  1. I wanted to wait until the NFL.com released its Play-by-Play so that I could look at the trends I pointed out all game long on both message boards in that 1) We barely passed under center 2) We always run when under center and 3) We passed too much in shotgun on 1st down Buffalo Bills at 15:00 1-10-BUF 20 (15:00) 23-M.Lynch up the middle to BUF 27 for 7 yards (54-T.Bruschi, 50-M.Vrabel). 2-3-BUF 27 (14:24) (Shotgun) 5-T.Edwards pass incomplete short left to 81-J.Hardy. 3-3-BUF 27 (14:20) (Shotgun) 5-T.Edwards sacked at BUF 21 for -6 yards (93-R.Seymour). 4-9-BUF 21 (13:58) 8-B.Moorman punts 60 yards to NE 19, Center-72-R.Neill. 83-W.Welker to NE 29 for 10 yards (57-J.Corto). Buffalo Bills at 01:57 1-10-NE 14 (1:46) (Shotgun) 5-T.Edwards pass short right to 81-J.Hardy for 14 yards, TOUCHDOWN. 9-R.Lindell extra point is GOOD, Center-72-R.Neill, Holder-8-B.Moorman. I wanted to bold all the times we either passed on 1st down in the shotgun or in 3rd and less than 2 yards; I didn't point out obvious passing situations such as 3rd and long or 2 minute warning situations; I'll give them a pass for that. In the 1st half it was lets run on 1st down with base personell and then spread them out in shotgun on 2nd and 3rd. It seems in the second half they gave up on trying to establish anything; they just called plays and HOPED they worked! It was lets pass out of shotgun and if we complete a pass, lets run on 2nd and if that don't work lets go back to the shotgun again on 3rd (no matter the distance!). We only attempted THREE passes under center (one was a screen I think). We only attempted ONE shotgun draw ( if my memory is correct it is the 8 yard run by Lynch with 13:43 left in the 4th). We always run when we line up under center either with a 2TE singleback look or with FB/HB combo. Even the commentators were beginning to point this out (when they took time off annointing Belichek!) This has become a trend the past few games that has to end: passing almost exclusively from the shotgun or only running with base personell. THEY HAVE TO MIX IT UP TO KEEP THE D OFF BALANCE! This playcalling only works if you are the last year Patriots and your QB/WR's are so good that they can pick a D apart, build a substantial lead and then pound the D into submission; THIS WE ARE NOT! Why do you think Lynch and Freddie have such a hard time running the ball? They always face 8 man fronts as teams know when we are running as it is so obvious based on the personell group! Why not run from a 3 Wide set or at LEAST a copule of shotgun draws! And the few times we do pass with base personell it is always send the WRs deep and leave a checkdon option. Wonder why Lee has a hard time getting open? If we are always in shotgun with NO THREAT off a run with a QB with limited range, it is easy to double him and flood the intermediate zones. While the O-line has been much maligned, the pass blocking has done better than most give them credit as besides a few breakdowns, they have given Trent for the most part time to throw the past few games (now the run blocking has been HORRIBLE!) This team has to get back to basics and find a BALANCED offense to run as it has gotten too cute and fell in love with the shotgun on early downs. Face it: Trent is not Peyton Manning YET and even then at leats the Colts have a BALANCED scheme one in which they both PASS and RUN in similar sets and throw in playactions and similar plays to setup the D and keep them off balance; WE JUST CALL PLAYS and HOPE THEY WORK!
  2. This has made this offense SO predictable! Wonder why the running game struggles? You try to run with 8 men in the box! The reason why? The D knows that we rarely pass under center so that when the FB or 2nd TE comes in the game 99% of the time it is a run. We attempted ONE pass play under center that I can remember! And what is this love with passing on 1st down in shotgun 95% of the time? We rarely run any draws from the shotgun (we did once and it picked up 8 yards)! I mean on 3 different 3rd and 1 we lined up and passed in shotgun taking away any run options making the intentions obvious. This rookie Madden playcalling has got to end! This type playcalling only works if you are so dominant that you can tell the D this is what I am doing and we are so good and you can't stop us. Guess what: WE ARE NOT! We have to get an offensive identity and try to keep the D off balance. They have to find a personell grouping, whether it be 2 back, 3 WR, or 2 TE set, etc in which they feel comfortable both passing and running in which they use at least 60% of the time. No more of this obvious playcalling based on personell!
  3. I don't know; Scott is giving him a run for his money!
  4. Just like Whitner, a lot of guys dog Schoebel. He has been playing not a full strength the past 2 seasons and yet there has been a few games this seasons where he hasn't gotten sacks but has at least gotten pressure on the Qb. When I made the earlier statement, I said when all those players get FULLY healthy then we may go from having a good defense to a dominating one, especially if we release the dogs and start attacking offenses. We seem to play at our best when we are either blitzing, faking it, or using the standup D-line. We are at our worst when we rush 4 and play soft coverage with bend but don't break mentality! Once McGee and Youbouty get back at FULL strength, Fewell would have more confidence in his DBs and allow them to take more chances and play tighter coverage while pressuring the QB. Kawika and Poz are great blitzers; by not fully taking advantages of their strengths then we are not utilizing our D to its FULLEST potential!
  5. Why blame Whitner? He is a versatile, solid while not spectacular player who in his first 3 years was used more in a deep coverage role; not put in position to make plays. With that being said, I think the addition of Scott at SS and moving Whitner to FS will make the D more stiffeling once Schoebel, McGee, and Youbouty get back at full strength as Scott is a PLAYER! He has definitely has made way more plays than Whitner at SS the past 2 years when giving a chance to play. The fact that Whitner is versatile and more of a factor against the run than Ko Simpson would give an upgrade. If the DB's can get healthy and the D is unleashed and allowed to blitz more and take chances then watch out!
  6. Why blame Whitner? BOTTOM LINE: McGee was playing when he shouldn't have and as a result he was toasted as he played with too soft coverage that the Dolphins exploited. Combine that with lack of blitzing, they played right into Penningtons strengths. I'd rather see a healthy McKlevin getting schooled and learning the ropes than see a good player, playing hurt, getting embarrased, and hurting the team! With that being said, I think the addition of Scott at SS and moving Whitner to FS will make the D more stiffeling once Schoebel, McGee, and Youbouty get back at full strength as Scott is a PLAYER! Now he definitely has made way more plays than Whitner at SS the past 2 years when giving a chance to play. The fact that Whitner is versatile and more of a factor against the run than Ko Simpson would give an upgrade. If the DB's can get healthey and the D is unleashed and allowed to blitz more and take chances then watch out!
  7. A. Whittle got hurt and Butler was inactive. This move wasn't made for poor play as overall the O-line played great. The runblocking was the better than any game so far and the only sacks Trent had were coverage sacks as he had plenty of time most of the game except for a couple times he was hit as he threw.
  8. And while a fellow Bill got hurt, that was a bogus fine as well! Goddell has taken it too far and has taken some of the football out of it! We all love to see someome get JACKED UP but we hope they get up afterwards; if they don't then as long it wasn't a cheap hit below the waste or late but rather a straight up play then that's the price of playing in the NFL.
  9. Some of you guys are PATHETIC! You are just looking for a reason to bash someone. Jp is NOT the reason we are losing! If the D could stop the Cards, get the ball back, and give the offense more chances things would be different. If you want to place any blame look on the other side of the ball.
  10. I want to see the stand up D-line tactic for a change
  11. We can not give these WR free releases with no pass rush!
  12. Be quiet! In week one against Seattle it got us a TD run by Lynch! Dont judge Schonert on a couple of plays that you disagree with as he has done a masterful job overall this year with basically the SAME personell.
  13. He got jacked up!! Now run for the TD!!
  14. No pass rush but good half time adjustment gets a stop!
  15. We need the 3rd quarter pick for a TD like we had last week!
  16. Cards WILL choke; Kurt will turn it over on this drive!!
  17. You are reaching big time! The offense is not doing anything to lose this game or different from the 1st 4; actually they are playing better in the 1st half besides every game besides the Jags. The D has let us down!
  18. WHATEVER!!! Trent doesn't play D and JP hasn't missed but ONE pass! the D needs to step up!
  19. The offense is also used to the Bills stopping the opposition on 3rd down as well. Face it: the D is getting killed on short passes and has to adjust. I miss McGee WAY more than I miss Trent at this point! The offense has started slow in every game besides the Jags; I'm not used to the D getting torched!
  20. Perry needs to make his custom second half adjustments and take away those slants!
  21. Best and most fair quote all day; no more penalties however!
