Did you catch the video of Bean & Pegula when they picked Bishop?  You could see how relieved Bean was that he didn't have to trade up to land the guy.  And Pegula's reaction told me that they had talked to him about how much they wanted Bishop.  And this reminded me of the stress and gamesmanship a good GM like Bean has to do on draft day.  They badly wanted Coleman & Bishop but Bean squeezed everything he could out of the picks and still landed his guys.  Had Bean taken Coleman at 28 we would not have gotten that 3rd round pick from KC and had he feared losing Bishop and had traded our 4th round pick to move up maybe we don't get the running back.  By taking a couple of chances Bean likley landed two additional starters or key subs in addition to landing the 2 players they wanted.

I loved the trade down for the reason of adding draft capital. I’d almost always prefer a trade down than a trade up because I’d like more picks. More chances to draft a gem.
Beane actually tried to trade up in the 2nd to get Bishop but said “thankfully no one was taking my calls.” He got antsy as usual and if a trade up did happen, you’re right, we don’t get Davis.

We’re moving past giving players 1 year contracts and relying more on draft picks, which I also love, but to rely on picks, we’ve got to stock the cupboard. Beane seems to be getting smarter about draft capital, despite the failed Bishop trade up.

  2. Picking up the 5th year option was a no brainer. I can’t remember who I was arguing with, but someone here said they’d gladly pay Rousseau $20M/yr to extend him. I was adamant that at that price you let him walk, unless he proves to be more of a QB disruptor. If he doesn’t show any better than he has thus far, my maximum yearly would be $15M/yr, a shade under Oliver.

He probably went on the Lance Armstrong diet, or he’s full of *****… I’m betting it’s a healthy combination of both.

Maybe some sort of juicing, no doubt. Just looked up the 4.38 video, he dusted whoever he was racing and supposedly ran the time as a 48 year old. It was hand timed. He also raced Tyreek Hill at 44 years old and Hill only beat him by a couple strides, so he’s definitely faster than the 4.63 he posted at the combine.

    Terrell Owens - 6’3 213lbs 4.63 40 yd dash 10.58 Split 30in vertical 10ft Broad

The more I read up on Coleman and the way he plays the game, using his size and elite athleticism to beat defenders, it appears he and the Bills legend could indeed be cut from the same cloth.

Looking at those numbers, quite literally the same exact cloth…

Had no idea Keon was essentially a T.O. clone with better hops until 15 minutes ago when I looked up both of their combine numbers and then I was like “Holy Shnikees, Big Baller Beane did it again!”. Time to stock up on 🍿 🍿 🍿.

Surprised Owens ran a 4.63 at the combine, because he claimed “I can still run a 4.4” when he was in his 40s trying to get back in the league. There’s also a video out there where he runs a 4.38. Not sure how he could get .25 faster than his combine time, that’s a MAJOR difference.

Of course there are outliers. But they're generally the exception and not the rule.

If you're taking a guy who's talented, but still on the board in Round 4 - they're generally the very definition of "Boom or Bust". If the league felt Troy Franklin had little to no potential of not working out, he'd have been taken by now. It's obvious that they do think he's far from a sure thing.

For whatever reason, players always slip through the cracks every year. I wouldn’t even call it an “exception,” it’s more so the “norm.” Whatever those reasons, real contributors can be had in any round and even undrafted. I like Franklin, the league has its reasons for not selecting him thus far, but if he does go on to be a real contributor I wouldn’t be surprised just because he’s picked in the 4th or 5th or wherever. Amon Ra St Brown just signed one of the heftiest WR extensions in history and he was picked in the 4th. We should know by now there are no sure things even if players are called “can’t miss.”

And Troy Franklin is a sure thing to you? The entire NFL doesn't think so.

Not to pick on you personally, but someone makes this claim every single year. Go back and look at the wide receivers selected before Stefon Diggs. Or Davante Adams. Or Tyreek Hill. Or… you get my point. I remember badly wanting the freakishly athletic Arkansas TE Jason Peters and many on this board were clamoring for him too, but he went undrafted. These evaluators - even though they’re equipped with much more information than we have - get things wrong all the time.

Yeah, you’d be hard pressed to find one 6’4” or under D1 college basketball player who could be described as “stiff.” Most high level basketball players can’t run like football/track players, but they’re definitely explosive, have great hand/eye coordination, and great body control. Sounds just like Keon.

  8. I’m down for picking the QB with a howitzer of an arm. Joe Milton I believe is his name. And thankfully no one traded with Beane in the 2nd. I thought the trade downs were outstanding, he just needs to let the draft come to him and stop getting so antsy/impatient.

Hasn't it been pretty evident that the more "armor" they give these guys, the more reckless they play?

I bet if they took helmets off of people entirely, there would be way less people willing to launch themselves head first into other players or lower their head/shoulder to truck a defender.

They’ve been making this argument for years. The thought is that less protection equals less injuries because there’s less recklessness. I don’t follow rugby at all, but it’d be interesting to compare the injury stats since that’s also a contact sport.

Also, this soft outer shell completely hides helmet colors and logos, so they’ll need to be colored according to team. Last thing we want is players (ie Quarterbacks) getting their targets confused.

Give me any draft and team and I’ll tell you what they could have done better. Jefferson wasn’t even a consensus 1st rd pick. It’s like 4 years from now and Mitchell or legette end up being the best wr in this draft

All the mocks I saw had Jefferson in the first. I remember the two main “knocks” against him were:

Is he primarily a slot receiver? And…

He wasn’t even the best receiver on that LSU team. The number one guy comes out next year (Chase).

Jefferson was of course a missed evaluation on all those who selected receiver before him, as well as Beane for not seeing the potential outside his top 3 of Ruggs, Jeudy, and Lamb. He also didn’t see the potential of those two Ole Miss receivers a year earlier.

Like you, I believe there will be guys who ultimately go on to produce more than one or two of the top 3 names in this draft. It’s one of the reasons I’m against trading up.

  11. If the Bills had simply drafted Jefferson instead of traded for Diggs, I believe they’d have at least one SB by now (provided Jefferson stayed as healthy as Diggs).
If they had taken Metcalf or AJ Brown in the 2nd instead of Cody Ford, that’s even more compensation the team could’ve kept to hit on other players.

  12. Right now, no. He’s in the prime of his career, will be 28 next month. I remember the irrelevancy of the drought years very much and the constant piss poor play at QB. I would entertain the idea in about 5 years, but there’d have to be a hot prospect on the board and for that reason I’m sure the team I’d try to trade with would decline it.

He playing catch with his horse faced wife? Cuz it’s certainly not Kelce or Rice

Kelce has a new gig too. He’s host of a show called “Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity.” I went to a couple tapings, Fitzy was on the panel of one, Ochocinco was on another.

Gonna be in Buffalo on Monday. Was the CFLs most outstanding rookie last year. Never played college ball but had a great year in the CFL and a good week of practice at the Shrine Bowl.

Interesting that he’s played for 2 leagues, yet isn’t seen as an UFA, free to sign with anyone. What’s the difference between his situation and someone like Cam Wake?
