  1. I'm not buying the argument that this team is so good, it's unreasonable to expect the 11th overall pick in the draft to crack the starting lineup.

Would you really argue that having Josh Reed start is a good thing?

Remember, Levy would never draft underclassmen either. Which is something Jauron doesn't mind.

The 11th overall pick was a DB, not a WR. Unless I'm wrong in connecting your 1st 2 statements, is that what you meant?

  2. Ralph has never said he's losing money....ever.

What he does object to is the unshared cash flow that large market teams and/or those with new stadiums have to use as signing bonus amunition against the small market franchises.

When Dallas' wants to sign a FA and structure the deal with a large up-front bonus, Jerry Jones justs skims a bit a money off the top of his suite/seat license pot of gold and throws it into the offer. For the Bills to match that offer, Ralph has to pull the up-front cash out of his wallet, rather than the team's operating cash flow. Essentially, he's dipping into his net worth, where Jones is just expensing it on the Cowboy's income statement.

    Advantage: Dallas.

Also, that unshared cash flow raises the salary cap for all teams. That is another of his complaints. How can unshared money raise the cap?

  3. Not all new stadiums have PSL's. The Giants/Jets new field won't charge PSL's in the same way either. NYG will have PSL's for the entire place, while NYJ will only charge the lower bowl.

Besides, someone mentioned that the bubble could burst for the NFL in the next few years. I'd say if teams can't win year after year (and few can) that PSL's might push enough fans away. Some NFL owners act as though their product is bulletproof and PSL's will be bought up regardless. I can see that changing in the next few years.

New stadiums equate to greater revenue. It's why the Colts are worth $1B+ this season, when last year they were in the 20s.

I agree somewhat but revenues increase because the price of everything in the stadium has increased. My point is that you could build a new stadium in Buffalo but can not increase the price of tickets the way the Colts, Jets/Giants and Cowboys will. I will do some research but check out the ticket prices for the stadiums. No way any of us would pay over $300.00 per game.

  4. Maybe it was just me, but I felt like it was negative when the original poster said, "add him to the list of players who want a new deal." I guess that doesn't have to mean its bad, just seemed like it to me as a first reaction. Anyway, lets hope we can lock him for a number of years.

Ok - I think he was just saying that we have a few star players needing new deals soon.

  5. It's noteworthy that there are only 8 franchises that by 2010 will have stadiums 25 years or older. Those eight teams, Buffalo, Minnesota, Oakland, San Fran, San Diego, New Orleans, Kansas City, and Green Bay have an average team value of 914M. The league average is 1.04B, or about 125M above those eight teams. Teams by 2010 which will have parks younger than 25 have an average value of 1.082B, or approximately 170M more than teams with old fields in 2008 dollars.

As good as it is to have a low debt to value ratio as Buffalo has, it's apparent the NFL is pushing teams to build new stadiums to increase revenue. Many of those teams with higher debt to value ratio also have new stadiums, which helps reduce debt faster. Owners themselves realize this, and the disparity between rich and poor teams continues to grow. It's no wonder Ralph had no issues from owners about playing games in Toronto because the other 31 know that when teams at the bottom succeed, they all win. Revenue sharing alone does not solve the problem, and neither does a salary cap.

There's obviously a huge gap between franchises like Dallas and Washington versus Buffalo, and San Diego. Stadiums go a long way toward reducing that, but I can't see a new stadium built nearby anytime soon, especially with the owner's age and situation.

A new stadium in Buffalo will not increase revenue. No one in Buffalo will pay a PSL and you can not raise the price of tickets and luxury boxes high enough to offset the expense of a new stadium.

  6. I think you are correct about the debt issue. The Bills would be much higher if they could charge more for tickets and boxes. Wait until Jets/Giants move in to their new stadium and start collecting $250,000.00 per box. The Cowboys also. The revenue disparity is about to grow even more. My problem - Ralph's also - is that this money the Cowboys and Jet/Giants collect raises the cap, which is why Wilson fought so hard for more revenue sharing.

  7. Right, lets have the biggest game of the year played in a blizzard.

This way nobody has any idea whats going on, not even the officials.

The Championship is kinda just up for grabs :pirate:

Do you recall the Colts-Bears SB in Miami? Only hockey and basketball should be played indoors.

  8. Its early, but Robert Royal is playing like a pro bowl caliber TE. The two TD's against the Steelers and then again on the first game against the seahawks tells me we are perfectly fine at the TE position. A position I once thought was a weakness is turning out to be a position of strength.

Robert Royal is swiftly becoming TE's security blanket, the big fella can catch

C'mon. I like Royal but after 1 game you are putting him in the Pro Bowl. This board gets too up after a win and too down after a loss. We have a good team here. Let's keep things in perspective. If we lose next week people will want to cut everyone and fire the whole staff.

  9. Agreeing with everyone else with this switch; Jax has to replace the middle 3 OL for this game. A daunting task in itself -sux to be them. Realistically, it's hard to imagine these three guys having the prep time necessary to study all the habits/tricks that film reveal on all 4 of our DT's, to say nothing of switching in DE's and 'the Creep' where the situation allows. It stands to reason they'll be very busy trying to find cohesivness playing together this week in practice.

I'm getting so excited about this game that I'm scared

Great feeling , isn't it? I had those feeling in the 90's. Couldn't wait for the next game.
