How are they handling the "12th man?"
-
I'd take it if it was signed. I'd hang it right next to my autographed Gary Marangi jersey.
-
Didn't know about the Herm Edwards connection between Marrone and Hackett, guess that means well get plenty of props from him (assuming the wheels don't come off)
I'd love to see and 8-8 season, but part of me wants to suffer a bit so we can get another good draft, THEN be successful.
-
This game will decide if Kevin Kolb -- as long as he doesn't slip on anything threatening like a floor mat or a shark
I think he'll be ready to jump a shark soon.
-
It seems like they're finally figuring out how to "cope" with Pettine's defense.
Kolb mentioned that Hackett had changed up a few things (I'm assuming protections and hot reads) but I also think that the offense has become acclimatized and that the unpredictability of the Bills D is becoming more predictable after all these practices.
It makes me shudder to think of how handicapped the Bills offense was last year by never being mentally challenged by Wanny's Vanilla Light scheme.
I think this also might be an indication that the offense is getting more habitual and less thought out as they become more familiar with it, again a good sign esp this early into a new offense.
I like hearing that Hackett changed things up, he's adaptable, that's good.
Good point on the vanilla D from last year hampering the O ability to cope with an aggressive defense, I hadn't considered that!

So you're the one who listens!
If he could have a show on card, baseball, and tennis he'd be in heaven. Unfortunately, he has to entertain us, the great unwashed, in our trivial indulgences, which is where he gets his bitterness.
-
And I love the comparison ... we can only hope EJ has some Culpepper/the early years in him. Daunte was a lethal weapon for a time there, pretty much right up until I decided to select him first overall in my fantasy draft circa 2005.
Please note that you are hereby banned from drafting EJ as your fantasy quarterback. You may have Tom Brady as a consolation prize however.

The fact that this team went from a 4/3 to a 3/4, back to a 4/3 again all within 12 months means this team is very versatile. What you say is true, they still have to execute, but I like our chances.
If they were successful at both 4/3 and 3/4, then you could call them versatile. Given the track record, I'd call them terrible. That said, I do hope that better coaching with an eye toward player strengths make for a better defense.

That was precisely my point?
You said loss of down, I said possession, ie giving up the ball to the would-be intercepting team in the case of an offensive PI call.
-
Valid point.
I'm still waiting for offensive pass interference to result in a loss of down.
To carry the OP point to it's logical conclusion WRT this, it should be loss of possession. After all, the offense PI is likely to prevent an interception.

What?
GO BILLS!!!
What's on second.
C'mon, keep up!

We had strong special teams for most of the last 13 years. Where did that get us?
Let's get the O and D solid, and take care of ST after that. I'm not saying ignore it, mind you,
but let's prioritize it accordingly.

It's on like a mofo!

We all know about the 2012 draft class qbs - here are some other recent draft classes:
2011: Cam Newton, Jake Locker, Blaine Gabbert, Christina Ponder, Andy Dalton, Colin Kaepernick
Newton has been decent but had a bit of a sophomore slump. I'd say the jury is still out on Ponder, while Dalton and Kaepernick have been solid.
2010: Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow, Jimmy Clausen, Colt McCoy
ugh
2009: Matt Stafford, Mark Sanchez, Josh Freeman, Pat White, Stephen McGee, Rhett Bohmar, Nate Davis
Stafford yes, Sanchez is a wreck, Freeman is middle of the pack
2008: Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Brian Brohm, Chad Henne, Kevin O'Connell, John David Booty, Dennis Dixon, a bunch of other no-names, and Matt Flynn
Ryan, Flacco yes, Henne backs up Blaine Gabbert in Jacksonville, O'Connell gained a ton of weight, got old real quick, and does weather for Channel 4, and Flynn is
bouncing around the league with a lot of hope.
What makes a good draft class? One good qb? Two? 2012 seems to be a milestone year for qb's, but 2013 seems to be about average. It only looks terrible because we look at the success of last years rookie qb's. That's an aberration though.

Pettine has been known to like bringing in guys from his previous team to help teach his defensive system. For that reason, I'd be good with Leonhard.

nfl referees announce in lieu of the tuck rule they are reinstating an option to use the 'just give it to them' rule when it would benefit the patriots
Not reinstating, making it a point of emphasis!
-
They are just doing this to save money since the staff is under contract for next season and they are paying them anyhow.
Not sure about this, I believe I've read that assistant coach salaries are not guaranteed, so if they get canned, the team is not obligated to pay them anymore.

Soprano? That you?

This analysis is wide right.
He was 36-44 (6-10, 7-9,7-9,11-5, & 5-11) as Cleveland's head coach, and went 5-11 2000 with NE, the year before Brady took over for an injured Bledsoe.
He started 0-2 (Bledsoe was hurt in the 2nd game), and Brady came in and they went 11-3.
Great quarterbacks make great coaches.
-
Brady is everyone's bane (except Eli's)
Mind you, he has a fantastic coach and an unbelieveable pass-blocking O Line
Fantastic coach? I think not. He was average/below average until Brady came on the scene.

This. Uralcher and Briggs dont get concussed because they know how to tackle. They dont lead with their head, or try that human-missile crap. It's pretty simple.
+1

The suck runs strong in this one.

Can't depend on a rookie in that situation to make a route adjustment.
This. With the game on the line you look to your best players to make plays. CJ or Stevie should have had their number called. This goes
to playcalling.
A Question about the Squib Kick at the End of the Game

Actually that would have either killed the clock or given the ball back to Buffalo. Not a bad strategy IMHO.
