If you had to choose 1 out of the 10, who would it be?
1billsfan replied to gr8billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's as if way back in the Dick Jauron era, he brainwashed a whole group of people into thinking that not turning the ball over is the most amazing and spectacular thing a QB could do...ever. -

Exactly... the Browns, 49ers, Bears, Jets, Chargers, Bills, Saints, Cardinals, Redskins, Giants, Texans, Chiefs, Steelers all need QBs either now or very soon. According to Matt Miller, Mahomes had meetings with 49ers, Jets, Giants, Bills, Saints, Steelers, Browns, Redskins, Texans, Chargers. I think that some of the draft “experts” are being fools in thinking Mahomes will go in the second round. Daniel Jeremiah had the Bills taking Gareon Conley at #10 (WHO?! WHAT?!) and just two QBs taken with no Mahomes in his latest mock draft. Ridiculous. Who cares, draft Mahomes. Yes, they missed on EJ...but they also missed on Dak Prescott because they didn't take him soon enough. Finding a QB is almost totally random. So you have to still take risks and chances. They will be an irrelevant team until they do, no matter what "elite" corner they would pick. Plus this "elite" corner will bolt in four to five years (see Gilmore). -

The Bills need to draft a QB in the first because Taylor sucks. Evidence of this is that no other team in the league wanted him, so he came back. My write-in pick is Mahomes. -
Maybe all of the dragging of the feet on the Tyrod decision were in fact negotiations within the franchise. Perhaps Whaley gave in to McDermott's request to get Tyrod back, and McDermott gave in to Whaley and said he wouldn't pout if Whaley picks a QB at #10. As for "two years", it can be seen as a good thing for a rookie QB to ease into the league and not have to start right away. If they do go QB at #10, that guy will be the starter in 2018 and Taylor will either be the backup or traded.
-
That is a "drop the mike" comment if I ever read one. Drafting an "eilte" DB will only get you four to five years of that player's service until another team is willing to break the bank and he's gone because he wants to get paid and play with a team that has a real QB and chance to win a Superbowl. A lot of fans are not seeing the big picture. Just ignore the experts and draft Mahomes at #10 please. These experts are so completely wrong so many times on college QBs prospects in the pro game.
-
Even though I want them to pick a QB at #10, I really do think that there was a compromise between the Whaley and McDermott in regards to the Taylor signing. McDermott got a steady starting QB to remain at least respectable on offense, while Whaley gets to draft his future franchise QB of choice (if he's there) at #10.

The QB position is unlike any other in the NFL. Prescott, Carr and Wilson would have all been seen as huge reaches if they were drafted at #10. Because of this, when it comes to QBs, you have to throw the "group think" expert rankings out the window. If you believe that he has the skills to become a franchise QB, then being able to draft him at #10 is a steal considering the Browns, 49ers, Bears, and Jets all need franchise QBs.

Mahomes is worth the #10 pick, check this out... http://www.boltsfromtheblue.com/2017/2/10/14575816/patrick-mahomes-would-be-a-great-pick-at-7-for-the-chargers "He avoids the pressure, somehow stays on his feet, keeps his eyes downfield and casually launches it for 30 yards. I can think of a few NFL QBs who that reminds me of, and they're all future HoFs." These are the skills that separate the average and the great QBs.

We don't know what the Bills will do, just be glad that this board isn't in charge of the pick. I take some comfort in the HC saying that Taylor was their starting QB "FOR NOW", and when he was first hired, he and Whaley said there was going to be a short term and LONG TERM plan at the QB position. I just wonder why fans are feeling so good at the QB position that they're fine going elsewhere at #10. The lack of urgency here is crazy, since Taylor is a know fail for their franchise QB solution. The Pats are keeping Garappolo, they have already found their next franchise QB! LOL

It's been said that the Bills liked Dak Prescott, but they thought the third round was too rich. That was dumb. The same thing happened when they wanted Russell Wilson, but thought he'd be there in the fourth round and they drafted TJ Graham instead. That was dumb. Why are fans so "whatever" about this stuff? The Bills are making a habit of missing out on franchise QBs when they have been in dire need of one for forever now. The Bills FO needs to just take the QB they want even if that means taking a guy that's rated a 2nd rounder at #10. I have no problem what-so-ever at all with them doing that.

Welcome! Throw the rules out. Don’t let past decisions on QBs (EJ), haunt the present. Finding franchise QBs is about the most random thing in the NFL. However, the thing about it being so random is that you have to actually be involved in the game for it to pay off. I think the new rule should be that, if you don’t have a franchise QB, it’s ok to draft a QB with a high pick in two consecutive drafts. I think that fans can’t see the forrest through the trees here when it comes to this topic. The Bills have been a totally lost franchise since Kelly left the stage. There will be five more teams (on top of the 6 or 7 we already know) jumping into the QB race within these next two drafts because of aging QBs. Picking a tight end, or a safety, or pick another meaningless position player (who will eventually leave like Gilmore) at #10 that won’t matter until they find a QB.
-
Says who? There are no rules if you don't have a franchise QB. The league has become a game that you only win when you find a franchise QB. If you don't have one, you're the NFL's version of wallpaper. You have to keep drafting QBs and the best odds are the ones drafted with a high pick. It's so random, so you just have to keep doing it until you find the guy.
-
I think it would be the perfect situation. Taylor can start for the next two years while Mahomes develops. In two years time, Brady will be gone and the AFC East will be the battle of Garappalo vs Mahomes, maybe even Darnold if the Jets have the #1 pick next year.
-
Mahomes is my first choice, if he's not there then Watson, if he's not there then we can talk about a positional player at #10.
-
I’m shocked at how many Bills fans are advocating taking a positional player over QB at #10. It’s as if the Bills franchise were a house with a cracked foundation, and fans are fine with putting in a brand new tricked out kitchen. Are fans feeling really good with a bottom 20 QB like Taylor? If not, exactly where is the future Bills franchise QB coming from if not the draft? Do you not realize that YOU ARE NOTHING without a QB in the NFL? In another thread I laid out how many teams with aging QBs will be jumping into the “drafting a QB” game both this year and next year. Bills fans should be frightened by the prospect of the Bills not taking a QB at #10. The QB landscape is going to get very ugly, very quickly in this league with about 12 teams looking for franchise QBs. It’s already started this year by how many of the aging QB teams are actively looking over this year’s QB prospects. Forget the "big board" rankings, draft a QB.
-
The draft is still a month and a half away. I think the Patriots holding onto Garappolo will start sending ripples turning into big waves to teams with aging QBs like the Saints, Cardinals, Steelers, Chargers and Giants. All of them were interviewing QBs at the combine. So not only are you competing with the Browns, 49ers, Bears, Jets, Texans...you now are all of a sudden competing with a whole bunch of teams. You can also add in the the Redskins who will need a QB in 2018. There's also a lot of talk about the Chiefs wanting to move on from Smith. The Bills still need to find a franchise QB. The Taylor signing did nothing to change this fact. This year's QBs will almost certainly shoot up the draft boards basically because of the supply and demand principle. People can make fun of fans that want to draft a QB even if it is seen as a big reach, but if you don't have a legit franchise QB you're team is like a house with a cracked foundation, or a car with a bad engine. Now the Patriots look solid even after Brady leaves. Think that isn't scaring these franchises with aging QBs? I predict at least 4, maybe 5 QBs will be gone by the second round.

Patriots Complete Trade for Brandin Cooks
1billsfan replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Saints now have two 1st round picks and two 3rd round picks. They're also a team with a 38 year old QB. Anyone wanting to trade back and still get their QB of choice in this draft does so at their own risk. If you want a certain QB, pick him at #10. -
You do this at the risk of the Cardinals or a team picking later in the draft trading up ahead of where you land after the trade back. That's a huge risk in which having that extra 2nd or 3rd round pick isn't worth it, if he ends up getting drafted ahead of the Bills. If you want to draft him, I wouldn't get cute by trading back. There's a lot of teams picking after the Bills with aging QBs along with Houston.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I really do think that the Bills should draft Mahomes at #10 and a lot of the reasons for it are purely anecdotal...LOL David Carr gushed about Mahomes at the combine (the only one I heard him do that to), I heard on the radio this morning Phil Sims saying that Mahomes and Webb were the only two QBs from this class that have true potential at the NFL level. Mike Mayock calls him a gunslinger with an innate feel for the game. The Bills could draft Mahomes at #10 and give him two full years to develop under Taylor, and by then Brady will be 42 years old. Two years down the road, this could be seen as the moment this franchise's ship started turning back on course. Yes, they'll get plastered by the media and fans, but who cares. The media would have done that if Wilson or Prescott were draft at #10 in their draft years. He is going to be drafted in the first round, so why not just feel fortunate that they're in front of the teams looking for QBs in the pick #11-32 crowd.

Deshaun Watson. The Taylor signing does nothing for the long term QB solution for the franchise. The GM and head coach said they would have a QB plan for the short and long term. Taylor gets his very slim chance to take his game to the top 10 franchise QB level, all the while Watson and Jones can develop slowly and the Bills are finally feeling comfortable at the position for at least the next five years. All of these great positional players that would be available at #10 are luxury items for a team like the Bills who have been lost for almost 20 years without a franchise QB. IMO, don't get too attached to 1st round rated positional players.
-
Oh no, this is such a profound and indisputable game changer. I think this puts the Patriots in a great position to win the AFC East division next year.

Does Watson's impressive combine do anything for you?
1billsfan replied to BILLiever55's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's definitely not happening. The Cardinals, Steelers and Giants (all teams with aging QBs) have all met with Mahomes and they know he won't be around for their 2nd round pick. Plus you get the fifth year option in the first round. -

After seeing more of Mahomes, I'm actually turning the corner on this guy and hoping the Bills draft him, even at #10. A get a serious bust vide from Trubisky, and Watson seems to have a little too robotic of a personality. The thing on Watson is totally nit-picky I know, I just like the way Mahomes carries himself. He seems to have that Brett Favre energy and enthusiasm that, while it may not show up in stats, matters to building a winning culture. BTW, I'm not looking into getting in debates over the top QBs. This is just my observations at the moment. Having said all that, I'm expecting by the time the draft rolls around Mahomes will become the top QB and the Bills won't even have a shot unless they trade up. Watson would be fine with me at #10 if that happened. I didn't think I'd want the Bills to go QB, but I've come around to both Mahomes and Watson. Tyrod Taylor is a distant memory for me. Staying average is not a plan. -
The rational of prolonging the tyrod decision
1billsfan replied to Footballsdeep's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There’s nothing logical about the Bills picking up the option for Taylor (that cap number's too big for a QB who's bottom third), and since they won’t, there’s nothing logical about thinking Taylor is coming back at a reduced price. Once the option isn’t picked up, it sends the message that the QB that has started for them for two years, isn’t good enough for the big QB pay. If you did that, as an organization, what exactly are you telling your team? “Yeah…we don’t really believe in our starting QB, but we want you guys to be lead by him”. This is why I think Taylor’s as good as gone. I think they’ll draft Kelly at some point past the 4th round, probably start Jones in a transitional/rebuilding year, and have an eye on the QB prospects in college this season. -
Unintended Leak of Tyrod's Future??
1billsfan replied to theesir's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When the question of Taylor came up, he mentioned that the Bills would do what's in the best interest in both the short term and long term. If Taylor was ever regarded as the long term option then they would have immediately told everyone they were picking up the option and that he's 100% their franchise guy. Taylor will never be regarded as the short term solution because that contract option forces the organization to "show their cards" on how much they believe in the QB that's been their starter for 2 years. Once they say they aren't picking it up, there is simply no way to mend something like that. The Bills are playing coy because they're probably waiting till the last second on the chance that there's a team willing to trade for Taylor for a 4th rounder (they don't have one of those right now). If the combine is a disaster for a few top QB prospects, the Bills may have a real chance for getting something for Taylor. The long term option is that the Bills will add competition for Jones. Maybe this draft, if that doesn't happen then what Jones does this year will be the final decision on whether they go QB in round 1 of the 2018 draft.
