OK So that Presidential race...
olivier in france replied to olivier in france's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
invaded? well looks like we have not the same view on those matters. First you have to know last year's riots were not made by recent immigrants or illegal aliens. Most of the rioters were born in France sons of immigrants who can not find any job or become part of french "main stream" society because of high unemployement, rampant racism and laxist politics that have let entire towns and districts become chaotic lawless zones where even the police never enters. Illegal aliens is a marginal issue in France as their impact is low compared to the impact of the millions of french citizens that are living jobless with welfare money. The main problem of France is to put those people back at work. -

But do you think in today's America that if the GOP primaries are won by a conservative he 'll have a chance to be elected as President?! It looks to me that the GOP 'd shoot itself in the foot if it does not give its ticket to a moderate... Or maybe they hope the democrats will make the same mistake and propose a "too liberal" candidate... -

Do you consider Mc Cain as the more moderate candidate for the GOP? And what if at the end the americans have to choose between the all N York: Clinton -RudyG-Bloomberg trio?!!... Do you think a third party candidate has a chance this time? -

Tough question!! This race is very interesting and the end very hard to forecast... So far it looks like Sarkosy has the best chances but he's seen by many as a hard line rightist. The moderates are trying with Bayrou to propose an alternative to the Socialists and Gaullists that have ruled the country for the last 30 years while the Socialists are trying to look more modern with the pretty Segolène while the program looks like their usual BS... and with Le Pen real potential still a mystery, who really knows?!! -

Romney is the mormon from Mass, isn't he? As Mass is not really Fox News country how this guy has been able to be elected governor of liberal Mass? Is he very talented or has Mass changed that much? -
Hello guys! It looks like the US presidential race 's gonna be very interesting this time. Both primaries should be hard fought. But well from here in France ut's tough to have good information about the candidates. So well i hope you can help me... Can you give me in a few words a description of each candidate, how they are positioned compared to their competitors. Thanks in advance it'll help me understand a lot better what's going on in american politics ...

I've just spent the last two days with Pete who is finishing his big european trip. It was real cool to meet him. It looks like he has had a great time in Europe even if he had to deal with some &"é(&è:!!!! in Madrid who stole his camera and money. He'll be back in the US next week end.

Dixie Chicks and Freedom of Speech
olivier in france replied to yall's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
where did you see that?? All i said was : "well a company having a monopoly and deciding the products it sells IS an anti trust violation. They use their monopoly to sell what they want to sell and not what the market 'd buy, this is a clear anti-trust violation." I never said CC did that . I said "a company", it was just an hypothesis in case CC is a monopoly. Why don't you people actually read the posts before overeacting?!! -

as i said earlier i don't know about the real "domination" of CC on its market outside what i've readen here. And Walmart and Blockbuster are not monopolies or dominating the US market so they do and sell what they want. -

No no it's not only HOW it can be WHAT. A lot of anti trust violations have happened when a monopoly have not sold a better or cheaper version of their product because the ones they were selling represented better margins or incomes ... In a market like commercial radio, you can imagine a monopoly not broadcasting artists that are not signed to a music label that have commercial links with the radio for example. -

yes but from what i've readen here, CC are more than just dominating their market... and anyway you got to draw the limit somewhere... in the EU commission language an anti trust violation is called "abuse of dominating position" -

???? yeah right!! The anti trust laws of the UE as all anti trust laws in the world have been copied on the old american anti trust laws. That are defined by the control by one company of a market and the unfair decisions in terms of prices, quality and quantity that the company may take thanks to this control. -

well i'm trying hard... and don't find anything wrong... it's just the definition of an anti trust violation... well if you love monopolies why don't you move here in France, we still have tons of State Monopolies and it's soooo fun to pay more for less! -

exactly! All the Dixie Chicks have to do is to say that they're not a country band anymore but a folk band (after all isn't folk music just country music with leftist lyrics?!!) and suddenly everything we'll be back to normal. -

i don't know who may have decided that but is there anything more stupid than that?!! You try to tackle a market and you keep 2/3 of you potential customers out?!! -

he ! talking about hot tickets, do you have any to spare for sunday's rugby game? i have lot of friends looking for ones (even some that have reserved planes and hotels ...) but as they play in the gaellic sports stadium, it looks like the GAA has kept all the tickets for its members and that nothing was available for the french rugby federation... -
