  1. I do remember, but that was a different situation where a FG was needed to prevent a loss. Here, we should not have been in a position to lose. Also, it need not be 3 running plays. Only one or 2 runs were needed to wear down the clock. One pass would've been OK.
  2. This is about smart clock management. What about play-action or a naked bootleg? The Bills were in a position to either win the game on sound execution or tie it on poor execution. With 1:30 left, no KC time outs, and 1st and ten from the KC 41 (or whatever), KC should have been given no opportunity to win this game. That is inexcusable for an NFL head coach.
  3. What about clock management. Poor execution = tie; Poor clock management = loss. C'mon - 2 straight pass plays failed, why would a 3rd be a success?
  4. It's a curse when you do everything right and lose. Unfortunately, we didn't do nearly enough right and lost of Gailey's own accord. Having a fan catch a foul ball that otherwise would have given your team a ticket to the World Series - that's a curse, say the Cubs fans.
  5. Not only did Gailey whiff on the jugular, he cut his own throat. There was zero clock management from the one person who is most responsible for that aspect of the game. I wouldn't feel as bad if we ran 3 times and tied, than I do now when we passed 3 times and lost.
  6. It was also obvious that our defense was tiring and not holding back the Chiefs in OT. Heck, if it wasn't for one my 9-iron duck hooks on Succops FG attempt we would have lost sooner. Gailey should have put in the players hands to win the game, and his hands to assure a tie. A tie was nothing more than perhaps one running play.
  7. You're right. The real point is KC should not have gotten the ball back to end the game.
  8. I'm not sure about teh Ravens, but CG definitely handed this game over complete with KC Barbecue Sauce. No head coach worthy of the title would have let that happen.
  9. And we and every other team ran him out because he was pass happy. Buddy Ryan nearly decked him.
  10. Yes, that was a good call, but it means nothing because not calling a run 3 times in a row openned the door for KC to beat us, and they did.
  11. I'd rather lose on physical play than "braintrust" stupidity. That was a Pisarcik class blunder.
  12. Exactly, and just simple clock management. A QB sneak would've caught KC off guard perhaps. Buffalo has put up with too much "braintrust" ineptness from both sports teams.
  13. Agreed - a PeeWee amateur coach would not have made those play calls. One run could have guaranteed a non-loss. Play calling in OT lost this game. If he didn't have to eat his salary, RW should can Gailey outright for that blunderous OT clock management.
  14. Why did Gailey call 3 pass plays with 1:30 left and 3 yards from FRG range? KC had no time outs and there was ample opportunity to win or at least tie and break this d@#$ losing streak. I thought that horrendous play calling left with Jauron. It's not that we lost, but we lost by the coach being stupid. Buffalo fans have put up with enough stupidity. I'm madder than Carl Palladino!
  15. Agreed. Jackson is teh present, Spiller is the future. Lynch does not pick holes well, and often gets tackled for a loss or no gain. He'll have one decent run followed by 4-5 duds. "Beast" mode only lasted one or two plays. Jackson was able to consistently gain yards which is why he beat out Lynch last year. What I couldn't believe Sunday is after Jackson's 11 yard run for a 1st down, they stopped calling his number. Hell, after a run like that you should give him the ball again. What happened to pounding it out. Like you said, it's a good move.
  16. Sounds like my house, except the girls watch Cake Boss, and despise IRT. As for Cake Boss, why watch it if I can't eat it. BTW - I was at your first Bills game. As I recall it was very windy (the cards had a 15 yard punt into the wind). Steve Tasker also caught a TD pass as a slot receiver. Ah...those were the days.
  17. As strange luck would have it, my golf league scheduled its year end golf outing yesterday afternoon, rather than the traditional Saturday event. This is in the NY capital region, so the game was on regular TV. Normally I'd be bummed about missing the game, but what a relief. Instead of wasting a decent afternoon watching the laughingstock of the NFL, I had an enjoyable round of golf which finished at 4:15. Going into the bar I asked about the Bills-Pack, and the collective answer was a snicker and a "you don't wanna know." My wife texts me and warned me not to watch the game off the DVR it was so bad. So thank you golf league entertainment committee, you saved me from the unthinkable. Anyway, I DVR'd the Bills-Pack, Jets-Pats, and Ice Road Truckers. Which is more worthy to watch?
  18. From watching the Bills since 1966, there is no question that success begins along the line of scrimmage. Despite universal hatred for him, OJ Simpson is a resounding example. His first 3 years were a disaster because he had no OL support. He constantly outran blockers on sweeps because he couldn't run that slow or they got beat. Once Lou Saban came back and began acquiring o-lineman (Joe D, Reggie McK, et al), he led the AFC the next year and gained 2003 the next (a feat that may not be repeated yet thru 14 games). I saw the same thing happening again when they drafted Spiller, no line = no production, a wasted pick. And guess what, Fitz won't look great behind this line either. Bill Parcells build teams on the line of scrimmage first. Right now, I'd take one of his bad years.
  19. Here's some names for the mix: TE - Lonnie Johnson, flashes of success, no consistency, lost focus. Classic Lonnie was making a brilliant reception on a fake punt only to have the ball jarred loose by the kick returner. Reason by Lonnie, "I forgot it was 4th down." Hmm - it was PUNT FORMATION K - Fred Steinfort - nicknamed Stonefoot. So many line drive FG attempts he should have been a Striker on the US Soccer team. QB - Vince Ferrogamo - was suppose to be a worthy replacement for the retired Joe Ferguson. Was a disaster, and was replaced by 2 more disasters.
  20. Agreed! Even an amateur fan like me can see that the team that controls the trenches, controls the game. Beside teh trenches, it is the QB that also controls the game. However, many teams have won super bowls or gone deep in the playoffs with good QB's (if not HOF QB's) and solid O-lines and D-lines. Two of the Bills SB losses came at the hands of non-HOF OB's, but solid lines. I've said for over a decade that the Bills need to build the o-line first. Do it with a good, veteran QB, then look for the franchise QB.
  21. Yep, as one poster said, they were Pepsi bottlecaps (before the twist top) wit "Buffalo" written across the middle. Probably the most obvious show of sponsorship ever in the AHL. I still remember one well known player, Brad Park played for the Bisons before being called up to the Rangers, and was later traded to the Bruins.
  22. He most certainly won! He had a penchant for blocking shots (though sometimes slid out of position). It was Shony, Larry Carriere, Tim Horton and later Josh Guevremont that gave the Sabres a solid defensive core in addition to the French Connection to make '73 the first winning season and SC playoff appearance.
  23. But it was a great era! Schoenfeld got into 3 fights that game. Speaking of showing ones age, my first hockey game attended was Buffalo-Pittsburgh. That's the Buffalo Bisons and the Pittsburgh Hornets! The Aud had 10,000 seats, the Pens began NHL play the next year, and Leaf coach Ron Wilson's dad Larry played for the Bisons.
  24. "No Goal" for sure. The most bizzarre aspect of that was how fast the NHL and Bettman rolled out the red carpet and presented the cup as if they had to catch a plane in half an hour. Linde wouldn't address the media until he got an explanation for the goal, and the NHL changed the In the Crease rules that summer.
  25. Absolutely, and for a second act, they could have Jim Schoenfeld beat Johnny Bucyk thru the corner boards like he did in the late-great Aud. But I don't think that would go over well at Fenway.
