  1. How do we not take care of the most vulnerable? And if they are neglected, who's usually at fault?
  2. Let's compare smaller largely homogeneous, top down state controlled countries with the US. Great correlation!
  3. That's why I said the book reinforced the narrative.
  4. Yeah, Trump is in a different stratosphere in this regard. Always had been. Why would he change when he got to the White House?
  5. Trump obviously. Difference from other politicians of course, is that Trump still favors those who are complimentary of him, and the Chinese perfectly played the playbook.
  6. Excerpts of Bolton's book are coming out, and as expected they're not pretty. Solidifies the image of a scattershot narcissist.
  7. You're not the only one who falls for it. That's why we call it panic porn.
  8. You asked a question of which country is applicable to compare to the US, the answer is not many, but if you were to pick some, Brazil, China, and India would apply. Maybe Russia to an extent (definitely Soviet Union if it were alive). Indian poverty is just one factor of the overall equation, but not a huge one, considering there's low correlation of poverty to Covid in the US, and there are many poorer countries than India that aren't experiencing the same outbreaks. And it seems that you agree that having a lot of racial and cultural diversity is a good place to study a pandemic.
  9. Gotta love when the headline doesn't match the story
  10. It's fully comparable due to its size, geography, and diversity of cultures and races. Not everyone in India is dirt poor
  11. All the early stage EU countries should be compared to NE states, where US will look very poorly by comparison. Yes, India and Brazil are probably the best comps to the overall US (if they had good reporting). China would too if you could trust their numbers.
  12. That's the point, you cannot compare US to any other country. Our geography and federalism make a simple country comparison irrelevant. A far better correlation would be other countries to individual states.
  13. You are totally ignoring the timing of the cash inflows & outflows and the impact of the overall PSE enterprise. This is not only about the hockey operations. The lockdown timing could not have been worse for their collection of properties. AFAIK, they are generating almost zero revenues because oil & gas is in the tank, no sports, no travel and no concerts. Yet, the lights still need to be kept on at Keybank, Adpro, Harborside and Nashville and they need to spend a lot more to get the facilities ready for the NFL season under the virus protocols. They're also missing out on the NFL ticket sales that would have been rolling in right now and the NFL TV payments don't kick in until September. Had they known all this would be happening, I'm sure they would have planned better. This is a classic working capital squeeze. I wouldn't doubt they brought in consultants who are advising them on fixing their cost structure. Sabres are just the latest stop in their efforts to reign the cash. It's also indicative of the scattershot approach they've taken to build their non Oil&Gas business. They run the business more as a collection of toys with very poor financial decisions and dubious management hires. It works "fine" when you have an unlimited checkbook from the gas wells. No so much in other times. It reminds me of the flights of fancy Paul Allen used to have in his dealings, because he was always backstopped by the Bank of Bill Gates. Eventually he learned the hard way to run businesses properly.
  14. I could care less of the optics they're trying to sell, but understand that they are probably going through a serious cash flow problem right now. That was a major consideration in yesterday's bloodletting, but not the only one. You seem to want to hold them to a different standard than other companies in the industries that they own. Here's a snippet from Marriott's actions. It's not too different in any of the other industries they own. At the end of the day, they're ones who chose their investments, and now it's certainly backfired. But that doesn't mean they don't have cash flow issues.
  15. Based on the assets they own, I think they are running pretty big operating cash deficits since they're generating almost no revenues but are still incurring heavy fixed costs. Their choices are to keep cutting costs, sell assets or borrow.
  16. In the process of saying you're not conflating wealth & income, you proceed to conflate wealth & income. Exactly how did he make $2 million on his wealth yesterday? Do you have an actual insight on his cash generating assets? I doubt it. The best example I can give is someone may own a priceless Picasso, but can't afford to keep the lights on because there's no way to charge other people to see the artwork. So you are very asset rich, but the expenses of keeping the Picasso hung safely on the wall mean that you need to tap into your savings or look to severely cut costs of maintaining the artwork. No too different than what Pegulas are doing now.
  17. Never conflate the value of a franchise with cash revenues and expenses. There have been many owners who hit a liquidity wall at the worst times for them. It's not uncommon for small market teams that are not well run into cash losses. The owners then turn to their reserves to meet that shortfall. It's not too far fetched to see that Pegulas are scrambling for cash now, since every business they own has been hit pretty badly and there's no visibility for a recovery. Their cost cutting actions are similar to nearly every company that's in oil& gas, entertainment & hospitality. A pretty toxic mix of assets in these times.
  18. Posting incomparable data is misleading. You should not be posting side by side graphs of smaller countries that have already gone through their peaks with the overall USA graphs. I can post factual data of home runs and touchdowns. Now tell me the correlation.
  19. Then why do you post misleading graphs? It's clear that Fla & Texas may be hitting infection peaks as the virus is working through the states. But so far, evidence shows that their experience will be much better, most likely due to fewer unknowns, updated medical procedures, and overall better handling of the pandemic than the motley crew in Northeast. That is most certainly my original point.
  20. Again, that's a misleading graphic because you're comparing countries that have already gone through their peak. The more appropriate comparison would be those countries to NYS. Notice a different pattern?
  21. Quaint, but universally true. It's more of a parallel to your story above. Her message is that she's tired of the pandering.
  22. You're asking about an individuals' psychological make up? It's hard to rationalize not getting a test if someone you've been in close contact was recently tested positive.
  23. And therein is the rub. When does the black community get tired of a party that's patronized them for 50+ years, with no tangible benefit to speak of in 2 generations?
  24. Is that because it's the most important factor in your life? Do you always need validation from people who could care less about you?
