rather read this kind of post than one where a person is pissed about cutting John Fina, or some other truly bad player.

Btw, your sig does come from the Doors "Texas radio and the Big Beat," right?
