  1. That and the fact that the Jets won't join the Snyder, Jones, etc. side in the fight for the new CBA. On July 6, the Olympic Committee will choose an olympic site. No stadium plan, no olympics and no olympics, no stadium.
  2. New York Board Rejects NYC Stadium Plan Jun 6, 6:10 PM (ET) By MARC HUMBERT ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York City's bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics suffered a setback Monday when a powerful state board rejected critical public funding for a $2 billion stadium on Manhattan's West side. The state Public Authorities Control Board vote came after Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver came out against the plan for $300 million in public funding for the stadium that would also be home to the New York Jets. The state board could reconsider the issue again later. But without Silver's support, the state funding cannot move forward. "This plan is at best, premature," Silver said, indicating he was willing to continue talking about the issue. Mayor Michael Bloomberg had heavily lobbied Silver in recent days for support of the stadium. "If we don't have a stadium, we cannot get the Olympics," Bloomberg said after Silver's announcement. "I had not been able to persuade him." The mayor said he would talk with members of the U.S. Olympic Committee about how to proceed. Silver said the West Side stadium project and its related commercial development would hamper efforts to redevelop lower Manhattan, which he represents, in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that brought down the World Trade Center towers. "Am I to sell out the community I have fought for?" Silver said at a state Capitol news conference. The speaker renewed his call for officials to consider putting the stadium in Queens. The Democrat's decision was announced less than an hour before the meeting of the Public Authorities Control Board. Silver, Republican Gov. George Pataki and state Senate Republican Majority Leader Joseph Bruno each have a voting representative on the three-member PACB. Its actions must be unanimous. The PACB meeting, which was scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., didn't get underway until almost 5:30 p.m. The delay was caused in part by the presence of more than 100 highly vocal stadium supporters and by continued behind-the-scene talks that dragged on through the afternoon. In the end, the board brought up the plan, but only Pataki's representative voted for it. Representatives of Silver and Bruno abstained. While Pataki has been a stadium backer, Bruno and Silver had remained on the fence. Earlier Monday, Bruno had said he was willing to have the state board approve the stadium funding contingent on the International Olympic Committee approving New York City's bid at its July 6 site selection session in Singapore. He offered that as an amendment at the PACB meeting, but the motion failed to gain a second.
  3. To those who don't like our old helmet, it could be worse, the Broncos helmet from the same time period has the worst, bar none, of any nfl emblem. It looks like a retarded kindergartner's depiction of a horse.
  4. This is hilarious. The Skins seem to be cursed by bad decisions and flat out bad luck. I think the only way they have a chance to win under Snyder is if the CBA doesn't get passed and there is no salary cap. Then he can spend like a drunken sailor ala Steinbrenner. Then, maybe then, they can win.
  5. Boy, it's comforting knowing we drafted two Canes with our first two picks. My favorite Cane incident is still Najeh Davenport deficating in the coed's hamper
  6. You're obviously mistaking me for that Navy guy.
  7. I didn't know who the hell she was before the last week with the media fawning all over her. During the race, the idiot announcer even compared her to Amelia Earhardt. I'm only saying that it is admirable that she didn't get carried away with all the media hype and, to the disappointment of the media, she doesn't seem to be the activist type who wears her gender on her sleeve.
  8. I think Danica's performance at Indy will answer the question, "Is racing a sport?" If she does well, the answer will be no. What other TRUE sport exist that a women can compete and excel against men?
  9. I must have LOST interest before they talked about fat dude. He seems like a fascinating character. I do dig the smoking-hot brunette, although her perpetual expression of concern (see one-dimensional) gets old.
  10. I've lost interest in this lame show. I mean what's the story with the fat dude. I haven't seen anything about his life. Maybe he was visiting some fat farm in Australia or something. Every character is uni-dimensional and what's with the f'ing rebel cowboy guy, he's a walking cliche.
  11. I think they all suck. Just my two cents.
  12. "blew himself" !!!!!?????
  13. He apparently confronted a kicker about some missed kicks that cost them two games. The kicker told him to f off. Later, in the locker room, Ezekiel sent the kicker flying into a sharp object which cut his head requiring 13 stitches. I love this guy!!! Fight with kicker
  14. Kiper can easily recite 40 times, bench presses and other measurable stats, but he cannot attend the combine, have the players in for private workouts or spend the millions of dollars the NFL teams spend on scouting. No NFL teams read his report to decide who to take. He brags that he predicted 75 or 80 % of the first round, but who couldn't? By the time the draft comes around, everybody knows who the top players are.
  15. Yeah, but it's too much fun to be cynical about his self-described qualifications to be a draft guru. I mean, he lists the fact that he has satellite tv and watches 20-25 games per week. I'll bet a lot of people on this board beat that. In his resume, he lists nothing about playing, coaching or scouting for any football team at any level.
  16. Here's Kiper's bio. He's a community college product who watches lots of football on satellite. Pretty impressive. Mel Kiper Jr. ESPN Football Analyst Mel Kiper Jr. has served as an expert analyst for ESPN's annual NFL draft coverage since 1984, providing in-depth information on the nation's most talented college football players. His pre-draft predictions are frequently the most accurate in the business, often as much as 80 percent correct on first-round selections. He also has a Web page (www.espn.go.com/melkiper), linked off of ESPN.com, that launched in 2000. Kiper is also analyst for "College GameDay" on ESPN Radio, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturdays throughout the season. Additionally, he is a frequent contributor to ESPN's award-winning "SportsCenter" during the NFL and college football seasons and provides occasional updates throughout the year. Kiper is president of Kiper Enterprises, which he founded in 1981 while in college. It is responsible for all aspects of a series of annual publications including the "NFL Draft Report" and "Draft Preview." His continuous, yearlong research is aided by an office equipped with satellite dishes allowing him to pick up 20 to 25 college games each week. This adds to his in-depth knowledge gathered from lengthy discussions with coaches, players and team executives. Kiper, born July 25, 1960, attended Essex Community College in Baltimore.
  17. And I suppose he led the ACC in td receptions because of the athleticism of his teammates also?
  18. I second that nomination. I haven't heard a retort like that since Hank the angry, drunken dwarf passed away.
  19. He returned two kicks for td's last year and averaged over 16 yards per return. WTF do you define as consistent?
  20. Whether he will be a productive runner or not is irrelevant. The fact is, he could have been taken in the sixth round!!! Not good value.
  21. I agree. Even first round o-linemen take a couple of seasons to develop. Whereas, Parrish can have an immediate impact on our special teams and his speed can help the offense immediately as a slot receiver.
  22. If we draft two more Canes, their cumulative score will equal Alex Smith's.
  23. What a contrast between WM's attitude and that of Travis Hafner. Yeah, I know that $7m/3 yrs aint peanuts and baseball contracts are guaranteed, yada, yada, but it's refreshing to hear a player express appreciation for playing in a rust belt city, his teammates and not making it all about money. CLEVELAND Apr 13, 2005 — Travis Hafner signed a $7 million, three-year contract with the Indians on Wednesday. Hafner, whose agreement could be worth $11.5 million over four seasons, hit .311 last year with 28 homers and 109 RBIs as the team's designated hitter. Hafner, 27, known as "Pronk," said he liked the financial security of signing a multiyear contract and wanted to remain in Cleveland. "I just love playing here," Hafner said. "It was really, in the end, an easy decision." General manager Mark Shapiro said Hafner is so devoted to his teammates that he wanted his new contract to include incentives based on team performance, but the organization couldn't do that under the league's collective bargaining agreement.
