  1. http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing;_...5PShtaqOw05nYcB Reading the american reactions and the spaniard ones i find this whole story really interesting. I know both countries quite well and while you could think that as occidental countries they'd share the same values it is true that on the "political correctness spectrum" they are really at the opposites. While the US is very sensible to everything involving racial issues, Spain is probably the less sensible occidental country when dealing with racial matters. History (long isolation, low immigration, not involved in modern decolonisation and ww2...) may explain a lot... But it's really interesting how different are the reactions and how we can misundersand each other even inside the occidental world.
  2. yes they are.
  3. Looks like the Koreans could be a surprise pick for a medal...
  4. No big news there... We can easily imagine the NBA in 2020 with an european division with teams in Barcelona Madrid Rome Milano Athens Istanbul Moscow Lyon If they don't make it the "closed" european league that the top clubs are planning could become a major competitor for the best players in the World for the NBA... And an NHL european division with teams in Prague Stockholm Moscow Helsinki Berlin Zurich Same issue here it's either that or the loss for the NHL of all top russian and eastern europeans to the "new rich" russian teams... The NFL could have viable teams in Germany or England but probably not enough to make a division making things difficult...
  5. Thanks for the link. Did not know that story. Something Buffalonians should be proud of!!
  6. i love your signature "there's nothing worse than aggresive stupidity". Perfect in that thread and works both with those frog swimmers and the posters here.
  7. Mad at some of you yes. But happy to see some arrogant pieces of s... coming back home their tail between their legs too.
  8. There's probably nothing i care less about than olympic swimming but reading those two pages of b S Frankly guys it's not because a couple of frenchmen swimmers are stupid and arrogant that you should be the same. How classless are you?!!! Remember guys you're Buffalo Bills fans... we all know a little about losing at the last second and the supid jokes that come with it...
  9. Backstage? Now that's gay!
  10. The NE US has about the same distance between major cities and the same population densities than Europe. High speed train lines going from Boston to DC, NYC to Toronto via Rochester and Buffalo, Quebec to Detroit via Montreal and Toronto, Chicago to Philly via Pitt and Cleveland 'd not only be viable but a real solution for the future. Flying will very soon be more expensive than train for trips under 1 000 miles
  11. When was the last time you visited France? 1945? !!
  12. high speed trains? about everybody!! They have changed about everything in the way people travel in France those last 20 years....
  13. makes me think of one of my friends back in my student days in Lyon. He was living up the Fourviere Hill and as he was always in dire straits he used to cut his engine to save gas during the 2-3 miles the road was really going down hill ... in the middle of peak hour traffic with an old Citroen 2CV... scary!! i wonder how he survived the 4 full years of his studies...
  14. and maybe UB football games if the program continues to slowly grow and becomes a competitive team.
  15. Not a bad idea... especially if the visiting teams hotels are on the canadian side!
  16. I always find funny that the word "liberal" is slowly becoming an insult both sides of the Atlantic for the exact opposite reasons!! While the american liberal is more or less seen by many americans like a damned communist under disguise, the european liberal is seen by most europeans like a blood thirsty capitalist. the worst part being i'm a liberal both in the US and in Europe!
  17. U2 lyrics are sometimes relly good too... My favorite has always be: U2 - All I Want Is You You say you want Diamonds on a ring of gold You say you want Your story to remain untold But all the promises we make From the cradle to the grave When all I want is you You say you'll give me A highway with no one on it Treasure just to look upon it All the riches in the night You say you'll give me Eyes in a moon of blindness A river in a time of dryness A harbour in the tempest But all the promises we make From the cradle to the grave When all I want is you You say you want Your love to work out right To last with me through the night You say you want Diamonds on a ring of gold Your story to remain untold Your love not to grow cold All the promises we break From the cradle to the grave When all I want is you
  18. How right you are adding"Cougar"!!! And as i'm a country boy i can even relate more with Mellencamp. You can even maybe make it a square with Neil Young in Canada Sadly All those great ones are getting old and i don't see many young guys writing songs rooted in the reality of middle class and blue collar america ...
  19. Bob Seger!! looks like everybody has forgotten him but he made some great ones... "The Ring" for example.
  20. Great one too... The Boss knows how to write those stories... what about : HIGHWAY PATROLMAN My name is Joe Roberts I work for the state I'm a sergeant out of Perrineville barracks number 8 I always done an honest job as honest as I could I got a brother named Franky and Franky ain't no good Now ever since we was young kids it's been the same come down I get a call over the radio Franky's in trouble downtown Well if it was any other man, I'd put him straight away But when it's your brother sometimes you look the other way Me and Franky laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood" I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother would Man turns his back on his family well he just ain't no good Well Franky went in the army back in 1965 I got a farm deferment, settled down, took Maria for my wife But them wheat prices kept on droppin' till it was like we were gettin' robbed Franky came home in `68, and me, I took this job Yea we're laughin' and drinkin' nothin' feels better than blood on blood Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood" I catch him when he's strayin', teach him how to walk that line Man turns his back on his family he ain't no friend of mine Well the night was like any other, I got a call `bout quarter to nine There was trouble in a roadhouse out on the Michigan line There was a kid lyin' on the floor lookin' bad bleedin' hard from his head there was a girl cryin' at a table and it was Frank, they said Well I went out and I jumped in my car and I hit the lights Well I must of done one hundred and ten through Michigan county that night It was out at the crossroads, down round Willow bank Seen a Buick with Ohio plates behind the wheel was Frank Well I chased him through them county roads till a sign said Canadian border five miles from here I pulled over the side of the highway and watched his taillights disappear Me and Franky laughin' and drinkin' Nothin' feels better than blood on blood Takin' turns dancin' with Maria as the band played "Night of the Johnstown Flood" I catch him when he's strayin' like any brother would Man turns his back on his family well he just ain't no good My name is Joe Robert I work for the state I'm a sergeant out of Perrineville. barraks Number 8 I've always done an honest job OR: Cautious man Bill Horton was a cautious man of the road He walked lookin' over his shoulder and remained faithful to its code When something caught his eye he'd measure his need And then very carefully he'd proceed Billy met a young girl in the early days of May It was there in her arms he let his cautiousness slip away In their lovers twilight as the evening sky grew dim He'd lay back in her arms and laugh at what had happened to him On his right hand Billy tattooed the word love and on his left hand was the word fear And in which hand he held his fate was never clear Come Indian summer he took his young lover for his bride And with his own hands built a great house down by the riverside Now Billy was an honest man he wanted to do what was right He worked hard to fill their lives with happy days and loving nights Alone on his knees in the darkness for steadiness he'd pray For he knew in a restless heart the seed of betrayal lay One night Billy awoke from a terrible dream callin' his wife's name She lay breathing beside him in a peaceful sleep, a thousand miles away He got dressed in the moonlight and down to the highway he strode When he got there he didn't find nothing but road Billy felt a coldness rise up inside him that he couldn't name Just as the words tattooed 'cross his knuckles he knew would always remain At their bedside he brushed the hair from his wife's face as the moon shone on her skin so white Filling their room with the beauty of God's fallen light
  21. you're right i hate swimming.
  22. ... and you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking...
  23. Thunder Road is my all time favorite song.
  24. i hope the IBF will be able to bring baseball back for the 2016 games (as baseball will not be an olympic competition in London in 2012)... not that i care much about that olympic competition but the french baseball federation will receive much more money from the state if the sport remains an olympic sport.
