Hows drafting a 1st round QB looking NOW!!!
JP-era replied to JP-era's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Looik I gave you 2 drafts that have stark differences. In both cases they prove my point whether you use QB rating or not. Im not willing to sit here and go through all of that, if you are go for it. How exactly would you have me figure out the QB rating? average all th years in the league? just last year? In trying to use something simple like a fairly obvious, is the guy decent, sucky, or great. I think I was more than fair here. If you want to really analyze it go for it. Id be willing to wager that it still holds true! -

Its real easy. The majority of the teams in the playoffs or in contention for a playoff spot have 1st round QB's as the starters! The notion that any undrafted or late round but pirate can come in and take you to the superbowl is poppycock! -

Alright fine. Lets look at 1998 draft where we have an assclown and Manning in the 1st round to be fair. round: 1 Manning, 3 1 Leaf, 1 2 Batch, 1 3 Frost, 1 3 Quinn, 1 3 Griese, 2 6 M Hasselbeck, 2 6 John Dutton, 1 7 Moses Moreno, 1 On the Y axis have 3 values: 3= Great QB 2= Decent QB 1= Sucky QB On the x axis have the round taken I ranked them with the 3 values at the end of the player. BTW I threw out Frost who was drafted to be a DB not a QB. Plot it out in Excel and you clearly get a downward progression as you head to later rounds. Lets even do it for a QB heavy draft for the 1st round, say the McNabb draft. 1-Couch, 1 1- McNabb, 3 1- Smith, 1 1- McNown, 1 1- Culpepper, 3 2- King, 1 3- Huard, 1 4- Germaine, 1 4- Brooks, 2 5- Daft, 1 7- Bishop, 1 7- Griesen, 1 7- Covington, 1 Again an Excel plot shows a downward trend when adding a trendline. That means that you are less likely to get a great or even good QB as you go lower in the rounds of the draft! -

BTW, as far as Drew goes, he NOW is in the category of a Garcia or Warner where without a great supporting cast he sucks! He may have been a stud when younger with no supporting cast but not anymore. Age changes the whole equation. So, Drew say 5 or more years ago fit the 1st round great QB mold, now a Drew on the decline fits the Warner or Garcia mold where he MUST have stars around him or he sucks! One more thing, our front office has basically admitted that he needs a great supporting cast to get us to the SB! -

Absoluetly an exponential decay when plotting good QB's versus round taken! FAR from linear! -

Are you serious? Prove it? I have already done this with one draft alone in the past. It literally is like 10x the number of QB's that end up being fodder from the 2nd round on versus 1st round QB's. It roughly about 1/2 of the 1st round QB's are very good or great. It more like 1/10th from the rest of the rounds. For every Manning there is 1 leaf For every Brady there is 10 Rob Johnsons -

Sh_t the list of assclowns from the 2nd round on is 10x as long! -
I never suggested that. My post says that we stick with Drew as long as we keep winning. Im not trying to be negative here...really! Im worried about what Ive seen from Drew and worried that he may lay an egg. If he does do we open up the competition next year and start Losman? It aint time to think about this yet, Drew could very well play well and take us deep.
-
It isnt Maddox or Pitts offense at all, and yes Im worried about the playoffs too. We need to show that our recent offensive domination ait a fluke and that we can put up points on a playoff/SB quality defense. This game is huge just for that reason! If we go in a put points on the board, I predict a LONG run! Yes, I am capable of looking at the positives too here.

No takers? Looks like the Fake Fats and Oneidas have serious crow reflux right about now! -
And your AIM account must be turned off right about now, switch to some other teeny bopper instant messager and save us your idiotic teenage "your mother" slams! Take a hike and leave the Bills boards to the adults!

Consider this: NYJ- Pennington- 1st round Buff- Bledsoe- 1st round, Losman- 1st round Pitt- Rothlisberger- 1st round Ind- Manning- 1st round Jax- Leftwich- 1st round SD- Brees- 1st pick of 2nd round Denv- Plummer 2nd round Phil- McNabb- 1st round GB- Favre - 2nd round Minn- Culpepper- 1st round Atl- Vick- 1st round Car- Delhomme- undrafted NO- Brooks- 4th round Sea- Hasselbeck- 6th round STL- Bulger- 6th round NE- Brady- 6th round So, that crap about bringing in some undrafted or late round clown who can get you to the playoffs and win is starting to look like hogwash! Theres a reason why I put NE at the bottom. How did undrafted Garcia do when he went to Clev? How about undrafted Warner when he went to NYG? Undrafted QB's seem to REQUIRE a GREAT supporting cast! Bulger, and Hasselbeck would SUCK on a team without a great supporting cast. BTW, NE is on the bottom because I KNOW Brady would suck BIGTIME for any other team! God Bless TD and drafting JP!

I sure hope for the Bills that "further notice" isnt on January 3, 2004!
-
Ahh yes, the "QB is only one player on the field" arguement. Unfortunately Drew is the start of EVERY single throw in our passing game. And as such he is MORE responsible for MORE of the game than say London or Villarial. Can other players be boneheads and shoot us in the foot? Absolutely! But Drew will be solely responsible for throwing the ball to our WR's, that give him lots and lots of responsibility over getting the ball there!
-
No need, Mike Nugent should be available in the 3rd round according to most draft pages.
-
Everyone knows that Im not fond of Bledsoe as our QB anymore. Id rather go with youth at this point and start building our own trifecta. But, no one can argue that Drew has put up points in the last 8 games and is one of the reasons the Bills are in playoff contention. However, we just went through our weakest section of our schedule. Drew has also laid eggs against big time teams like NE. What Drew will we see? Will he be the Drew that gets the ball out in 3 seconds or runs or throws the ball SAFELY away? Or will we see the Drew that lobs balls into double, sometimes triple coverage? Throws right at DB's? Stands in the pocket and takes 5+ sacks? The reason Im worried is simple. Even in the big wins we have had, Ive watched Drew throw lots of floaters into double coverage, throw balls directly at the DB's and throw behind the WR's. Against the 49'ers thats probably fine and proved to not be a problem. But, the Steelers are a whole different thing entirely! The Steelers have a GREAT defense, if Drew throws off target they are very likely to pick him off. With there speed, they can get under his lobs and fight for the ball. Hes going to have to drill the ball in there and be on target to win this one. Lets hope he steps up. Im still rooting for the Bills and think that BOTH Den and NYJ lose!
-
Only Clayton is better as far as yards. NO ONE HAS MORE TD's among rookie WR's than Evans!
-
NYJ loss + Bills win = playoffs regardless of what Denver does NYJ + Den Win = Bills out of playoffs regardless of what we do NYJ OR Den Loss + Bills win = Bills in playoffs
-
I saw someone post that if NYJ loses both their last 2, end up 10 and 6, we win the tiebreaker with them. How is that true?
