well Tretiak was not only tough he was a lot better than Worsley... http://www.legendsofhockey.net/html/spot_oneononep198903.htm "When I was twelve, I received my first serious injury," Tretiak recalls. "The puck hit me squarely in the forehead. I didn't cry only because I was afraid that I'd be kicked off the team. I had fallen in love with the game so much that I was selflessly devoted to it."

The problem is not the cultural and way to play differences, of course there's some... the problem is the "you can't win with them" stuff... How many Forsbergs, World championships, Olympics , Haseks and Ovechkins do some north americans need to understand hockey is a true international game? And it's the exact same thing with basketball...

when i read that b...s... about the origins of players and how anglo canadians are supposed to be the only ones playing hockey the "right " way... two words come to my mind: Eric Lindros!

After about 20 years of european players in the league reading stuff like that makes me want to puke... what's next? You can't win in the MLB with japanese players?!!

This anti euro thing is a joke... and it is for about 15 years... The Red Wings have built their success for two decades on european talent... Just look at the rosters in the NHL!! If i take the two leading teams in the two conferences: NJ Devils 6 "euros" (1/4 of the roster) Habs: 10 "euros" (42% of the roster) Wings: 12 "euros" (half of the roster) Sharks: 8 "euros" (1/3)

What is not clear is who is responsible for the (non) paiement of the stipends to the coaches? The MLB or the Red Sox management? Does someone here know? -

Typical Yankees fan to think you have to win championships to be "great". The Red Sox was for decades, is and will be a great club and the number of championships they have won or will win has nothing to do with that. Greatness in sport is a much more complicated matter than rings, it involves tradition, fans, history, spirit... The Bills or the Browns have never won a Superbowl and they are great clubs, much greater than Superbowl winners like the Bucs or the Ravens... The Sabres have never won a Stanley cup but they are about ten times greater than Stanley Cup winners Lightning or Hurricanes... Who 'd dare to say the Chicago Cubs are not a great club? Of course they are! -

ah ah Red Sox fans could laugh at those old jokes before the two titles so now that the Sox have won two of them, it's even funnier to hear Yanks fans telling them!!! -
Good thing Japan has a gun ban
olivier in france replied to VABills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
YOU ARE the one kidding!!! Joke! i do not excuse anybody !I just say that with 80% of americans having direct access to guns any act of violence in America become an issue of life and death, with tragedies happening every single hour in the US because of GUNS. The first cause of death for young urban males in the US is guns. The proportion of people being killed by guns in the US is at the level of countries having WAR on their own soil! And you dare to told me my country is a country of chaos and destruction?!!!! Look at you in the MIRROR!! -

i have no idea who is that guy but what's your point? ... and the 2 teenagers killed themselves, their death was not linked to any violent incident. You can count 1 2 3 event 10 if you want, last time LA ghettos has started to get hot 50 people died the first night... -

olivier in france replied to VABills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Yeah like everywhere in the world! Well the statistics show violent crime in France is about 5 times less important than in the US but how can i argue with you? In this forum you don't believe in statistics! You only believe people who know some people who know some people who have been in France... I can not fight experts like you!! -

rk fast just a question: how many people 'd die in the US if half the ghettos of the major cities were rioting for 2 weeks? 200? 300? 500? Last year "riots" here went on for about 3 weeks.... not ONE related death! -
What's your favorite BEER?
olivier in france replied to bartshan-83's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I love beer but i don't celebrate or honor something or someone with beer. Only Champagne should be used for that. -

You think Europe is dangerously violent? Just ask our fellow TBD regular Pete if he'd still be alive if what happened to him in Madrid last feb. had happened in any major US city... -

Darin what are you talking about? we talk about gun violence and gun availability and you talk about the wealth of America... what's your point? That because you're rich you have no issues? and wealthier than who? ever heard about switezerland, sweden danemark, iceland, norway, ireland?! all countries wealthier per capita than the US... and states larger than who? Germany as more than twice the population of the most populated US State, oh yes Texas is large!! the Sahara desert is large too! -

olivier in france replied to VABills's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Come on Darin you're usually better than that! Like it or not, pro gun or not, those statistics are not only true but they tell us a lot about the violence of the american society compared to any other in the industrialised world. That does not make America a worst or better country than the others but you have to deal with it and if you're pro gun you have to assume that, as always, with a liberty comes a responsability and a risk. -

OK So that Presidential race...
olivier in france replied to olivier in france's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
Absolutly not. In fact compared with the last decades the arrivals of new immigrants are very marginal in France. Immigrants go where there's actually available jobs and in Europe it is currently in the UK or in Spain. The "boycott",!! What a joke! American imports are always been very low for the French economy and this boycott did not change anything. The problem of the french economy is mainly a problem of the cost of labor that is one of the highest in the world especially since the desastrous 35 hours labor week law voted by the socialists in 2000. Well and the strong euro is a problem for about 5 years but it's an european issue.
